Chapter 144 - Chapter 144 Enel: I've Finally Found My People

"You won't attack? Then I'll force you to attack!" Enel sneered, looking at Setsuna and Cavendish who had moved the ship outside the lightning sea. His golden staff gathered light.

"No, don't!" Ace's expression changed drastically, not out of concern for Setsuna and Cavendish, but for Enel.

'If he angered Captain, the fight would end prematurely. I wasn't done yet.'

Enel, however, misunderstood his worry. Seeing Ace so agitated, the lightning at his staff's tip grew even brighter.

"Say goodbye to your companions. This is the price for defying a god..."

Enel laughed wildly, only to be sent flying by a sudden punch.

"Argh!" Enel curled up like a boiled shrimp, kneeling on the clouds. Sweat poured down his face; his whole body convulsed. The intense pain nearly made him black out.

This one punch inflicted almost ten times more damage than all his previous injuries combined.

"How is this possible?" Enel looked up in disbelief to see the man standing calmly within the lightning sea, the raging thunderstorm unable to touch him.

"I knew this would happen," Ace sighed, somewhat impressed.

When he'd taken Chiaki's punch the first time, he'd been out cold for over ten hours.

'This guy wasn't physically strong either, but his durability was impressive."

"What strange power is this?" Enel roared. This was different from the Armament Haki they mentioned. His lightning was annihilated inexplicably even before getting close.

"This is Conqueror's Haki," Setsuna said calmly.

Mastering Conqueror's Haki Infusion meant he could also use Conqueror's Haki for defense.

"More Haki?" Enel inwardly cursed, 'Wasn't I 'dominant' enough? Why didn't he have this power?' (T/N: Haki in Chinese words can also mean domineering.)

"But don't think it's over!" Enel still felt confident. He hadn't used his [Mantra] in the fight with the fire guy.

The moment he finished speaking, Enel was sent flying again.

Ace shook his head, 'This guy was truly stubborn. Couldn't he see the gap between himself and Captain now?'

This time, Enel was thoroughly stunned. It took him a moment to recover. "How? I foresaw your attack!"

Setsuna shook his head slightly. "Your reaction is too slow."

If we're talking foresight, Gaban's Future Sight was far earlier than Enel's predictions.

Of course, Enel's maximum speed might surpass Gaban's. But his reaction speed was too sluggish, utterly unable to handle his own top speed.

Moreover, Devil Fruit abilities needed gradual development. The Goro Goro no Mi's limit might be lightspeed, but Enel's development clearly focused on voltage levels.

Setsuna's words struck Enel like thunder, 'My proud speed was limited by this... mortal flesh?'

"Have I been going the wrong way all these years?"

Seeing he'd shocked him enough, Setsuna made an offer. "Your talent is good. But Skypiea is too small for you. Follow me. I'll show you the vastness of the world."

"You want a God to be your subordinate? Unforgivable!" Rage poured from Enel's eyes.

Setsuna sighed. It seemed he still hadn't been beaten awake.

Just then, Don Slime suddenly spoke up. "Setsuna, Setsuna! Let me handle this."

"You?" Setsuna was surprised.

"I've been a 'god' on quite a few planets. I know best how to break someone like him psychologically," Don Slime chuckled.

"Alright then," Setsuna didn't mind. The food in this world was plentiful. Restoring Appetite Energy shouldn't be hard. So he might as well let Don Slime get some fresh air.

However, Don Slime's opening line made Setsuna want to pull him back immediately.

"I am the King of Gods. As the God of Thunder, bowing to me is only natural."

Cavendish and Ace stared at Setsuna in disbelief, 'The steady Captain actually had such a... chuunibyou side?'

"King of Gods?" Enel laughed, tears streaming. "If you're the King of Gods, then I'm the King of the King of Gods!"

Don Slime was very calm. "Don't believe me? Then attack me with your strongest move. I promise not to defend with Haki."

Enel narrowed his eyes. "You're serious?"

Don Slime held his hands behind his back. "In the name of the God King, I absolve you of the crime of defying the God King!"

Hearing this, Enel actually started to believe a little.

"Let's see if you're a true god or a fake! 200 Million Volts-"

Enel's voice suddenly overlapped, as if a thousand thunders whispered from the clouds simultaneously. All the electric clouds over Skypiea began collapsing towards him. A giant made of pure lightning slowly took shape.

"Amaru!"

Thousands of lightning waterfalls poured from the heavens. A kilometer-wide pillar of thunder connected sky and earth.

Ace was shaken. This truly felt world-ending. Even with his trust in Chiaki, he couldn't help but worry.

But at that moment, Ace and Cavendish's eyes widened. "What is that?!"

In their vision, a demonic phantom suddenly appeared behind Setsuna.

Setsuna and the phantom both opened their mouths wide, devouring all the lightning.

In mere seconds, the sky was blue again, clear as if washed.

Don Slime patted his slightly bulging stomach and let out a burp.

Even with his digestive abilities, eating that much lightning at once was a bit much.

Enel stared, slack-jawed, his eyes nearly popping out.

Don Slime patted his stomach, smiling. "Well? Does this prove I'm the God King?"

Enel's shocked expression gradually faded, replaced by fervor. "Lord God King! I've finally found my people!"

"Good! Very spirited!" Don Slime nodded approvingly, his consciousness returning to the Gourmet Space. "See, Setsuna? I tamed him."

Setsuna's face was expressionless. Thinking that when sailing the Grand Line, other crewmates will shout 'Captain', but Enel will shout 'God King'… It's hard to imagine the scene.

Setsuna's consciousness returned. He earnestly corrected, "Don't call me God King from now on. 'Captain' or 'Leader' is fine."

"Understood, God King Leader."

Setsuna sighed. "I mean, don't ever use the words 'God King' again."

"Huh? Why?" Enel was puzzled, but quickly found an answer himself. "I understand! We haven't returned to the Boundless Blue Seas. We can't let too many know our true identities."

By now, Ace and Cavendish had snapped out of their shock.

Hearing Enel had joined, Ace was excited. Now he'd have plenty of sparring partners.

Cavendish, however, was inwardly frustrated, 'Another Logia? If I don't grasp Armament Haki soon, I'll be at the bottom of the ship's hierarchy.'
