The aftermath of the CPR incident followed Kai for weeks.
Local news picked up the story" Stanford Student Saves Stranger's Life" and suddenly Kai was getting interview requests and social media attention he absolutely did not want.
"Make it stop," he groaned, staring at his phone which had been buzzing nonstop for three days. "I don't want to be on the news. I just want to do my internship and live my life."
"You saved someone's life," Maya said, sprawled on the couch eating cereal. "That's newsworthy."
"It shouldn't be. People should help people. That should be normal, not news."
"But it's not normal. That's why it's news." She scrolled through her own phone. "You have fan accounts now. That's so weird."
"Fan accounts?!" Kai looked genuinely horrified. "Why?"
"Because you're hot and heroic. People love that combination."
"I'm not heroic. And I'm definitely not hot."
