Chapter 48 - Unexpected case

Early June had arrived, marking the first day of the month International Children's Day. However, high school students were to attend school as usual, but since it fell on a Sunday, all students remained at home. More than a month had passed. After sitting and weeding the front yard to clean her house, kan received a chat from Sina saying that the Class President of 11D had improved after his mother's funeral had concluded more than half a month ago. However, the plan changed from watching a movie to simply going out for a meal. In fact, he didn't even remember the debt owed to him, but Sina decided to ask about it, which triggered his memory. He said it wasn't necessary as his mood or appearance hadn't fully recovered, but he claimed he was doing better. Sina then insisted that she would treat the Class President of 11D to a meal. Seeing this, he did not refuse and sent his location for them to follow. Before long, Sina arrived at the bus stop; after a short wait, kan arrived as well, smiling at her in greeting.

On the bus, while sitting quietly, kan suddenly turned to look at Sina's face because Sina spoke about exactly what she had been wondering she was even wondering about herself too. Sina asked if kan had something unsettling on her mind. She then told kan that what Kaan had mentioned last time might not necessarily be "him" referring to kan's habit of avoiding the Physics teacher. Kan gave an awkward smile and scratched her head; she was puzzled by herself as her feelings manifested that way, even though she had tried to confirm it and the Physics teacher truly had nothing suspicious about him. Nevertheless, the feeling always made her uncomfortable whenever she was near the Physics teacher, so she determined she must absolutely stop having that feeling. Sina smiled with amusement. Not wanting it to be said that she hadn't told kan, she mentioned that she also couldn't find the trace of that earring. Kan laughed, saying she hadn't expected to find it anyway. Sina was hiding something from kan regarding that matter. In truth, Sina was very grateful that kan had messaged through vud's chat to meet that day, but they only met late at night. At that time, kan had come to share her feelings and the appearance of the person she suspected, along with her discomfort regarding the Physics teacher. She told Sina because she thought Sina could help her figure out if it was really him. sina acted puzzled and surprised, but in her heart, she already understood the connection between the Physics teacher and Sara. Although there was no evidence, after hearing the suspicion about the Physics teacher, she smiled inwardly grateful for the information. Since that day, both Sina and kan had been secretly watching the Physics teacher, but they saw that he seemed to have nothing unusual going on with any female students. "Or is he acting?" kan suggested, but Sina pretended to disagree, saying the Physics teacher wasn't that kind of person and that he was a very good man. Eventually, Sina gave up the investigation. Seeing no results, kan gave up too, but her feeling remained uncomfortable whenever she saw the Physics teacher as she kept remembering that incident. Therefore, she always avoided the Physics teacher's face, but the teacher was unaware. this was why Sina asked Kaan on the bus. Sina did not share her own suspicions with kan; she intended to hide them for now to investigate further. She constantly spied on the interactions between Sara and the Physics teacher, but she found nothing! However, she was certain there was something more, so she often dropped subtle, passing remarks whenever she met Sara, saying Sara was truly the Physics teacher's favorite student! But Sara was not stupid; she knew those words were a taunt, though she didn't know what Sina was thinking about her and the Physics teacher. did she really not know, or was she just pretending?

The bus stopped, and they got off. They bought ice cream to eat while walking along the street. When they reached a restaurant, they saw the Class President of 11D already sitting and waiting for them.

"Hello! Hello!" kan and Sina smiled and sat down. At first, they didn't really dare to say much, but he broke the atmosphere and pulled over the menu to look, pointing at various dishes he wanted to eat. Kan and Sina looked at each other and leaned under the table to check their wallets; they smiled at each other, understanding that they would help each other pay.

"Sorry, you probably waited a long time!" Sina said. The Class President smiled back, saying it was fine and that he preferred arriving early. Before the food arrived, they had some drinks. Kan asked how he was doing and apologized for not being able to help with the funeral procession.

"Why is the senior apologizing? Apologizing like that makes me feel embarrassed because the senior doesn't even know me closely, yet you came to help serve tables at my ceremony I am already very grateful!" Sina asked him back whether his classmates found out after the ceremony ended. He smiled slightly, saying that secrets can't be kept for long and it was already in the past. If they asked, he had no reason to hide it, and they felt sorry as well. Speaking here, the Class President lowered his voice slightly and said that the police investigated and found it was a case of suicide. "I'm not satisfied at all."

Kan understood his feelings and mentioned she was also puzzled. At first, it looked like suicide, then the actions seemed like murder, but upon further investigation, it was concluded as suicide again it was truly unimaginable. Sina sat listening while sipping her drink. She had only heard rumors about this case; she never imagined it happened in the area near kan's house!

"A few days before the incident, my mother sometimes seemed normal. But after the incident occurred and the police investigated, something unimaginable was found. They saw that my mother had bought a medicinal needle at a pharmacy in town. As you know, Villages 2 and 3 are on the outskirts and have no cameras. Only after this happened did the Village Chief request cameras to be installed! The seller said she came to buy it for herself as a habit because she had diabetes it was normal. But that needle was found at the scene, along with medicine bottles nearby. They concluded my mother injected the medicine and swallowed the pills. But why did she have to walk to Village 3? Why did she go to kill herself there? I'm not satisfied, but the police closed the case because the fingerprints were hers, and they concluded she was too stressed from her illness. However, that medicine bottle was a bottle of sleeping pills. I don't know when she bought or used them. Checking her place, they found many sleeping pill bottles hidden. She hid them from the family because Dad was busy and the kids didn't know; she didn't want to tell anyone, so she kept it to herself! The police concluded that on that day, she opened her shop as usual because she didn't want the family to notice and then went to kill herself in Village 3 because from there, you can see the distant sea scenery, or perhaps she just wanted to get far away from Village 2 for some other purpose!"

Kan smiled, looking at him, and noted that he had been through a lot. She didn't have much to say, only hoping he would be strong. He was in Grade 11 and almost entering Grade 12; she hoped he would work hard and not disappoint his mother. The Class President of 11D nodded in thanks. Suddenly, the food arrived, and they ate together.

Later, they parted ways. Kan and the Class President of 11D walked along the road together. Along the way, the Class President suddenly asked about the relationship between Senior Hana and Kan if something was wrong. He noticed that when Senior Hana came to the funeral at night for just a few moments and met kan helping serve tables, the two of them didn't seem as close as before. Kan made an excuse, saying they were both too busy at the time and she was in a hurry to get home since her house and Hana's were different. Hana lived near the Class President's house, but kan lived in Village 3, so she had to hurry. He knew kan was making an excuse, but he didn't say anything; he just changed the subject to thank Hana and kan again for coming to help at his mother's funeral. Kan smiled and nodded. He entered his house. After walking for a while, she reached the path leading to Hana's house. She glanced over and suddenly saw Hana walking out while looking at her phone, appearing to be chatting with someone as she walked. Kan immediately rushed to hide behind a trash collection area, looking very panicked and not daring to face her, yet very curious about where Hana intended to go! Hana walked past that spot without noticing that kan was hiding nearby! Kan was relieved for a moment but quickly peeked from behind. Later, she turned back to walk to her own house but was suddenly startled by san, nearly falling backward! But San caught her hair just in time!

"Ouch! It hurts!" San quickly let go, and kan successfully fell! "Sorry, sorry!" sab apologized quickly while laughing. He then smelled the trash on her and asked what she had been doing to smell so bad. Kan stared at him with annoyance and asked why he was suddenly behind her and how he got here. He smiled, saying he had bought some vegetables and meat to bring to kan's house. He said he had told her, but didn't see her reply in the chat, only to realize she hadn't brought her phone it was charging at home! But he said he didn't see her at home, so he walked back. Coincidentally, near Hana's house, he saw kan peeking at something; he walked up quietly, intending to startle her from behind, and kan really was startled when she turned!

They went to the house, and kan grumbled, asking if he came to her house just for her to cook for him. Did he think she was his personal house chef? San nodded immediately. Seeing his face like that, she didn't refuse. Kan went to shower and change clothes while san sat watching a movie waiting for her. But he remembered something and walked over; he went to look at the displayed photos. He took one to look at and stroked the image of the little girl, who was kan, and also looked at the woman holding the small child in her arms. He really wanted to know the story clearly, but he didn't dare to ask! Suddenly, kan came down. He quickly put the photo back and complained that he didn't know what kan was doing and why she took so long. Kan saw san putting the photo back; she knew he had looked at it, but she still pretended not to know and hurried down to cook. Today's meal was steamed egg and fried prahok (fish that is filleted and fermented for a long time in a jar, a Cambodian tradition), which was minced and stir-fried with pork, eaten with side vegetables including cabbage, cucumber, salad, and long beans. They ate together, and kan suddenly asked if he had something he wanted to ask her. She seemed open to his questions, but it was unclear if she was open to answering honestly. Suddenly, she started choking because of San's question.

"Do you have a secret crush on someone? Because Auntie Khai told me!" "Huh? That's just talk!" kan quickly looked away, but her eyes showed it was the truth. San froze for a moment; earlier he was trying to hold back from asking about kan's family, then he asked about kan's crush, which led him to receive a surprising answer. He asked who it was, thinking in his heart: could it be me? Kan didn't hide it: "It's Tan!" Hearing this made San freeze completely, but he tried to eat the vegetables very quickly! "Hey! Eat slowly. Why, do you think I'm not a good match?" kan asked with a smile. "Oh, it's nothing!" He then said it was time for him to leave and, having said that, rushed away very quickly! "Mmm? Hey, help wash the dishes first!" kan was very annoyed. He came to eat and didn't help wash dishes just wait until school starts, he's going to get it!

San was completely stunned! Why him? He couldn't accept it; he needed some time to lick his wounds at home. Oh no, what is wrong with san?
