Chapter 99 - Chapter 99 Yes, You Lost

Palmer sat down again, looked at the five questions on the blackboard, and confidently said to Amy, "I'll count to three, then we'll start working on the questions at the same time. Whoever finishes first wins. One…"

"64, 42, 72, 48, 63. Done." Amy turned to the blackboard and calmly announced the five numbers.

Palmer had just finished counting to three, his mouth still open, and he hadn't even started copying the questions onto his paper when Amy had already finished.

The classroom fell silent. The children weren't sure if Amy had calculated correctly, but her speed was far superior to Palmer's. Palmer hadn't even started calculating before Amy had given the answer, so everyone looked at Teacher Luna, wanting to know if Amy's answer was correct.

"You're not just making this up, are you?" Palmer asked hesitantly, looking at Amy.

"I calculated it carefully." Amy said seriously, also looking at Luna.

"64, 42, 72, 48, 63. All correct!" Luna looked at the questions on the blackboard and gave the answers one by one, exactly the same as Amy's. Surprised, she couldn't help but raise her voice a few decibels.

This level of arithmetic wasn't difficult for her, but even she needed to think for a moment to arrive at the answer. Yet Amy had just given the correct answer almost instantly, her speed was astonishing—she was practically a genius!

"Amy is amazing!" Daphne exclaimed, echoing the thoughts of the other children. They had initially thought Palmer was the best, but now it seemed Amy was even more impressive.

"Terrible. I can't play with her anymore. All the good students are weirdos." Ignaz said, shaking his head with a look of horror and regret.

"I lost." Palmer said after a moment of silence, nodding seriously. His father had said that a man should maintain his composure, whether winning or losing, especially towards women.

Although this might be something his father made up to comfort himself because he was often beaten by his mother and dared not fight back, Palmer still felt there was a lot of truth to it.

"Yes, you lost." Amy nodded as well, but without any hint of pride, appearing rather matter of fact.

Of course, this attitude made Palmer feel even more frustrated.

"Amazing!" This was the only thought in the minds of many children looking at Amy. The little girl in tattered clothes had suddenly become incredibly capable, even more capable than Palmer.

"The multiplication table from the Celestial Empire is indeed impressive." Mai Ge smiled, looking at the young boy, who was quite gentlemanly. He looked somewhat familiar, but he couldn't remember where he had seen him before.

Just then, the bell rang, and the children immediately forgot about the incident, some impatiently waiting for Ms. Luna to dismiss them so they could go out and play.

"Alright, class dismissed." Luna said, her mind filled with questions. Without running overtime, she took Amy's hand and led her out of the classroom, looking at Mai Ge. "Mr. Mai Ge, I have some questions I'd like to ask you. If you have time, could we talk in my office?"

"Okay." Mai Ge smiled and nodded; he did have some questions for her anyway.

"Mr. Mai Ge, did you teach Amy math?" Once in the office, Luna gave Amy a piece of candy and let her sit on a small chair to eat, but couldn't resist asking Mai Ge her question.

How exactly did Amy learn to calculate these problems so quickly in such a short time? She had been taught many algorithm formulas before, but because there were too many, she didn't memorize them all, and that level of knowledge was definitely not enough to answer them instantly.

"I taught Little Amy a new multiplication table, and I also changed the algorithm. The calculation process is simpler, and the answer can be obtained directly." Mai Ge didn't hide anything. Firstly, he trusted Luna, and secondly, there was no need to hide such things.

Let the multiplication table spread throughout the world, with everyone memorizing it—just thinking about it is an interesting thing.

The integration of various races is most directly achieved through war, but it also has the most problems. If integration can be promoted through culture, it would certainly be a good thing.

"A completely new algorithm?" Luna's eyes lit up immediately. She had initially thought that Mai Ge had been teaching Amy a lot at home recently.

If the simpler algorithm Mai Ge spoke of, which could directly obtain the answer, really existed, it would be a revolutionary step for the mathematical world. Her hands trembled slightly as she looked at Mai Ge earnestly and asked, "Mr. Mai Ge, is this algorithm you're talking about universal?"

"It should be." Mai Ge nodded. Having promoted algorithms in China for so many years, the issue of universality was not a major concern. However, promoting this in this world wouldn't be realistic with just Luna, a math teacher, involved; it would require the participation of an organization of at least the Gray Temple.

"Teacher Luna, Daddy is really amazing!" Amy, sitting nearby holding the Ugly Duckling, exclaimed, her little face full of pride.

"Mr. Mai Ge, although it may be a bit abrupt, may I take a look at your newly derived algorithm?" Luna looked at Mai Ge earnestly. "If you intend to publish it, perhaps I can help you. My grandfather was one of the officials in charge of education in the Los Empire. Although it's inconvenient to reveal his name, he has always been dedicated to promoting arithmetic. However, the existing algorithms are too complex; few people have the patience to learn them, and even fewer truly master them. Even at Chaos Academy, only about half of the students graduating from Green Sprout Garden each year achieve a passing grade in arithmetic.

If your algorithm is truly simpler and more applicable than the existing ones, I believe he would be happy to contribute to its promotion and ensure your name is forever etched in the history of arithmetic."

Making a name in history is certainly a good thing, but Mai Ge didn't want to be too high profile right now. The name Mai Ge • Alex was probably a thorn in the side of many people in Luo Du, if it was suddenly brought up, many would likely be provoked.

However, Luna's identity surprised him somewhat. He had initially thought she was just a young lady from an ordinary noble family in the Los Empire, but it turned out her grandfather was an official in charge of education.

At the time, Mai Ge • Alex mainly dealt with military personnel, so he didn't know much about civil officials. The surname Fei Er De is now just a vague memory. It seems that at some court banquet, there was an old man with this surname who drank with him. However, judging from his rather bold drinking style, he wonders if he has any connection with Luna.

"Well, I can write the algorithm for Miss Luna to see, but if I need to be credited, I'd like to credit Mai Mi, is that alright?" Mai Ge smiled and nodded. Crediting is the most suitable thing to do for advertising.

It's just that naming such a groundbreaking algorithm and multiplication table after a restaurant makes one wonder what students who memorize the multiplication table everyday will think in the future.

"That can be done as you wish." Luna nodded, but didn't elaborate further. They hadn't even seen the algorithm yet, it was too early to talk about these things.
