Chapter 65 - Chapter 65: A Lonely Figure Under the Night Sky!

After leaving, Su Yi sat in the car, looking through the window at the brightly lit and bustling scenes on both sides of the road.

Many past memories surfaced in his mind, frame by frame, filling him with emotion.

"Boss, we've arrived. Should I park the car in the underground garage?"

While Su Yi was deep in thought, the designated driver had already driven the car to the entrance of his residential complex.

Su Yi came back to his senses, about to nod, but the corner of his eye caught a glimpse of Chu Wan at the entrance to the underground garage at the complex gate, holding a puppy.

She stood quietly in the halo-shrouded night, her unseen eyes occasionally gazing at approaching vehicles, seemingly having waited for a long time.

"Wait a moment."

Su Yi told the designated driver to pull over near the entrance of the underground garage.

Then, he opened the door, got out of the car, and walked towards Chu Wan.

Chu Wan sensed the approaching footsteps, and the expression on her face gradually became joyful:

"Dad, you're back!"

"Why didn't you wait at home?"

Su Yi asked, seeing her misunderstanding.

"It's Xiaoyi Ge."

Chu Wan recognized Su Yi's voice and said with a smile,

"My dad said he'd be back soon, so I wanted to wait for him here. Today, my teacher told me some really good news, and I want to tell him right away. Oh, by the way... Xiaoyi Ge, did you just get off work?"

Su Yi replied,

"Not exactly just off work, I just had a meal with a few friends, so I came back a bit late."

"My dad has been working overtime a lot recently too,"

Chu Wan said.

"I thought working would always be this busy."

Hearing Chu Wan's words, Su Yi suddenly remembered the last time he came home late and ran into her in the elevator, and couldn't help but ask,

"Has your dad... been coming home this late recently?"

"It's only been like this recently!"

Chu Wan replied, then paused and added,

"But my dad never tells me about his work, so I'm not very clear, but he's been absent-minded lately. One time... I called him for a long time and he didn't respond, and several times he forgot to add salt when stir-frying."

Chu Wan smiled as she complained to Su Yi, not realizing how late it was.

The wind was gradually turning cooler.

"Xiaoyi Ge, you should go back first, I'll be fine."

After complaining, Chu Wan gave Su Yi a bright smile.

"I'll wait a little longer for my dad."

Su Yi thought that since Chu's father had called earlier, he should be arriving soon.

So, he didn't think much of it.

He simply gave Chu Wan a few instructions, then got back in the car and had the designated driver park it in the garage.

After that, when he finished parking and entered the elevator, intending to go straight home to sleep, for some reason, he suddenly hesitated and returned to where Chu Wan was.

"Looking at this weather, there might be a heavy downpour later,"

Su Yi said.

"There's a McDonald's next to our complex, and you can see vehicles entering and leaving our complex from there. If you don't want to wait at home, why don't you come and sit with me there for a while? I didn't eat much for dinner, and I feel a bit hungry now."

"Okay, I'll go with Xiaoyi Ge."

Chu Wan said with a smile, knowing in her heart that Su Yi was concerned about her.

Su Yi nodded and went with her to the McDonald's next to the complex.

The two sat by the window.

Su Yi ordered a double coke, chicken legs, and a burger, but he didn't eat much himself, just smiled as he watched Chu Wan happily eat there.

"Xiaoyi Ge, do you have a girlfriend?"

As time passed, the two chatted casually.

"No,"

Su Yi replied.

Chu Wan thought for a moment and asked curiously,

"Then what kind of girlfriend are you looking for?"

"Haven't thought about it,"

Su Yi replied.

Before his rebirth, he had no house, no car, and his mother was plagued by illness.

In a big city like Modu, not many girls would look at him, so he remained single.

After his rebirth, he was focused on making money and hadn't considered this question.

"The first condition must be pretty, the second condition must be gentle and virtuous, the third condition must be as knowledgeable as Xiaoyi Ge, the fourth condition..."

Chu Wan counted on her fingers,

"Hmm, there shouldn't be many girls worthy of an excellent man like Xiaoyi Ge."

Su Yi smiled and said,

"Am I that excellent?"

"Yes!"

Chu Wan nodded firmly.

"The teacher said that a clear heart is more important than clear eyes. Although I can't see with my eyes, I can see with my heart. Xiaoyi Ge is a very excellent person."

"You are also very excellent,"

Su Yi said.

"Your teacher is right, in this world, a clear heart is indeed more important than clear eyes. Many people have clear eyes, but their hearts are black, they have no conscience. Perhaps they once had it, but after being 'eaten' by others, they learned to 'eat' the conscience of others."

Chu Wan listened to Su Yi's words, somewhat bewildered and not quite understanding.

Su Yi looked at her seriously listening, and suddenly remembered when he was in junior high and high school, listening to teachers talk about big social principles, and couldn't help but start laughing.

"Xiaoyi Ge, what are you laughing at?"

Chu Wan asked.

Su Yi replied,

"Nothing, just remembering some things I experienced when I was your age."

"Can you tell me about it?"

Chu Wan said,

"My dad usually doesn't talk to me much, and sometimes even when I ask him to tell me things, it's just me asking and him answering."

"Next time,"

Su Yi said.

"It's almost 12 o'clock. Call your dad again."

Chu Wan nodded, took out her phone, and dialed the only number saved on it.

Unfortunately, after a brief series of beeps, the message 'The number you have dialed cannot be reached temporarily' was still heard.

After the prompt repeated a few times, the call automatically disconnected.

By this time, outside the window, the wind was howling, and heavy rain poured down.

"My dad's phone still can't be reached."

Chu Wan was already starting to get anxious.

Su Yi's eyelid twitched, realizing this was abnormal.

So, he took out his phone and called Gao Feng:

"Hey, Gao Feng, I'm sorry to bother you at this hour. Do you know anyone in the traffic police department?"

"No bother at all, we're brothers, don't mention it,"

Gao Feng replied with a smile, then continued,

"Friends in the traffic police, well, I do know a few, since we're all in the same system. What's wrong... did your car get into an accident? You weren't caught drunk driving, were you? If it's drunk driving, I really can't help with that."

Su Yi said,

"What are you thinking? I wouldn't be so foolish as to drunk drive. It's just a friend of mine who called a few hours ago saying he was driving home, but he hasn't arrived after several hours, and now his phone can't be reached.

I'm wondering... if something might have happened. Can you ask a friend on your side to help me check? To see if there have been any major vehicle accidents tonight."

"What's his surname? Do you remember his ID number?"

Gao Feng asked.

Su Yi turned his gaze to Chu Wan, then had her report her father's name and ID number into the microphone.

After that, the two hung up the phone.

Then, about fifteen minutes later, Gao Feng called back.

"Brother, I'm sorry. Your friend passed away in a car accident a few hours ago."

Gao Feng sighed and said,

"The traffic police are recovering his phone's contact list and planning to contact his family."

"What caused the accident?"

Su Yi calmed himself and asked.

Gao Feng replied,

"The preliminary assessment seems to be fatigue driving. No one else was injured, and the vehicle crashed into a roadside fence... For the specifics, have his family go to the traffic police department to find out. I'll send you an address; they're also looking for people, so I've helped them out."

"Okay, thank you!"

Su Yi said, then hung up the phone.

Then, he turned back to look at Chu Wan, sitting quietly, still waiting for her father to return.

Many cruel words suddenly got stuck in his throat.
