Chapter 12 - CHAPTER 12: A NEW BEGINNING

Entendido.

CHAPTER 12: A NEW BEGINNING

Yumi was sitting at the table, but she wasn't eating. The cutlery remained untouched, aligned too perfectly for someone who was actually hungry.

Her gaze wandered through the hall, unfocused, while her fingers tapped lightly on the wood. "What a pain..." she muttered.

"Hmpf." She puffed out her cheeks, frustrated. 'Since he woke up... he's been like this. Distant. Cold. As if he's here, but not really.'

Steps echoed through the hall. "What are you grumbling about there, little sister?" Yumi raised her head immediately. "Kizoku?!"

"What are you doing here?" The young elf approached calmly. His blonde hair was tightly tied back, and the elegant navy-blue suit contrasted with an expression that was far too tranquil for the situation.

"Can't I visit my own sister when she's sulking?" "...You can. Whenever you want."

He pulled out a chair and sat in front of her, leaning his elbows on the table. "Then explain it to me quickly," he said in a low tone.

"Before Father shows up and decides to think this is my fault." Yumi looked away for a moment. "...It's just... there's someone here."

"A friend." Kizoku arched an eyebrow. "And this friend left you like this?"

She nodded, slowly. "He doesn't speak. He doesn't look at you properly. It feels like he's carrying something far too heavy."

"I tried to help... but he pushed me away." Kizoku remained silent for a few seconds. "I see."

He stood up. "Then take me to him." "What?!"

Yumi's eyes widened. "Don't look at me like that," he said with a slight smile.

"If you couldn't reach him alone, maybe you need someone from the outside." She hesitated. In the end, she only sighed. "...All right. Let's go."

Arthur was near the window when he heard footsteps. He didn't turn around. The landscape in front of him remained the same:

Clear sky, light wind, leaves swaying. Everything followed its course. 'Except for me.'

He felt the presence even before hearing the voice. "So, it's you." Arthur frowned slightly. "...Yumi."

"No. Today it's not just her." Arthur turned slowly. An unknown elf watched him intently, not with hostility — but also without pity.

"My name is Kizoku," he said. "Yumi's older brother."

Arthur remained silent. "She's worried about you," Kizoku continued.

"And when my sister worries too much... something is wrong." Arthur looked away. "...Nothing is wrong."

"Liar," Kizoku replied without raising his voice. "But I'm not going to pressure you."

He stepped to the side, making space. "I just want you to know one thing." Arthur looked up, even against his own will.

"Beginnings don't ask if you're ready," Kizoku said. "They just happen."

Silence. Arthur clenched his fingers. 'Beginning...' The word sounded strange.

Almost offensive. But, for the first time since he had woken up in that place...

He didn't feel the immediate urge to reject it.
