Aurora's Pov
"Bye" i waved goodbye to the doctor as he left
I closed the door and stood still for a while, i was so angry right now. Who does he think he is? Why the hell is he rejecting my help?! I have alot of things on my mind and if he thinks he's going to distract me with his problems then he's so wrong!
"How was the mission?" A dry voice asked
"Ahhh" i jumped in fear and turned "Mirabel please don't scare me like that again!"
"Sorry, i just woke up and I heard someone screaming" she said rubbing her eyes sheepishly
"Hmmm" i just frowned "it went well, we found something"
"Great" she smiled "hope no one got hurt"
"No, but my dad knows you're here"
"What? How? Why did you tell him" she trembled
"I didn't tell him, i don't know how he found out" i said coming closer to her "we need to move you to a new location quickly before he tries something"
"Please do" she said holding her face
"Don't worry nothing will happen to you" i comforted her
"I hope so" she said as she sat on the sofa "they struck again"
"Who?" I asked
"The purple Lagoon"
"Huh? Nothing happened today, there was no attack" i said feeling confused
"Not here in Lagos, in Aba. They took back those captured men"
"Wait how did you know that?!"
"The oracle isn't the only one with eyes in the government, you know" she smirked
"Hmmmm so what do we do now?" I asked "cause it seems like they're out to get everyone, the south African ambassador was found dead in her room today" i said scared
"The purple Lagoon is not a group we can easily defeat, and the sooner we get that weapon the better for us" she said
I was seeing Mirabel in a different angle, this isn't the simple woman i used to know. No, perhaps everyone is wearing a mask and I'm just seeing the real them, just like Aron. I just sighed
"Are you okay?" She scanned my face
"Yeah yeah I'm okay" i lied "we should check what's inside that box, it's our only clue for now"
She nodded
I walked over to cupboard i kept the box in and brought it out. Mirabel's eyes anxiously followed me as i walked closer to her with the box.
"Open it" she licked her lips anxiously
I sat down and dropped the box on the table. I scanned it very well, there was a snake symbol on it and the box looked very old...too old. I cleared the dust away and slowly lifted the rusty lid. Dust flew out of the box and we both covered our nose, my heart was pounding and my hands shook as the dust cleared
"What's inside?" Mirabel leaned closer
I peeped in and just stared at the content inside. There was a document inside and a disc
"Huh?" I looked at Mirabel "this is the weapon??"
"Hmmm, play the disc first" she said indifferently
I obeyed. I grabbed the disc and gently slotted it into my dusty disc player that i rarely used.
My huge AI tv came on and the video started playing. A man who was sitting in front of a desk aopeared on the screen, he was wearing a lab coat that was stained with blood, there were dark bags under his eyes and he looked like hell. He rubbed his hands nervously and looked into the camera
I'm guessing this was some kind of record
"Hello, my name is doctor Sam Obala and if you're watching this video, that means I'm probably dead or in hiding" the man said
I looked at Mirabel and she looked at me. Here goes nothing
"I'm making this video in fear and I'm really hoping it gets to the right person, I've recently discovered something really dark and i pray it doesn't come to Lagos. My associate doctor Gabriel (who I'm starting to fear) and I started studying a group of people with a rare kind of virus that could change everything we know about viruses. This virus in isolation is capable of reproducing and shutting down the immune system of it's host...i can't really explain it cause I have little time. But here's what you need to know, there's a secret group in the Lagos government and they've threatened me to study this virus and isolate it from the host's body. What they plan to do with it, i don't know but all i can say is that...."
"Sam what the hell are you doing?!" A voice suddenly yelled from behind the camera
The man's face fell and started looking pale, a shadow appeared above him, a gun shot echoed from the video and the doctor dropped dead. The camera went dead after that and I just stared in horror at the tv screen
"The weapon's a virus" Mirabel gasped
I just kept mute, being the cry baby i was i suddenly started crying. Mirabel just stared at me
"Are you serious right now?"
"I..."
"Why are you crying?"
"That doctor..."
"Yes what about him?"
"That was my boyfriend's dad" i coughed out
Mirabel just froze
"I didn't recognise him when the video started playing but when that gunshot fired....i suddenly remembered everything. Samuel Obala is my boyfriend's dad, David Obala. He was a... who went missing after a trip to a science convention to UK. We all thought he died or something..." I couldn't stop crying
"Oh dear lord" Mirabel shouted
"Turns out my dad and your son kidnapped him and.... killed him" i swallowed hard
"Aurora I'm so sorry" she held my hands
"It's too late for sorry now" i wiped my tears angrily
I grabbed the document from the box and read the heading
"Property of Samuel Obala Corp. Virus Alpha"
I opened the documents and scanned through the tiny handwritings. I couldn't understand alot of science gibberish in it but I did see something i could understand
"Subject name:Kelvin"
"Who's Kelvin?" I turned towards Mirabel
"I don't know, i only know little"
"Hmmmm, there's a loop hole here" i rubbed my neck "how's the purple Lagoon connected to all these"
"I wish I could help but I only know about the oracle and my son doing dirty science projects for them" Mirabel shrugged
"This is hopeless" i dropped the document and bent my head
"Don't beat yourself up, at least we know the weapon's a virus" Mirabel smiled trying to comfort me
I just kept mute. My phone suddenly started ringing and i quickly picked it up
"Hello"
"Hey Aurora, it's me Michael. Any updates on the box?" He asked
"Oh hey mike, um yes. But I feel really confused, we found a video and some document with the name Kelvin on it"
"That's some progress. Send me the document, i might be able to crack it"
"Okay, I'll snap it and send it to you"
"Okay I'll be waiting..."
"Mike there's no soap in the bathroom" a voice suddenly yelled from the phone
"Wait is that Anna???" I asked
"Um yeah...um she's staying with me for the meantime" he said nervously
A wicked grin creeped up my face "oh i see, well i hope i didn't interrupt your little bubble bath together"
"What?! No it's really nothing, there's nothing going on between us...." He rapped out
"It's that Aurora?! Tell her I said hi!!" Anna stupidly yelled
"I'll call you back" he said frustrated
"No need" i smirked "I'll send you the document, enjoy your little bubble bath with your girlfriend"
"You're misunderstanding..."
I ended the call before he could finish and started laughing. Mirabel just stared at me like i was possessed
"Easy there joker" she said "what's funny?"
"Nothing" i held my tummy still laughing "I'll snap it and send it to him"
I held my phone still shaking from laughter and managed to snap every page of the document, then sent it to Michael
"I'll get some rest now, you do too" Mirabel said and left the room
She really loves sleeping, who could blame her, poor woman hasn't slept in a week or month probably.
I was now alone in the living still looking at the document
"We'll crack this case, i promise David" i smiled at the ring
After replaying the video again, i got tired of looking for more clues and packed everything in the box. I relaxed on the sofa and looked up at the ceiling, some many things were on my mind, My dad, the oracle's hidden weapon, the purple Lagoon, David's dad and this one guy that seems to occupy my mind...Aron
"I don't get why he's so angry about regaining his memory" i muttered to myself and turned to look at his door
He really changed in front of me today, that anger and the way he pushed me. Maybe there was more to Aron than it meets the eyes, what if I was wrong about trusting him?
