Chapter 197 - [198] : Slaying the Devil Hound

"Click, click."

Six extraordinary bullets filled the cylinder. Across from him, the demonic giant hound was just recovering from its daze.

Silas raised the slender-barreled silver revolver and aimed at the hound.

"Bang!"

He pulled the trigger. As the recoil kicked in, a bullet saturated with the pure power of the sun shot out.

This power happened to have a suppressive effect on evil beings like devils.

A golden light bloomed in the hound's eye. Silas had aimed casually, yet the bullet struck squarely in one of its eyes!

"Awooo!"

Intense pain combined with the sun's restraint on evil made the Devil Hound let out a shrill, agonized howl.

Pure golden radiance burst across its face.

After its demonic transformation, its body had become incredibly tough. If the shot had hit its body, the result would probably have been like Klein's earlier attempt, with mediocre effect.

But because the extraordinary bullet struck precisely in its vulnerable eye, the damage was amplified enormously!

When did Silas get so good with a gun?

Behind him, Klein stood with arms crossed, wondering in confusion.

He still remembered when they were in Tingen, the two of them had gone to the shooting range together.

Silas's hit rate back then had been pretty pathetic.

Meanwhile, the Devil Hound struggled violently, its massive body slamming against the alley walls with heavy "thud, thud" sounds.

"Bang!"

Silas fired again, this time aiming for the Devil Hound's other eye. However, this shot was slightly off, hitting the hound's brow bone instead.

The bullet's impact knocked its head backward, black fur flying amid pale blue flames.

"Boom!"

The hound maintained its tilted-back posture.

Suddenly, a large mass of crimson magma mixed with ghostly blue flames surged from its mouth.

The flames and magma rapidly took shape, forming into a massive longsword that it gripped between its sharp teeth.

"Swoosh!"

The Devil Hound swung its head, and the flaming sword swept horizontally through the alley.

Ghostly blue flames instantly filled the entire passage. The walls on both sides melted under the fire, leaving deep scorched marks.

Silas's body was caught in the blast, his entire form bathed in the ghostly blue flames.

The fire blazed fiercely, burning his body until nothing remained.

Seeing this with its one remaining eye, the Devil Hound showed no sign of satisfaction. Instead, gripping its sword, it suddenly twisted its body violently.

Sure enough, within the flames surrounding it, Silas's figure appeared once more. Only this time the Devil Hound was prepared, he couldn't mount its back.

Not only that, the Devil Hound's magma greatsword was already swinging toward him again.

"Boom!"

Silas activated his Pyromaniac and Faceless abilities, instantly leaping beyond the sword's attack range.

This is getting tricky.

He frowned slightly.

Devils had strong damage resistance and extremely powerful attack methods.

To defeat one, he'd need to use powerful weapons to crush its tough body, or strike directly at its spirit.

"Swoosh!"

Just as Silas was considering what method to use, a clear and pure, warm light descended from above, enveloping the filthy and evil Devil Hound.

The golden radiance was brilliant and sacred, bringing purification and suppression to the Devil Hound.

"Awooo..."

Bathed in light, the Devil Hound was in agony.

Its evil goat horns gradually retracted, its bat-like membrane wings rotted and developed large holes, even the ghostly blue flames dimmed.

A spell from the Sun domain: "Summon Holy Light"!

"Seize the opportunity!"

An aged voice rang out from somewhere unknown.

"Pierce!"

Silas glanced up, confirming the direction of the voice.

Then he turned his gaze back to the Devil Hound, his eyes flashing with brilliance as he unleashed the Interrogator ability "Psychic Piercing" once more!

Already tortured by the sunlight, the Devil Hound suffered even more.

Its horns and bat wings began to deform and twist, its pitch-black fur writhed and burned, as if tilting toward the edge of losing control!

"Die!"

Silas showed no mercy, continuing his mental assault on the Devil Hound. Profane and corrupt sounds struck directly at its soul.

The Devil Hound howled madly, blood spraying from its ears and nostrils, its condition growing increasingly feeble.

"Click, click."

At the same time, Silas was also adjusting the revolver's cylinder, replacing the "Sun Bullets" with "Power Bullets."

"Boom!"

Amid flames, he appeared atop the Devil Hound's head. This time, the creature couldn't shake him off.

He clamped firmly onto its neck, then pressed the revolver against the back of its skull.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

Three extraordinary bullets from the God of Combat domain, carrying tremendous destructive force, poured out and hammered into the back of the Devil Hound's head!

The first shot split the skin.

The second shot tore through muscle.

The third shot shattered bone!

"Grrrh..."

The Devil Hound struggled desperately, but the mental assault made it difficult to rise.

It could only rely on its powerful physical body to resist. After three shots, its brain still wasn't destroyed.

In just a few more seconds, it would recover slightly from its weakened state and shake Silas off.

Unfortunately for it, it was facing a Shepherd.

Silas reached out and pressed his hand against the exposed flesh and blood.

"Praise the Lord, offer unto Him the blooming rose."

He said softly, using Blood Magic with full force!

"Splurt!"

"Awooo..."

Crimson color burst through the Devil Hound's massive black body, blooming wildly.

The Devil Hound finally let out a desperate wail. Its upper body struggled to rise, held on for a few seconds, then crashed heavily to the ground.

The Devil Hound was successfully slain.

"Come here, let me look at your arm."

Silas jumped down from the hound's body and spoke to Klein in the alley. The latter walked over, cradling his arm. Silas placed his palm on the wound and quickly healed it.

"A lucid Shepherd? Now that's truly rare."

The aged voice came from the shadows. An elderly man wearing robes and a mask slowly emerged, looking at Silas as he spoke.

On his chest was pinned a peculiar brooch. His voice carried not just surprise, but also a scholar's curiosity.

"Mr. Eye of Wisdom?"

Klein, still enduring pain as he received treatment, saw their helper and exclaimed in surprise.

A moment later, he suddenly realized and reached toward his own face.

Right now they weren't wearing masks!

"Please rest assured, I mean no harm."

The old man removed his mask, revealing his true face. He was a middle-aged to elderly gentleman with graying temples and quite refined bearing.

"Mr. Stanton?"

Klein was even more shocked. He hadn't expected that the Eye of Wisdom was actually a fellow detective he knew!

"I didn't expect we'd meet here either, Mr. Moriarty."

The famous detective Isengard Stanton smiled slightly and shrugged his shoulders.

On the other side, seeing that Isengard meant no harm, Silas stopped paying him attention and instead walked back to the Devil Hound's corpse.

He needed to try grazing this devil.
