"When are you going to sign the pairing agreement forms?" Eden asked as Lucien was making his way down the hall. The urgency in her voice hinted at the importance of this decision. If Lucien delayed further, there was a risk that the next gate, already rumoured to open near the heart of the city, could catch their defences unprepared, endangering thousands of lives.
They were currently in the Mercury building, and Lucien was on his way to training. He paused in his steps, looking down at her as if she'd said something outrageous.
"What?"
"You heard me, Saint-James. It's been weeks since you guys told me you were willing to become one, so what's with the holdup?"
"…We're testing things out right now, getting to know each other before we make such a big commitment."
"Big commitment?" She scoffed. "It's not like it's a forever thing. It's just until you graduate from the Academy."
Lucien's jaw clenched.
