Shota moved quickly across the dessert dunes under the burning sun. His black ANBU clothes were packed away in a sealed scroll.
He wore simple traveller robes the colour of sand. The city of Tamashiro's territory rose slowly in the distance.
His mind was already calculating the implications of he failed this mission.
If he failed this mission, the consequences would be huge. Killing a noble from their own country could make the daimyo angry.
The daimyo might think Suna did not respect his power. He might think the village would one day come for him too. Trust would break between the nobles and the shinobi.
Missions would stop coming from the nobles. They would start hiring Samurai for their protection. They would stop giving funds to Suna. Money would dry up. The village would suffer for years.
And then Shota's eyes widened in realisation as he realised that these consequences were quite similar to what Suna would suffer in the future.
He remembered something from the original story. In the future, the daimyo started giving most missions to Konoha instead of Suna.
The village became poor. And Rasa had to ally himself with Orochimaru to make Konoha pay for this. Only for him to get killed by Orochimaru.
'Was this assassination the reason? Had someone failed the mission and the daimyo punished Suna?' Shota thought before shaking his head
He did not know. He was just assuming things. Maybe the daimyo had other reasons. But even the smallest chance made this mission heavier than any before.
He could not fail. Economic depression for Suna would be worse than any village can face. Suna relied on money to buy the most basic supplies of food and water. Without it many would die of hunger.
With that thought in mind, Shota continued walking towards the city as the walls of the city appeared in the distance.
Tall stone painted white to reflect the sun. Guards stood at the main gate. Some wore normal armour. Some wore samurai plates. Shota spotted shinobi too.
'Now that's some high level security for a civilian city. It's as if they are expecting something going wrong. Tamashiro Tamiko might be expecting a retaliation from Suna. It's a possibility. There might be sensory shinobi at the gate too, hiding somewhere.' Shota thought
He knew that he would have to enter the city lowkey. He was sure that someone would be monitoring everyone entering the city through shinobi methods like climbing up the wall. So he decided to take the civilian route.
He stopped behind a dune and opened his small pack. Grey dye for his hair. Cheap round glasses he bought from a travelling merchant. A loose brown shirt and shorts like any desert child would wear. He tied his hair in a messy style different from his usual. Then he sat cross-legged and began suppressing his chakra to the level of the civilian.
The feeling was awful. His power shrank to almost nothing. He felt weak, slow, empty. Like someone had stolen half his blood.
He hated it.
But he smiled anyway. At least now he knew how his targets felt when he stared at them. Their chakra vanished and they stood there helpless. He wondered why they did not just fall unconscious or died since chakra exhaustion was supposed to be lethal.
In the My Hero Academia world, after Erasure was disabled, the person got his quirk back. Maybe chakra worked the same way. The body kept the chakra but the person loses his ability to use it until he or she is no longer under the effect of Erasure.
'It would have been so cool and overpowered if I could do it, a look at the person and he falls unconscious. Anyways, let's stop daydreaming and let's focus on the mission.' Shota's gaze hardened as he focused on infiltrating the city.
He stood up and walked toward the gate like a normal lost child.
People stared. A small boy alone in the desert was strange. Some guards frowned. One samurai put a hand on his sword.
Shota kept his face open and curious. Big eyes. Small smile. Hands open to show he carried no weapons.
A guard with a thick beard stepped forward. "Kid, what are you doing out here alone?"
Shota made his voice higher and softer. "I am from Kinto village, sir. My family sent me to buy rice and salt. We ran out last week."
Kinto was a real village 3 hours away from the city. Food running out was common in the Land of Wind. Everyone knew that.
The guard looked at his friend. The shinobi and according to Shota's assumption a sensor ninja who was behind them watched Shota for a long moment then shook his head slightly.
The first guard stepped aside. "Go on. Stay in the market. Do not wander."
Shota bowed politely and walked through the gate.
He kept his steps slow and his eyes wide like any child seeing a big city for the first time. Inside, his heart beat fast.
Just like he thought. They had a sensor ninja watching everyone who entered. Tamashiro was scared. The city was ready for assassins.
'This was going to be harder than any mission before.'
Shota walked deeper into the streets, blending with the crowd of shoppers and merchants. His grey hair and glasses changed his face enough. His suppressed chakra made him feel like nothing more than a normal boy..
