"An accident?" Summer lifted her chin slowly. One brow arched as if Danica's act amused her rather than offended her. "Don't lie. I can see exactly what you are doing."
She didn't raise her voice. She didn't need to. The corners of her mouth twitched into a mocking, dismissive smile.
"You are so transparent, pathetic," she muttered with contempt.
The tension around them thickened, drawing curious glances from nearby guests.
Danica, however, didn't drop her act. Sensing people's gazes on them, she acted pitifully. She pushed out her lower lip, making a wronged face. "I know you are upset, Summer. But please… don't blame me." Turning toward the gathering onlookers, she added, her voice almost pleading. "I didn't do it on purpose. Please, tell her."
"It didn't look intentional," someone in the crowd said.
Danica seized the chance and nodded quickly. "Yes. I didn't see her coming and accidentally bumped into her."
