How long had they been gone? Didn't he leave the house the previous night?
One of the officers held out a hand to help him to his feet.
"Call an ambulance!" The female police officer yelled when she saw Sarah's condition.
Sarah managed to rise to a sitting position, holding up her palm.
"I'm fine, it's just a little bleed. It's nothing a new bandage can't solve."
Ray looked down at her. Why didn't she want to go to the hospital? What was she so afraid of?
The female officer nodded, her eyes wide with disbelief and confusion. "Very well."
They were helped into the car. The car smelt like sweat, decayed food and lack of maintenance all at once.
Sarah leaned her head on his shoulder all through the ride.
He kept expecting the officers to slide into another lane.
When his house slid into view, his palms suddenly became sweaty.
What if his dead still wasn't there? Could he really be dead?
