Shota crouched on a rocky outcrop high above the battlefield. The wind carried screams and the smell of blood as shinobis were slaughtered by the dozens.
Below, the Third Raikage moved like a storm made of muscle and electricity as he showed why the world feared him to the Iwa shinobi as well as the Suna Anbu watching.
While no one voiced it, every Suna anbu could tell that even their Kazekage was no match for the Raikage. With his speed and power, Raikage could easily bypass the Kazekage's gold dust defenses.
Spider stood beside him, mask hiding his face, but Shota could feel the tension.
They had waited on purpose. He waited for Spider's signal to use his Erasure on the Raikage.
The Kazekage's quiet order had been clear: let Iwa bleed a little. They were allies today, but tomorrow they could be enemies again. If Iwa lost too few men killing the Raikage, they would come out of this war stronger than Suna. A few hundred dead would hurt, but not cripple Iwa. It would keep the balance between all the great villages.
Shota understood the cold math.But he still hated it as watched people die for pointless reasons.
He watched the Raikage tear through Iwa lines. He was using the jutsu that Shota had seen in the anime when he was resonated. The Hell Stab pierced chests of shinobis like paper. He was already on three fingers. Men died before they could scream.
Shota rubbed his temples.
'We should not weaken them too much either. If too many Iwa shinobi die, Ōnoki might just decide to kill us all here. Tit for tat. He would say that our job was to reduce the deaths of Iwa shinobi and we failed to do so and he would be quite a logical reason too. This would result in everyone bleeding. Everyone loses. And in some dark cave, Madara and Zetsu sit with popcorn, laughing while the great villages tear each other apart without their interrupting. Great plan, adults. Ten out of ten.' Shota thought sarcastically.
Spider's voice cut through his thoughts.
"Now. Do it."
Shota nodded as he opened his eyes wide and used Erasure on the blurring Raikage.
Or well tried to as nothing happened.
The Raikage kept moving in a blue blur with his lightning cloak still bright. Iwa men still dying by his hands.
Shota blinked. He was confused for why it was not working. He was not so far that the Raikage was not visible. Well, the Raikage was technically still not visible as he was still a blue blur to Shota's eyes.
'Ah that might be the reason that it's not working. I thought that I just needed the person to be in my eyesight to use my ability but it seems like they also need to be clear in my vision.' Shota thought
He rubbed the back of his head, cheeks burning under the mask in embarassment.
"Uh… We might have a small problem." Shota said to spider.
Spider turned slowly. "What problem?"
"I can't get a good look at the Raikage. He's too fast. Just a blur. And I don't think Erasure works if I can't see at least part of him clearly."
Spider stared for a long second.
Then he sighed so hard it sounded like wind leaving a balloon.
"You're telling me the strongest man in Kumo is too fast for your eyes to work and we have no chance to stop his chakra until we make him less fast or stop him?"
Shota shrugged. "Pretty much."
Spider looked like he wanted to laugh or cry. Maybe both.
On the battlefield, the Raikage kept killing. He had also started using jutsus other than his lightning cloak. Black lightning shaped like a dragon exploded in the centre of Iwa ranks. Dozens burned or flew through the air.
Spider turned to a nearby Suna ANBU.
"Go tell the Iwa jōnin. They need to stop the Raikage for one second. The boy needs a clear shot at the Raikage for his ability to work."
Earthworm, watching from a few metres away, spoke quietly.
"This would reveal a weakness to Raven's ability that we did not even know about. Enemies will prepare for it in the future."
Spider shrugged. "It doesn't matter. Not many can move that fast. Raikage's son and The Yellow Flash. Maybe one or two others. And the list would end with them. We can live with it."
The Suna messenger ran down the hill toward an Iwa commander.
Ōnoki floated high above and heard the message. His old face twisted in anger.
'Damn those Suna rats. If this is a trick to make me lose more men, I will bury them in stone.'
He shouted an order.
"Lava Corps! Quicklime conglomerate!"
Dozens of Iwa shinobi with lava release stepped forward. They breathed out thick clouds of quicklime powder. It covered the ground around the Raikage.
But the quicklime did not faze the Raikage who was confused by this strategy.
'Do you think that I would slip in this quicklime?' Ã sneered in his mind.
Iwa shinobi were not done though as Water release users followed. Streams of water hit the lime and turned it to hard cement in seconds.
The Raikage's legs stuck inside the cement.
For one perfect second, he stopped but it did not take him long to break through the cement.
He was about to take another step and move to engage the lava release users but his lightning cloak vanished and so did his chakra.
The Raikage's eyes widened while Shota smiled. He needed only that one second to do his trick and work his magic.
