Chapter 1 - Foggy night

On the egde of a hospital rooftop sat a figure with a bleak expression.

The thick white fog around them made it impossible to recognize the time of day. The street bellow busseled with movement and laugher, but only blurry lights could be seen because of the flowing fog.

The sat there with their legs dangling over the egde, and their cold eyes gazing down with an empty expression.

His blue eyes were as cold as an icy lake, his skin as pale as a corpse, he looked severely malnourished. Together with the low lighting and the fog, he looked like a corpse from a scary story.

They looked deep in thought, but their emotionless face didn't say anything more.

But after a while his thoughts were interupted by an ethereal voice that sounded around them, as if the fog itself asked, "Young man, what are you doing here at this hour?".

The man turned his head to find the source of the voice, but there was nothing but the white fog behind him. A look of confusion overcame his face as he struggled to understand where the voice came from.

When he was about to turn around to continue thinking. The fog behind them parted, leaving only a hazy figure made of flowing white fog.

The figure took a few steps towards the blue eyed man. Each step the hazy figure took, the less hazy and became closer to a man it became.

The man made of white fog stood right beside the blue eyed man, and looked down to see the street, "That's quite the drop there young man".

"Who are you?" the blue eyed man asked while not quite believing what he was seeing.

The foggy man answered while not looking up from the street "I am simply a person who wishes to hear your story-" the foggy man looked up into the mans blue eyes "-and possibly give you a chance."

A hopeless sigh escaped the blue eyed mans mouth, "I don't think my story is so interesting as to search for it here".

The foggy man answered mockingly "I don't think you are in much of a rush, and you won't even want to listen to what I have to offer? That's not too kind of you, you know young man".

The blue eyed man thought for a moment before recounting his life, but it felt like a sumary, "My name's Eric. I've lived in the hospital nearly my entire life because of a very niche sickness," a sad smile crept onto Eric's face "but the worst thing is that I don't know how long I have to live. I don't know if it's worth it to go to collage or if I'll die before that"

"So I've been feeling stuck for some time, and this happens to be a great thinking spot" silent tears rolled down Eric's face.

The foggy man looked up at Eric, a strange silver grin appeared on their face "Then my offer might interest you".

Then the man made of flowing white fog took a step forwards, over the buildings egde, but he didn't fall, he simply floated there, step after step he didn't fall.

The foggy man turned towards Eric a said with a calm voice "I am a god that wishes to give you a second chance in my home world."

Before Eric could even process the fact that the foggy man was floating or what he just said, the man opposite him snapped his blurry fingers and hundreds of glass like fragments reflecting figures that weren't there appeared.

These fragments looked like stars on a foggy night.

Each glass fragment reflected a person, many had expressions of fear and sadness, with their bodies being partaly destroied, but a part of them had expressions of calm and peace.

"These are people that died not long ago in my home world, and now you have a opportunity to take their lives and start anew" the foggy man explained "It's up to you to choose your next life".

Eric sat there confused for a good moment before returning to reality and asking "What if I don't want a second chance?" trying to shoo the foggy man away.

"Don't you feel like you deserved a better life? A better life then living in a hospital and having a 50/50 if you'll see next year?" mockingly answered the foggy man.

Eric looked from reflection to reflection, each face he saw made him more and more confused. After a few moments in thought, he gave an answer "I would like to be a doctor" but after a moment he added "or at least help sick people".

The foggy mans smile didn't waver as he snapped his fingers once more and a big part of the glass fragments disappeared and some changed the face they reflected.

"Anything else?" the foggy man said as he looked at the glass fragments that remained.

Eric answered quickly this time "No family" he answered in a straight forward way, an expresion of regret and sadness overcame his face for a moment before returning back to a cold one.

Another snap sounded in the fog making many more fragments disapear, leaving only a handfull. These fragments floated right up to Eric, close enough for him to reach for them.

"Most of these people don't have a family, but these's a few that have a family very far away. So you don't need to worry about meeting any of them" explained the foggy man.

Eric looked over the remaining options, his gaze looking from a boy barely in his teenage years crying blood, to a girl with half her face crushed because of an unknown source.

But his gaze locked on a man sitting an a train. The man was quite young, looking like someone who could be Erics classmate. He had blonde hair and deep blue eyes. He sat there next to the window with a peaceful expresion.

Eric would've never guess that the man he was looking at was dead.

Eric was about to reach out to grab the glass piece floating before him but a sudden question popped into his mind, that gave him doubt.

"Why are you giving me this chance for a new life?" Eric asked.

The foggy man looked at him with what looked like an confused expresion before answering "As I said, I am a god, and I want to use your body to give a second chance to one of my priests to spread my faith in this world".

After a pause he added "It's easy to bring someone out of here, but extreamly hard to bring someone into your world, and theres many rules and limitations when doing so. So that's the reason i'm trading for your body".

Then with a silver grin the foggy man extended his hand towards the glass fragment Eric was previewsly eyeing, as if inviting him to take it.

Eric didn't refuse and grabed the glass fragment with all his might.

The glass piece was incredably cold and etherial. It felt as if he was holding a half real ice cube, one that would melt and disapear at any moment.

A wave of coldness and strange whispers overcame him, the fog around him stired. Closing in on him like a pack of hungry wolfs.

The fog started seeping into his body through his cold blue eyes and his mouth, making him feel like he was drowning in a cold lake.

But before he himself became etherial he heard the foggy man say one last thing "-understand, embody and induce-".

Before he could ask or understand the meaning of these words he disapered from the rooftop, leaving nothing behind.

While the foggy man became much more real, before disolving with the suraunding fog and disapearing too.
