Chapter 179 - The Red Comet

Inside the backpack, Fletchinder noticed that the Valstrax was about to hatch.

It hurriedly drilled its way out of the bag.

"Fletch!"

Flapping its wings, Fletchinder called out to Bai Chen.

Everyone's attention was immediately drawn to the Fletchinder hovering in the air.

Indeedee quickly removed the backpack from her shoulders.

Bai Chen was genuinely surprised.

By his estimation, Valstrax should have needed at least another ten days to hatch. He hadn't expected it to emerge so soon—especially after Fletchinder had only just started helping with incubation.

He walked over and looked inside the bag.

The eggshell had already been broken open.

A pair of crimson-red eyes curiously surveyed the surroundings from within.

Ash and the others crowded over from behind.

Ash asked in amazement,

"What kind of Pokémon is this?"

Bai Chen didn't answer immediately.

Instead, he carefully lifted Valstrax out of the backpack, raising the nearly one-meter-long hatchling into the air.

Silver scales.

A streamlined body.

A pair of silver wings.

Unlike ordinary Elder Dragons, Valstrax 's wings had no membranes. On the back of its wing-legs were six exhaust vents. When flying at high speed, it changed direction by adjusting the jet output from those vents.

The wing-legs themselves were composed of extremely tough muscles and ligaments. When needed, the wings could even fold into spear-like forms for forward thrusting attacks.

Clemont pushed up his glasses in shock.

"What an incredible Pokémon…"

Serena pulled out her Pokédex to scan it, but unsurprisingly, nothing came up—Bai Chen had never uploaded data on Valstrax.

Just as Bonnie stepped forward to get a closer look—

Valstrax suddenly took a deep breath.

The surrounding air rushed violently into its body.

Its silver chest began to glow with crimson dragon energy.

Then, like an explosive sneeze, dragon energy burst from behind its head and from the vents in its wing-legs.

A violent shockwave erupted.

Everyone nearby was blown backward.

Bonnie rolled several times across the ground.

Serena, Ash, and the others were forced to retreat several steps.

They stared in disbelief at the scorched grass beneath Bai Chen.

"This kind of power… right after birth?"

"What kind of monster is that?!"

"Hahaha!"

Bai Chen suddenly laughed loudly—his voice filled with relief and joy.

"Excellent! Full of energy!"

"Ha-tch!"

Valstrax snorted loudly, clearly still unaccustomed to producing dragon energy for the first time.

"Welcome to the team," Bai Chen said with a smile.

Valstrax stretched its head forward and affectionately rubbed its silver head against Bai Chen's cheek.

Back when it was still an egg, Bai Chen had already formed a bond with it using the Bond Stone and granted it the standard core skills reserved for main partners.

In the distance, Nergigante, who had been resting atop a tree, sensed Valstrax's birth.

She flew over and landed steadily on Bai Chen's shoulder, leaning forward to examine the dragon they had gone through so much trouble to obtain.

But in the next instant—

Valstrax suddenly roared at Nergigante, a threatening growl rumbling deep in its throat.

It was a territorial warning.

Nergigante had originally wanted to greet the newborn properly, but being inexplicably roared at instantly soured her mood.

She lunged forward, slamming Valstrax to the ground and pinning it firmly beneath her.

Spreading her wings wide, she asserted her dominance.

No matter how Valstrax struggled, it stood no chance against Nergigante in her current state.

Before long, the hatchling let out a pitiful whimper of surrender.

Bonnie rushed forward.

"You can't fight!"

But Clemont quickly stopped her.

"This isn't fighting."

He could tell—this was simply how Bai Chen's team established hierarchy.

In many teams, Pokémon were equals, with no strict command structure.

But Bai Chen's team was different.

Aside from the logistics-focused Indeedee and Tinkatuff, every other member possessed Elder Dragon–level or greater power. Each had the pride and confidence to match.

Without someone capable of suppressing everyone else, serious problems would eventually arise.

At present, Nergigante clearly fills the role of leader.

Her strength and potential were more than enough to keep the rest in line.

Once Valstrax had fully submitted, Nergigante finally released it.

The newborn dragon quickly retreated to Bai Chen's feet, much quieter than before.

Bai Chen tapped Valstrax 's head lightly with a Monster Ball, successfully completing the capture.

When he released it again, the hatchling quickly regained its energy.

It ran circles around Bai Chen, curious about everything.

At that moment, Bai Chen opened Valstrax 's status panel.

Name:Valstrax

Species: Elder Dragon

Type: Flying / Dragon

Rarity: 8

Level: 20 (118 / 3363)

Trait:Red Comet —

During battle, the faster its speed, the stronger the dragon energy within its body becomes.

Skills:

Elder Dragon Blood (Rarity 7) — Beginner (32 / 700)

Ancient Elder Dragons rely on vast, enduring vitality. Manifested as overwhelmingly high life force—commonly known as extreme durability.

Crimson Dragon Energy Core (Rarity 8) — Beginner (2 / 800)

Absorbs massive amounts of air, combines it with dragon energy via the Dragon Energy Core, producing higher-risk dragon energy and compressing it into internal air sacs.

Ultra · Comet Force (Rarity 8) — Beginner (2 / 700)

Greatly increases physical strength, defense, and heat resistance.

Feel the power of the comet.

Dragon Energy Shot (Rarity 7) — Beginner (1 / 700)

Fires dragon energy shots from wing-leg exhaust vents. The stronger the internal dragon energy, the greater the power.

Ultimate Aura Field (Rarity 8) — Beginner (1 / 700)

Envelops the body in a crimson aura. Body size enhancement varies by constitution.

Moderately boosts all stats; the highest stat gains an additional boost.

High chance to inflict Intimidation, reducing enemy aggression.

Note: Proficiency increases only by defeating opponents.

Miniaturization (Rarity 2) — Beginner (1 / 200)

Shrinks body size, increasing evasion.

While Valstrax was still an egg, Bai Chen had already transferred Nergigante's power-type skills, along with Miniaturization and Ultimate Aura Field.

As a native Elder Dragon, Valstrax started at Level 20 from birth.

Looking at its trait, Bai Chen immediately finalized its future training direction:

Increase flight speed and dragon-energy density.

Nearby, Valstrax encountered Cosmog.

It circled Cosmog curiously, trying to figure out what this soft, floating thing was.

Behind them, Ash—holding Noibat—asked Bai Chen,

"Mr. Bai, what kind of Pokémon is that?"

Bai Chen called Valstrax over and held him in his arms.

"He's called Valstrax. He's also from another world. As for classification… You can think of him as a Legendary Pokémon."

"Legendary Pokémon?!"

The four exclaimed in unison.

They hadn't expected to witness the birth of a Legendary Pokémon firsthand.

Bai Chen, however, felt they were overreacting.

In the Pokémon world, Valstrax was roughly equivalent to a secondary Legendary, on the level of Moltres or Articuno.

The truly terrifying one was Cosmog—the primary Legendary Bai Chen casually used as a taxi.

And Bai Chen was certain Cosmog hadn't even reached its final form yet. Once it evolved, its skill set would likely undergo a complete transformation.

Ash's eyes shone with excitement.

"Mr. Bai, once Valstrax grows up… can it battle my Pokémon?"

"Of course," Bai Chen replied.

"Just be warned—its growth rate is fast. It might turn into a one-sided beatdown."

"Then we'll train even harder!" Ash declared.

"Then I'll look forward to it."

After this journey, Bai Chen didn't know when he'd see Ash again.

Perhaps by then, Valstrax would already be an Elder Dragon capable of summoning calamities.

Bai Chen had already structured his team carefully.

Main Team and Reserve Team.

In the early stages, focusing resources on a few individuals was far more efficient than spreading them evenly.

The Main Team currently consisted of five members:

Nergigante

Zinogre

Valstrax

Cosmog

Velkhana (soon to hatch)

The Main Team would expand in the future based on elemental balance and strategic importance.

Bai Chen intended to pour all resources into them.

They would represent the absolute peak of his forces—his true trump cards.

The Reserve Team currently had only one Elder Dragon: Kirin.

Early on, Bai Chen wouldn't heavily invest in the Reserve Team, but he would ensure they never lagged too far behind.

As for Gravios, Indeedee, and Tinkatuff—

Gravios, due to his unique role and future as a super-massive Elder Dragon, was placed into a special category: the Deterrence Group.

A nuclear deterrent.

The Main Team needed to fight everywhere, under all conditions.

Gravios would only grow larger over time and were unsuitable for cities or confined environments.

When Gravios stepped onto the battlefield, it would mean only one thing—

Bai Chen intended to annihilate everything.

As for Indeedee and Tinkatuff, as logistics support, their status was equivalent to Bai Chen himself.

Steel-hard supports, ever-changing carries.

The phrase suited them perfectly.

After briefly introducing Valstrax, Bai Chen immediately took it aside for special training.

"Do you know how to fly yet?" Bai Chen asked.

Valstrax recalled how Nergigante flew and tentatively flapped its membrane-less wings.

As expected.

This confirmed that Elder Dragons from the Monster Hunter world lacked innate flight knowledge.

"You won't get airborne like that," Bai Chen said.

He took hold of Valstrax's wing-legs, recalling how the adult Valstrax he once encountered flew.

Adjusting its posture, he pointed to the exhaust vents.

"You know how to generate dragon energy, right? Like when you sneezed earlier. Take a deep breath, then release all that dragon energy through these vents."

Bai Chen gently patted its head.

Using Super Perception, he had already examined its body.

Valstrax possessed numerous internal air sacs—within its chest, wings, and even its bones.

One deep breath was enough to sustain prolonged flight.

Valstrax inhaled deeply.

A vortex formed in the air as it sucked in a massive volume of atmosphere.

Inside its body, the Crimson Dragon Energy Core activated, converting air into dragon energy and storing it within the air sacs.

Because of low proficiency and inexperience, it took two to three minutes to fully fill them.

"Now—release it," Bai Chen instructed.

Valstrax obeyed.

Crimson dragon energy blasted from the vents, shrieking as it tore through the air.

Its body was pushed forward, sliding across the ground—but it still hadn't lifted off.

"Constrict the vents!" Bai Chen shouted.

Valstrax reacted instantly.

The muscles around the vents tightened, narrowing the outlets and drastically increasing output velocity.

BOOM.

The sudden thrust launched Valstrax into the air.

However, lacking experience, it couldn't steer and slammed straight into a distant fruit tree, snapping it in half.

Dazed, it stood up and shook its head.

Fortunately, its body was tough enough to avoid injury.

In the distance, everyone stared in shock.

So fast—like a fighter jet.

Bai Chen walked over.

"Getting airborne is half the battle. In the air, adjust vent direction to steer."

Time passed.

In just two hours, Valstrax awakened its bloodline talent.

It was now freely soaring through the sky.

Bai Chen left it flying and walked over to Ash.

While Valstrax trained, Ash had been helping Noibat practice flying.

The moment Bai Chen approached, Noibat burst into loud crying, its ultrasonic wails wreaking havoc on Bai Chen's Super Perception.

"Still can't fly?" Bai Chen asked helplessly.

Normally, Flying-type Pokémon could fly shortly after hatching.

But this Noibat had zero talent in that regard.

Ash remained upbeat.

"It can glide already! As long as it keeps trying, it'll get there!"

"I can help—" Bai Chen began.

But before Ash could respond—

A dragon's roar echoed overhead.

Bai Chen looked up.

Valstrax was harassing a Starly mid-air—more teasing than fighting.

Its expression was downright mischievous.

Moments later, Staravia and Staraptor rushed in from the distance.

Bai Chen quickly scanned Staraptor's level.

Level 40.

If it attacked, the newborn Valstrax would definitely be injured.

Before Bai Chen could issue a command, Nergigante acted.

She canceled Miniaturization, surged into the air, and positioned herself between Valstrax and the incoming birds.

Her aura flared.

Staraptor and Staravia hesitated, unwilling to advance.

Just as Bai Chen assumed these were wild Pokémon—

A teenage boy burst out of the forest.

Looking nervous, he immediately recalled Starly into its Poké Ball.

Valstrax, losing its "toy," glared down angrily.

Dragon energy flared from its vents as it dove toward the boy, intending to attack.

Just before impact—

Bai Chen intervened.

Telekinesis seized Valstrax mid-air, freezing it in place.

He pulled it back.

"Indeedee!"

Indeedee rushed over, furious—like a mother catching a child misbehaving.

Bai Chen handed Valstrax to her.

To Valstrax, Indeedee was half a mother. Her anger was justified—this hadn't been territorial defense, just mischief.

Bai Chen recalled Nergigante and approached the boy.

"I'm sorry—my partner suddenly attacked your Starly. I'll have him apologize."

The boy glanced at Nergigante, then at Valstrax being scolded.

Recovering quickly, he said,

"It's okay. We did intrude on your territory."

Flying Pokémon often had strong territorial instincts.

Being attacked wasn't unusual.

"Thank you for understanding," Bai Chen replied.

"I'm Ornith," the boy said.

"I'm Bai Chen."

Ash and the others came over and introduced themselves as well.

Ornith glanced at Noibat in Ash's arms, then recalled Valstrax's astonishing speed.

"Are you all here to participate in the Pokémon Sky Relay Race as well?"
