Chapter 57 - Chapter 57: The Whisper Beneath the Tower

Deeper Than Before

The rescued witches were secured and left in Sofia and Morgana's remote care nodes.

The twelve Celestial Warriors did not turn back.

They went deeper.

The spiral corridor eventually gave way to an ancient horizontal passage carved from dark crystal-veined stone—far older than the upper academy.

Nero's voice was low.

"…This layer wasn't built with the tower."

Morgana's earlier warning echoed in their minds.

Some parts of the Witch Academy predate recorded history.

Lyra's Phoenix Flame burned softly in her palm.

But now—

It pulsed.

Slow.

Uneasy.

Orion immediately noticed.

"Still feeling it?"

She nodded faintly.

"…Something down there is calling to the flame."

That was not good.

---

Formation Tightens

"Closer formation," Kael ordered quietly.

The group adjusted instantly:

Front line: Kael, Serena

Mid guard: Lyra, Orion, Mia, Rafael

Flank shadows: Seraphina, Zane

Rear guard: Emma, Kai, Sofia, Nero

Perfect unity.

Perfect discipline.

Exactly what the Arcane Trio hated.

They advanced.

Step by step.

---

The Leyline Scar

After several minutes, the corridor widened into a vast underground chamber.

And the moment they entered—

Everyone stopped.

The floor was carved with a massive circular formation.

Not active.

Not glowing.

But scarred.

As if something enormous had once been forcefully removed from the center.

Serena whispered softly,

"…This was an anchor point."

Nero knelt, palm against the stone.

His earth sense pulsed outward—

Then recoiled sharply.

"Something was ripped out of here."

Seraphina's darkness curled uneasily.

"Not removed."

Her eyes narrowed.

"Extracted."

Lyra's chest tightened.

Because the Phoenix Flame inside her core flickered violently in response.

---

The First True Whisper

Then—

It came.

Not sound.

Not exactly.

A voice that brushed the edge of Lyra's consciousness.

Soft.

Amused.

Ancient.

"So this is the little phoenix…"

Lyra froze.

Orion instantly stepped closer.

"Lyra?"

Her breathing hitched.

"…She's here."

Across the chamber—

The shadows began to move.

---

Noctyra's Presence

They did not see her body.

Not yet.

But the darkness along the far wall thickened into a tall, elegant silhouette made of layered void-mist and fractured starlight.

Watching.

Evaluating.

Noctyra.

Finally… directly involved.

Serena's light flared.

Kael's crescent aura sharpened.

Every Celestial Ring pulsed sharply in warning.

The silhouette tilted its head slightly.

"Twelve little stars… guarding one unstable sun-flame."

Orion's voice turned cold.

"Show yourself."

A soft laugh echoed through the chamber.

"Not yet."

The pressure in the room increased slightly—

Not crushing.

Not attacking.

Studying.

---

Target Lock — Lyra

The void-mist shifted.

And very deliberately—

Focused on Lyra.

Her Phoenix Flame reacted instantly.

Flaring too bright—

Then dimming.

Unstable.

Orion grabbed her hand firmly.

"Stay with me."

Her breathing steadied slightly.

But Noctyra had already seen enough.

"Yes…" the whisper purred.

"The fracture is forming exactly on schedule."

Seraphina's eyes flashed.

"You're engineering this."

Another soft laugh.

"Of course."

The void silhouette raised one delicate hand—

And the scarred formation on the floor suddenly ignited.

---

The Trap Awakens

Ancient lines of power surged back to life across the chamber floor.

Not a Domain.

Morgana would later confirm that.

But something older.

Cruder.

More dangerous.

Kael's eyes widened.

"Formation backlash — everyone move!"

Too late.

The circle pulsed once—

And the entire chamber inverted gravity for a split second.

The warriors staggered.

Emma's ice cracked.

Kai's lightning misfired.

Mia's water spiraled wildly.

Lyra's flame—

Flared violently out of rhythm.

She gasped sharply.

And Noctyra's whisper came again.

Closer now.

"Soon, little phoenix…"

"You will burn exactly the way we need."

---

Forced Stabilization

Orion moved instantly.

He pulled Lyra fully against him—

Sun aura expanding in a warm, steady field.

Not explosive.

Not aggressive.

Grounding.

Balancing.

"Flame and Sun," he murmured near her ear.

Her breathing slowly evened out.

The Phoenix Flame steadied—

But the tremor inside her core remained.

Noctyra noticed.

Of course she did.

The silhouette began dissolving back into shadow.

"Continue struggling."

"It makes the second breaking point… so much cleaner."

And then—

She was gone.

---

Silence After the Whisper

The formation dimmed.

The chamber returned to stillness.

But nothing felt safe anymore.

Serena exhaled slowly.

"…She's not testing strength."

Kael finished grimly.

"She's profiling Lyra."

Seraphina's voice was colder than shadow.

"She's designing the kill condition."

Orion's arm remained firmly around Lyra.

Protective.

Unmoving.

Lyra stared at the fading formation lines on the floor.

Her voice was very quiet.

"…I think she already knows how I die."

No one answered.

Because deep down—

They were starting to fear the same thing.
