At the hospital…
A tall man in a white coat stepped into the room. A surgical mask covered half his face, concealing his features, but his eyes were sharp as they swept over the room. His gaze settled first on Hope, sleeping peacefully on the bed. Then his eyes shifted to the elderly woman dozing on the chair beside her.
He moved closer and cleared his throat to check if the woman was really asleep.
Holy jolted awake, startled out of her slumber. She looked up instantly and found a man standing over her.
"Doctor," she said, pushing herself to her feet.
A frown crept over her face as she studied him. She had never seen him before. Usually, it was Dr. Ashton who came once a day, sometimes accompanied by a junior doctor. This man felt different.
Assuming he was another junior doctor sent by Dr. Ashton, she spoke politely, "Hope just fell asleep a while ago."
