Chapter 123 - The Monster Hunter Gatling: Da-Da-Da~

The Defender Heavy Bowgun.

Its earliest blueprints came from the Hunter's Guild of the Old World.

After arriving in the New World,

the design underwent decades of refinement—

far different from its original form.

And although it was called a heavy bowgun,

these weapons had already surpassed the rifles and SMGs of the Pokémon world.

To enable rapid fire, the smiths developed a special ammo—

Wyvernheart.

Tinkatuff carried her ammo chest

and led Indeedee toward the training field.

Bai Chen, practicing dual-blade control, noticed them.

He sheathed both blades.

│ "You two look like an interesting pair. Something wrong?"

 │ "Yama."

Tinkatuff explained the situation briefly.

│ "Indeedee wants to try a heavy bowgun?"

Bai Chen looked at her—

and the heavy bowgun that was almost as tall as she was, even while folded.

Heavy bowguns were usually used by hunters

with extreme physical strength—

people at least 1.8 or 1.9 meters tall.

In terms of physical demands,

a heavy bowgun was no easier than melee weapons.

Hunting monsters required carrying huge amounts of ammo,

and that ammo alone could weigh as much as a full longsword.

Add the bowgun's weight on top of armor…

and the physical burden rivaled that of greatsword hunters.

 │ "Fuu!"

Indeedee, earnestly asked for permission.

│ "If you want to try, then try."

Bai Chen saw no reason to refuse.

The team lacked ranged support.

If Indeedee could handle a heavy bowgun,

He'd be thrilled.

Bai Chen used telekinesis to place a new training dummy

at the far end of the field.

The range was about 300 meters—

similar to an assault rifle's effective range.

 │ "Go on. Try it."

He encouraged her.

Following Tinkatuff's instructions,

Indeedee loaded Level 3 Normal Ammo.

She lifted the heavy bowgun and aimed—

BOOM.

The shot veered wildly.

The bullet flew straight into the sky.

The recoil nearly tore the bowgun out of her hands.

 │ "I'll give you a skill first."

Bai Chen copied Nergigante's Power Skill to her.

Just because this weapon came from a "low-tech" world

didn't mean its power should be underestimated.

These weapons were built to fight monsters—

and some monsters, like high-rank Basarios,

had defense tougher than tank armor.

The Rathalos that Bai Chen pierced with a Z-Move

had scales harder than steel.

If someone brought Pokémon-world rifles to hunt monsters…

Against any lv.45+ map boss,

a full magazine would leave only faint white scratch marks—

unable to even break the hide.

To pierce monsters of that level,

you needed weapons like anti-materiel sniper rifles.

And the heavy bowgun in Indeedee's hands

had muzzle energy comparable to one.

With her new Power Skill,

she aimed again—

BANG.

The shot hit the training dummy dead center.

Bai Chen's eyes brightened.

│ "Didn't expect you to have shooting talent too."

Indeedee's excitement grew stronger.

It was her first time using such a weapon—

something she'd only ever seen in movies.

She tried other ammo types:

Sticky Ammo, Pierce Ammo, and more.

Sticky Ammo—

a delayed-explosion round,

effective at breaking monster defenses.

Pierce Ammo—

high penetration,

with a range far beyond Normal Ammo.

Up to 600 meters.

Finally—

The ammo she anticipated the most:

Wyvernheart.

Wyvernheart was loaded into a large drum magazine—

50 rounds.

Indeedee attached the drum.

She aimed at the dummy 300 meters away—

She pulled the trigger.

The bowgun roared,

spitting flame nonstop.

In under thirty seconds,

all 50 rounds were gone.

The recoil dragged her backward,

leaving a 50-cm track carved into the ground.

The muzzle burned red—

Too hot to fire again until cooled.

The training dummy—

hit by only around 10 rounds due to bullet drift—

had massive holes blown clean through its body.

Bai Chen murmured to himself:

 │ "Power's basically a machine cannon…

│ Great force, great fire rate…

│ Price is the ugly part."

In the game, Wyvernheart was free after the cooldown—

low damage, high convenience.

In reality,

Wyvernheart was far stronger than standard ammo—

Each round is stronger than Level 3 Normal Ammo.

Those 50 rounds alone—

without labor—

Cost 500 gold in materials.

Around 10 gold per shot.

│ "If Indeedee really likes heavy bowguns,

 │ Money isn't the issue.

│ Plus, she has telekinesis like me—

│ She could wield two, even three heavy bowguns at once."

With that thought, Bai Chen told Tinkatuff

to bring out every heavy bowgun and Wyvernheart drum in the workshop.

She returned quickly—

carrying a rarity-5 Bone Shooter Heavy Bowgun,

and another special ammo type:

Wyvernsnipe.

The Bone Shooter Heavy Bowgun differed from the Defender Bowgun—

It was made from monster bone,

not metal.

Both had strengths.

Metal bowguns could use Wyvernheart,

and some could also fire Wyvernsnipe.

Bone bowguns excelled in range—

able to use WyvernSnipe for sniping at over 1 kilometer.

True long-range sniping.

│ "Indeedee, try using your telekinesis to control two heavy bowguns."

Indeedee obeyed immediately.

She suspended the Defender Bowgun in the air with psychic power.

And held the bone-crafted bowgun in her hands.
