Chapter 38 - Fool

"You are lying." My hands trembled vigorously as I wrote this. Her expressions changed, her lips twisted into a slow, unsettling smirk. My heart sank, as if I had been called a stupid, a fool.

I immediately turned to leave. Their voices tried to stop me from behind.

"Wait, Duchess. Please don't go. Please release us. We have repented enough, please..."

"If someone had begged you the same way, would you let them go?"

As they read this line their begging stopped. Eyes dropped, lips pressed together, hesitating to answer. I wouldn't free them, no matter how much they begged. Why should people who tried to do something so heinous to someone be freed? They should be jailed for their whole life.

As I was getting out of the underground basement my breathing became heavier. Each step felt like a war against my own body. I broke into a cold sweat; everything that I heard from them, especially from the young maid, pierced my heart nonstop.
