Chapter 253: Eradication by Extreme Light, The Shattering of the Divine Giant
Hum—!!!
A scalp-numbing hum instantly echoed throughout Marineford. It wasn't the roar of an explosion or the crackle of Haki clashing, but a weird, eerie sound as if space itself were trembling and mourning.
Between heaven and earth, all color was suddenly drained away. Only one light remained—a pure, blinding, sickly white pillar of light! It erupted from the cubic barrier in Kizaru's hands. There was no travel time, no trajectory. Fast! Too fast! It was so fast that even Observation Haki could only catch a faint afterimage!
This was the absolute limit of light's speed. Combined with the terrifying characteristic of Dust Release to decompose all matter, the two had merged to create the most illogical attack in the world!
"This is..." Golden Lion Shiki, who was controlling the Perfect Susanoo and preparing to risk his life against Garp, felt his pupils shrink to the size of pinpricks. A chill of death surged from his spine straight to his skull!
He was all too familiar with this aura! In that damned Dungeon, this yellow monkey had used this very move against Garp! A Kekkei Tota that could reduce any object to a molecular state! Except this time, the target was him.
"Borsalino!!!" Shiki let out a shrill roar. He tried to dodge, tried to use the massive Susanoo to defend, but it was all too late. The speed of light could not be evaded. The moment his retinas received the light, the attack had already landed!
Sizzle—!
There was no resistance. There was no thunderous sound of impact. The sickly white pillar of light was like a red-hot knife cutting through butter. Effortlessly and without a hitch, it pierced right through the hundreds-of-meters-tall golden giant that boasted an "Absolute Defense!"
Silence. A deathly silence. The entire battlefield seemed to have been paused. Everyone stared with wide eyes and open mouths, gawking at the scene in the sky.
The divine golden giant froze mid-air. The chakra blade in its hand, capable of cleaving space, was less than ten meters from Garp's head. But it could no longer descend an inch. Because at its waist, a clean, smooth cut had appeared, still emitting tiny sparks of fluorescent light.
The next second—Rumble!!!
The Susanoo's massive upper body slid slowly along the cut, like a mountain collapsing! Countless golden chakra fragments turned into a shower of light, fluttering down. It was breathtakingly beautiful, yet terrifyingly suffocating!
"AAAAHHHHH!!!" As the Susanoo shattered, Shiki, located within the crystal in the giant's forehead, let out a scream of extreme agony.
The sight of the golden Susanoo disintegrating in mid-air was so shocking that everyone forgot to breathe. The previously invincible divine giant, which seemed ready to split Marineford in two, was now like a sandcastle kicked over by a child.
Rumble!!!
the massive upper torso slammed into the ice, kicking up a storm of shards and dust. The chakra blade dissolved into golden specks of light the moment it hit the ground.
"Borsalino!!!" Shiki's eyes were bloodshot, and two lines of bloody tears flowed from his eerie Mangekyo Sharingan. He stared fixedly at the yellow figure hovering high in the sky. "You dare ambush a senior like me!"
"Oh my why are you shouting so loudly?" Kizaru kept his hands in his pockets, his Justice cape fluttering in the gale. He tilted his head, his gaze behind the tinted glasses carrying a hint of mockery and coldness. "Senior Shiki~ back in the Dungeon, didn't you say you wanted to show me the power of the Uchiha?"
Silence. Absolute silence. The once-boisterous Marineford battlefield, filled with roars and killing intent, was now as if all sound had been sucked away by a mysterious force. Everyone was frozen—from the Marines holding their blades to the Flying Pirates who had been cheering from the floating islands moments ago. Even Fleet Admiral Sengoku, usually calm and composed, stared blankly at the half-severed golden giant on the ice.
The power of a god, which just minutes ago had tanked Garp's iron fists and nearly cleaved the base in two... was just... gone? This visual impact was arguably more shocking than Garp shattering space! After all, Garp's feat was pure power—a violent aesthetic of flesh and blood. While terrifying, people could understand it as the result of training the human body to its limit. But what was this?
"Hey... you've got to be kidding me..." A Marine Rear Admiral dropped his sword with a clang. His eyes were vacant, his lips trembling uncontrollably. "What was that? Was that Admiral Kizaru's laser?"
Akainu stared fixedly at Kizaru. As a user of the Logia Mag-Mag Fruit, he had always taken pride in possessing the highest offensive power in the Marines. Magma—an extreme power capable of burning and swallowing all things. He had once believed that, aside from a few top-tier Haki masters, nothing in this world could stop his Dark Hound.
But now, looking at that white pillar of light that could instantly decompose even a Susanoo, Akainu's world-view collapsed. That attack... no wind-up, no sound, and a speed so fast that even Observation Haki could barely track it. Most importantly, it wasn't physical destruction. It was eradication at the microscopic level!
If that strike had hit him... Akainu instinctively touched his arm. A chill surged into his heart. Even as a Logia, even if he could elementalize—would it matter against a power that decomposed matter? Magma was still matter! It would still be decomposed into atoms!
"Dammit..." Akainu gritted his teeth, his fists clenching until they cracked. An unprecedented sense of defeat made him nearly grind his teeth to dust. He had lost. Completely. He hadn't just lost to Shiki, a remnant of the old era, but in terms of power levels, he had been left far behind by Kizaru—the man he had always viewed as "lazy and slack."
Is this the power of the Dungeon... Akainu looked up. His gaze crossed the battlefield toward the distant East. Toward Foosha Village. Originally, he had been ten thousand percent against the absurd order to move the headquarters. In his view, it was a disgrace to the Marines and a betrayal of Justice. But now, looking at Kizaru hovering like a deity and Garp grumbling as he walked over after shattering space... the fire of anger in Akainu's eyes gradually went out.
