Shota sat cross-legged on the floor in front of Shizu and gave her his best mysterious smile.
"I am going to teach you how to create chakra strings," he said with a dramatic pause.
Shizu's excited face fell flat. She crossed her arms and pouted. "We learn that in final year of the academy anyways. Everyone says it is boring. It's only useful for a puppetter and I don't think that I can be one. Teach me something cooler, like a fireball jutsu."
Shota laughed softly. "Chakra strings are the coolest thing in the world, Shizu. You just don't know yet."
'Even I did now know it until Spider demonstrated me how useful they could be. Not only useful but surprisingly versatile in all situations.' Shota thought internally.
He had not seen Chakra threads being used in such a way in the show. This made Shota realise that the show focused on the main characters, the protagonists of this world but there were much more people in the world.
People who were trying their best to be a strong shinobi and survive on the battlefield. Not all kekkei genkai or unique abilities were shown in the show. There were likely many such abilities in all the hidden villages.
Shota knew the story of only Konoha but the other villages had their own jutsus and their own talents that had let them survive against them in three great shinobi wars.
And Spider was one of them. He had created an entire branch of new jutsus with Chakra threads in mind.
Shota looked at Shizu who still did not believe in how Chakra threads can be cool.
"Remember when I lifted your entire bed while you were sleeping and you thought ghosts did it? Chakra strings. Remember when I made your doll dance across the room without touching it? Chakra strings. Remember when I stopped you from hugging me in the hospital? Chakra strings again."
Shizu's eyes went round. Her pout vanished. "Really? Teach me now! What are you waiting for? Christmas?"
Shota had a wry smile. Kids changed moods faster than the desert wind.
"First, tell me your record for the leaf sticking exercise," he asked.
Shizu puffed out her chest proudly. "One hour and ten minutes! And I can stick five leaves at the same time! Nobody in class comes close!"
Shota nodded slowly. He had suspected it for a long time. Shizu's chakra control was excellent, maybe even better than his at her age. That was rare and precious.
There was a reason that he decided to start teaching Shizu chakra threads and why he knew that he would not let her become a mediocre shinobi.
Most shinobi were ordinary. They had no clan secrets, no bloodline limits, no tailed beast. They lived normal lives and died normal deaths on some battlefield. Shota had seen too many of them disappear already in his small life of ten years.
But some ordinary shinobi became legends through hard work.
Rock Lee had no ninjutsu or genjutsu, yet he kicked a genius jinchuriki half to death who later become the kage of his village.
Sakura started as a normal girl with small reserves, but she trained until she could punch the ground into pieces and heal wounds that should kill.
Might Guy opened the Gate of Death and nearly ended the war with one kick. Even Madara acknowledged him as the greatest Taijutsu user.
None of them were born special. They were made special. They had superb mentors that had not given up on them and had trained them to be special.
Tsunade had taught everything to Sakura, Guy was taught by his father and Guy himself taught Lee.
Shota would act as that mentor for Shizu.
And Shizu can be similar to them.
Shota looked at his little sister and made a promise to himself. He would become the teacher those legends had. He would guide her, push her, protect her dreams even when they scared him.
He could not teach medical jutsu like Tsunade. He could not give her the Strength of a Hundred Seal. He could not teach her eight inner gates.
If Shota had his way, he would have paid people to teach her iryo ninjutsu and made sure his little sister stayed far away from the battlefield but he was not going to push his own ideals on her.
But he could give her something just as powerful: perfect chakra control and the endless world of chakra strings.
Chakra Strings can be a path to become an S rank Shinobi.
Sasori had controlled hundreds of threads at once and turned people into puppets without lifting a finger. Spider had turned those same strings into invisible weapons that could slice stone. Shota was only beginning to understand how far the art could go.
And Shizu would walk that path with him.
Puppeteering was expensive and dark. Shota wanted nothing to do with it, and he would never let Shizu touch human puppets.
But pure chakra strings? Those were clean. Those were limitless. A girl with perfect control could tie the world in knots if she wanted.
Shota was both himself against puppettering and did not want Shizu to go into that path as well. Puppettering was expensive and after every battle your puppets would be destroyed leading to reapirs or creating new puppets. Only the wealthy could focus on that art or someone who could turn dead bodies into puppets.
'Starting her early on the path of chakra strings would help her develop her ability early in the future. And spider never said that I can't teach anyone his jutsu. Well, how can I teach it when I have barely passed the first step myself.' Shota thought with a grimace.
But he thought that teaching someone else and getting a fresh perspective might help him get through this.
Shota smiled at Shizu's excited face.
"We will make your control even better first," he said. "Tree walking. Sand walking. Water walking. Every day after academy. Then we start real string training."
Shizu jumped to her feet. "I will walk on water tomorrow! And trees! And then I will make a hundred strings and lift the whole orphanage!"
Shota laughed. An hour ago she had been crying her eyes out. Now she looked ready to fight a tailed beast.
Kids really were easy to cheer up.
