The sun dipped below the horizon, and darkness slowly swallowed the town as Danica arrived at the hospital. Clad in a nurse's uniform, she moved down the corridor with confidence as though she worked there. But her eyes gleamed with a deadly resolve.
She scanned her surroundings. Once she was certain no one was nearby, she slipped her phone from her pocket and dialed a number.
As soon as the call connected, she demanded, "What's the update? Tell me the room is empty."
She wanted to finish her task swiftly and leave without drawing attention.
"There is no one inside," came the male voice on the other end. "You can go in now. But stay alert. If anything feels off, leave immediately."
"I know," she snapped. "You don't need to remind me."
