The train clattered forward with a "clunk, clunk".
Inside the soft sleeper compartment, the atmosphere was a bit peculiar.
Gu Lan leaned against the window, her eyes sparkling.
"Sister-in-law, look! We're almost at Beijing!"
Lin Wan Yi, holding Gu Ning, nodded with a smile.
"Yes, we're almost there."
Her gaze swept past the excited Gu Lan and landed on the man opposite her.
Gu Yanshen sat upright, like a silent sculpture.
He wasn't looking out the window, nor was he looking at them.
He was just staring at the shadows connecting the carriages, lost in thought.
In the entire compartment, apart from Gu Lan's chatter, there was another particularly jarring sound.
"Wah—wah—"
The sharp crying almost pierced through one's eardrums.
The middle-aged woman sitting diagonally across from them was impatiently bouncing the child in her arms.
"Crying, crying, all you know is crying! Such a troublesome little thing!"
