Chapter 153 - Ash and the Pact of Divinity!

"Mii~ Hey, human kid… have you ever heard of a 'God-Touched One'?"

Before Ash could even respond, Mew waved its little paws dismissively and huffed.

"Mii~ Who am I kidding, you're just a regular little human boy. How could you possibly know the secrets of the God-Touched?"

Mew sighed dramatically, floating in slow circles.

"Mii~ 'God-Touched One' is an ancient title. In your old human terms, it referred to those who could reach the heavens and commune with divine beings."

"In modern terms, it's kind of like what you now call 'Trainers'—but with a twist. Trainers catch ordinary Pokémon, but a God-Touched One? They form pacts with us Legendary Pokémon."

"But it's not a one-sided thing. The contract—the Divine Pact—is made by us, the Legendary Pokémon. We choose the human, and we decide if the pact is signed."

"And unlike how you ancient humans used to worship us like gods, the relationship is actually equal. Even with a Divine Pact, you can't command us like soldiers. Think of it more like... being chosen as our friend."

"And the pact itself has a lot of mysterious powers—but I won't explain them all now. I doubt your tiny human brain could absorb all of it at once."

Mew's tone turned smug, crossing its tiny arms over its chest like a pompous little prince.

"So what I'm saying is… I've taken a liking to you. I've decided to sign a Divine Pact with you! Aren't you happy? Aren't you thrilled?!"

Ash looked at the floating pink creature in front of him—so cute it looked like a girl, but with the smug arrogance of a bratty boy—and chuckled.

"'God-Touched One'... 'Divine Pact'... You want to form a pact with me because I remind you of some old friend of yours, even though we literally just met? You don't even know my name yet."

"Mii~ And what about it? I'm Mew. I do what I want. I don't need to explain myself to a little human squirt like you."

Ash laughed again.

"Alright, alright, I get it. You've got a big ego."

"But you already said it yourself—this pact doesn't mean I can control or order you around. It's basically just like... adding you as a friend, right? In human society, that's not exactly unheard of."

"Sure, you're a Legendary Pokémon, and that's amazing. But with how tsundere you are, being your friend probably won't be easy."

"So why should I be all giddy about it?"

He smiled lightly, voice calm and teasing.

Ash might be a transmigrator who adored the Pokémon world, but he wasn't going to fawn over a Legendary just because it was rare. Respect, yes. Blind worship, no.

Besides, Ash had a feeling Mew meant no harm. It didn't act like some arrogant god who thought itself above mortals. It just… wanted company.

What Ash didn't know, though, was that his casual, friendly attitude—his lack of groveling—was exactly what made Mew like him even more.

As the mythical guardian of the Tree of Beginning, Mew had existed since the dawn of the world. It was unique. Alone. Worshipped, yes—but never truly befriended.

Especially after it inherited the emotions of Sir Aaron a thousand years ago… that loneliness had only deepened.

Now, to be treated as an equal?

It meant everything.

"Mii~ Whatever! Too late to say no!"

"I've chosen you, and that's that. You don't get a say. Just tell me your name already, and after we sign the pact, you can go hide in a corner and giggle like a schoolgirl."

Mew rolled its eyes and smirked.

"…Alright, alright, you're the boss."

Ash shook his head, laughing softly at how adorable this little Legendary was.

Truth be told, Ash was already smiling on the inside.

He'd just been thinking of how to get close enough to Mew to build rapport—and now, the little guy was offering him a direct line. A pact. A bond. Like a wish come true.

"My name's Ash," he said with a calm grin.

"Mii~ Ash, huh? Got it! Alright, let's begin."

Mew nodded, satisfied.

Then, solemnly, its tone shifted.

"Between illusion and reality… by the laws of the Dreaming Realm, I summon the contract."

"This boy—Ash—stands before me."

"I, Mew, guardian of the World Tree, living archive of all genetic essence, vow upon my body and spirit—"

"Let the Divine Pact be forged!"

The moment those words echoed in the air, both Mew and Ash were suddenly lifted by a mysterious force. But Ash was unaware—because in that instant, his mind and soul were pulled into a dark, lightless space.

Except… it wasn't completely dark.

Ash noticed his body glowed with a soft white light, just like the post-production glow effect from that short film they'd made during camp.

Ahead of him, Mew floated, radiating a vivid pink light—far more dazzling than Ash's own. Like a tiny pink sun.

And around them…

The blackness wasn't empty.

Ash squinted and realized the black space was flowing—rivers of dark currents.

As his eyes adjusted, he gasped.

Those weren't just shadows. They were made of countless Unown—ancient symbols writhing in motion, forming a sea of mystery.

"Unown…"

These Psychic-type entities were first discovered in the Johto region. Though technically classified as Pokémon, the truth about them remained elusive. Were they even living creatures? Did they belong to this world?

The academic world had no answers.

And now Ash was seeing them not in some ancient ruin—but in the sacred space of a Divine Pact.

He began to suspect… maybe the Unown weren't what everyone thought they were.

But there was no time to dwell on it.

Because before him, Mew had begun the ritual.

The Divine Pact… had officially begun.
