Chapter 52 - A Reckless Feeling
Louie's words settled over the room like a cloud. Even Arik had stopped playing and the absence of the jingling of his toys seemed to have drained the happiness away.
Idalia's hand trembled around the handle of her empty cup, she could feel worry running rampant in her veins, but she tried to remain stable. Her lips parted for a question that never made it.
There was a knock.
Everyone froze.
Idalia's eyes shot to the door and even without anything else, she already knew who was on the other side.
So when he said her name, her breath quivered.
"Miss Summers?"
She cleared her throat, rushing up to her feet.
Too many emotions rushed over her.
Fear.
Rage.
Hatred.
And fear again.
Fear, all the time.
"Can I come in?"
Louie had already stood up too and he had a light smile on his face. Every trace of his fear that he had exhibited moments ago was gone.
For how long had he been doing this? Putting on a facade to save his skin.
