Chapter 6
Two weeks later
"Catherine, pack your bags. We're gonna be late" My mom's voice rang off the walls of the house, and I groaned putting the last piece of scarf into my box and zipping it.
These past few weeks had been pure shit. After Landon came to my house, telling me not to date his brother, he just kissed me more aggressively and left with an explanation.
Two weeks now and no text from Xandon. Not even one.
How would you just kiss me like that, our first kiss ever out of nowhere and you just didn't text back?
I was right, maybe he just wanted to add me to the list of girls he's slept with.
I walked down the stairs, the sound of my box tyres rolling behind me. I was finally going back to school, that was six hours away from home, and away from all this craziness.
I adjusted my denim skirt and entered the car, putting on my earpiece as my mom began driving off to my school.
****
"See you later, sweetheart. Take care of yourself, okay?" My mom's smile was nearly as bright as the scorching sun, as she drove off still waving at me.
I stared at the old constructed brown building in front of, the sights of different students with trollies and boxed really slapped that session resumption into my head. Hard.
I took a deep breath in and began pulling my box up towards the stairs. I was immediately hit with antiseptic and cleaning agents, with strong smell of chlorine immediately I walked past those big brown doors.
This was my penultimate year and I couldn't wait to be done with college next year to focus on my event planning job, and tap back into my hobby of poem writing.
I hadn't written a poem in two years and those two years was when I entered college. The workload wasn't giving me any room for slow mornings, asking for time to poem write was a luxury–one I couldn't afford because I couldn't afford to fail.
I heard the various voices coming from my room, and I couldn't help but let out a groan as I whined. I was used to living alone in my dorm for the entire sessions I had been here, but now I have a roommate?
Really, Saint Monica?
I slowly opened my door and I was met with different colours of candy wraps and bodies sprawled out on the floor, with the voices still high and lost in whatever argument they were having.
"So how did you feel? I know for a fact that having a first kiss from someone who you've crushed on would put you in a state of coma just from excitement"
I blinked at the red haired girl that put her lollipop back into her mouth after asking a very blushing blonde the question, and my mind went back to Xandon's kiss.
It felt surreal when it happened–that I couldn't even remember that it was the first time we were kissing because it felt familiar, like something I had already tasted, but it still felt good anyway.
But later, the way he flipped it off by kissing Elisa made every sensation his skin left on mine turn to burning metal, and the smoothness of his kiss to turn sour and taste like poison.
I stood there, biting my teeth together as I felt myself get violated at the fact that he thought he could just kiss me anytime he liked, and waltz off to someone else.
"Uhm, guys?" The unsure voice brought me out of my head, and I slowly blinked looking at the pair of three eyes on me.
"Hey. Uh, I'm Esther" The only brunette among the trio stood up, her eyes going thinner as her smile increased.
"Hi, Catherine" I nodded my head, looking back at the speechless girl infront of me and I furrowed my eyebrows while glancing at her friends for help.
"Uhm, Esther has a problem with–"
"Oh My Goodness. You look so pretty and I love your hair. Damn, your eyebrows are full are so cute"
I blinked rapidly at the sudden outburst of compliments but I smiled nonetheless.
"Thanks" I looked between the three girls who were still smiling widely. "So, uhm, which of you is my roommate?"
"Oh, that'd be me" I turned at the sound of the nonchalant but smug tone, and it was the same red haired girl who asked the question earlier.
I nodded and the other two just glanced between the both of us.
I looked around the room and noticed the arrangement had changed. The two beds that stayed at the ends of the room opposite each other, had been changed.
One of the beds now sat under the window, while the other one was now positioned near the door of the toilet. And heavens help me, the one under the window was already dressed and bedded.
The inbuilt wardrobes for each bed was the only thing that remained unchanged at the back of the door. The reading tables were now at the foot of each bed and the room looks like it been reduced by half.
"You changed the arrangements? The room looks tighter. It's usually when you walk in, you are faced with two beds in front of you and the tables at the foot of the bed. No bed stays three feet close to the toilet"
The red haired just popped a bubble and stood to her feet, took her phone and walked to the door, but stopping when her friends didn't move an inch.
"Coming, guys?" I squinted my eyes, glaring at the plain disrespect from the girl who undoubtedly would be a freshman.
"Uhm, but, Stella–"
"Seriously, Heath?" Pressing her lips together the blonde began walking towards Esther and Stella, and with a glare from Stella to me, they all left the room.
I choked out a laugh, looking at the door like their heads–no, like her head, was stuck on it.
I ran my tongue across my teeth, and without another minute spent I walked towards the administration block.
"Hello, I'd like to see the assigning master of the freshmen" I tapped my feet, as the lady looked at me from above the rim of her glasses.
"About?"
"I need a change of roommate, or even better, no roommate at all" The office was silent as the woman typed away on her computer, the only sound heard was the sounds of keys being slammed in.
"Sir, seriously? You can even think of pairing me with someone else?" I furrowed my eyebrows at the familiar voice coming from behind the office doors.
Footsteps were heard and the door swung open. My eyes went wide and my brain blanked out, as I stared at the brown eyed guy infront of me.
His lips curving upwards as his mouth moved, but I didn't hear a single word he spoke.
I felt my heart race as I looked at the almost familiar face of Xandon. I felt my eyes beginning to sting, and my lips quivered as the message he sent and the way he kissed Elisa like our kiss–our first kiss, meant nothing.
I bit my lip back into reality, as I turned to focus on the woman in front of me who was still typing away.
"I saw your room number on your key chain, and you have Stella Rydes as your roommate" She told me, and I nearly rolled my eyes.
Why did I come here if I didn't know that?
"Yes, but is there a way to.. you know, change the roommate or better still go solo?" I closed my eyes as I stared at the deadpan expression on the woman's face, pleadingly.
"Miss, you know that the booking session is over. So you'd have to wait till the end of the semester. Have a great day"
I didn't bother asking anything again, as her tone already told me that she was done. As I stood up to leave, I checked around for the carbon copy of Xandon, but I didn't see him anywhere.
With slumped shoulders and a lot of mediations, I walked back to my very disorganized room.
"What the fuck?!"
I stood at my door, staring at Stella as her eyes met mine and she sniffed in white substance off the table.
I closed my eyes and let out a shallow breath. This is going to be a long semester.
