Chapter 111: Wanted
In the bustling metropolis, Chris was wandering around with Stewie in his arms.
At this time, Chris still didn't know that he'd been marked by the locals of this world.
Of course, if he had known, he would only have found it surprising, then tracked down the other party, killed them, and acquired that special power.
"You probably haven't tried goat milk, have you? Come on, try some." Chris grinned mischievously as he poured a bottle of goat milk into Stewie's mouth, wanting to see his reaction.
Stewie, with his weakened humanity, didn't stop Chris's actions, allowing him to feed him the heavily pungent goat milk.
But the moment the dairy product entered his mouth, Stewie let out a "blegh" and a torrent of vomit gushed out.
Pedestrians nearby noticed the situation and quickly covered their mouths and noses, moving away from the area.
However, a few elderly people frowned, and an old lady, unable to bear it, walked up and questioned, "What are you doing? Are you this child's parent? Don't you know he's lactose intolerant?"
Chris, being accused, looked up. His imposing figure startled the old lady, making her take a step back, but she still stared at Chris firmly.
Realizing that the old lady was acting out of kindness, Chris didn't get angry with her. Instead, he smiled and explained, "This is my little brother. He ate something he shouldn't have, and I'm helping him throw it up."
Hearing Chris's explanation, the kind old lady observed Stewie with concern, and when she saw that he indeed showed no signs of abuse, she nodded apologetically and left.
After Chris's stunt, Stewie did indeed recover some vitality. Wiping the vomit from the corner of his mouth, he began to complain, "I'm still a baby! If you want to stimulate my emotional system, can't you use a gentler approach, like affection?"
Noticing Stewie's humanity gradually returning, Chris's eyes lit up. This method was working!
"Haha, isn't this faster? With all that touchy-feely stuff, who knows if you'd turn into a heartless machine in the meantime?"
Chris said with a playful laugh. Stewie sneered twice, then said with an agitated tone, "Ha ha, then I really have to thank you!"
"No need for that! We're brothers, after all!" Chris pretended not to hear the sarcasm in Stewie's words, and patted his oversized head as he spoke, grinning.
Stewie wasn't angry about Chris's rude behavior. He was also aware of how dangerous his previous state had been.
He'd almost lost his humanity and become part of the cosmic consciousness.
In his past life, Stewie had never encountered such a problem, so he had no experience with this situation.
Fortunately, Chris reacted in time, not only slowing down the fading of his humanity but also finding a way to significantly restore it.
Otherwise, there would be no human Stewie at this moment, only a 'mindless drone' with Stewie's body remaining.
"What's your situation now? Has the problem been resolved?"
Looking at the pensive Stewie, Chris curiously checked on his condition.
However, Chris couldn't delve his psychic ability into Stewie's body, so he could only infer the kid's current situation from his expression.
Noticing the tension in Chris's words, Stewie's heart warmed.
But due to emotional numbness, he still couldn't make rich expressions, so he could only explain in a calm voice:
"To put it in terms you can understand, I've pulled back from the edge of 'transcendence,' but I can't fully relax yet. I need more emotional stimulation to restore my human feelings."
While Chris couldn't see the changes in Stewie's expression, just from his choice of words, he could tell that Stewie's emotions were much stronger than before.
This reassured Chris greatly. As long as the kid was okay, everything else could be figured out.
Anyway, according to Chris's previous plan, as long as he took Stewie to some interesting activities, under external stimulation, his emotions would increase as his life experiences grew.
Just like that old drunk next door, he'd gradually find the meaning of living.
And because Stewie's life had just begun and he hadn't fallen into extreme nihilism like Rick, it would be even easier to regain his humanity.
So, after a moment of thought, Chris confirmed curiously, "I'm not sure if what you mean by 'emotional stimulation' aligns with my understanding, but participating in some wild activities should also have some effect, right?"
Stewie nodded in agreement, confirming, "Your understanding is correct. Doing things I haven't done before would indeed be effective."
"Then how about playing cat and mouse with some super assassins? Want to give it a shot?"
"Huh?" Stewie looked at Chris in confusion, wondering why he suddenly asked this question.
Then Stewie saw Chris looking up at the sky, his gaze fixed on a skyscraper.
And in Chris's perception, a very interesting scene was unfolding inside that building, a scene that had once left a deep impression on Chris.
"So it's this universe! Do you know about the Fraternity?"
While Chris was explaining to Stewie, a muscular man in a suit suddenly shot out of the building.
He broke through the building's glass at a speed beyond normal human sight, but instead of falling and dying like an ordinary person, he crossed dozens of meters in a perfect arc, crashing into another building.
Chris stood on the street, staring intently at the badass and cool dude, listening to his heart roar like a jet engine, but what he was thinking about was the brutal death he would soon face.
"About a thousand years ago, a group of people in the textile industry formed an assassin organization that believed in fighting fire with fire, killing one to save thousands. They followed the so-called guidance of fate and then hid among regular people, influencing human development.
Until modern times, some power-hungry bastard altered the organization's code to serve his own selfish interests, thus landing on the so-called kill list."
Just hearing Chris's brief explanation, Stewie guessed the subsequent story development.
He'd also seen the black figure that had just leaped between the two skyscrapers and said curiously, "Was that guy just now a member of this organization? So, there really is such a thing as fate?"
Chris waved his hand to block the falling glass shards, then heard gunshots from the top floor of the building, and the last words of the man in the suit, immediately knowing that the guy was toast.
"Probably, but that's got nothing to do with us. What I mean is, are you interested in messing around with those assassins? They're all on fate's kill list, and this world is also called Wanted, precisely for that reason."
"Kill List?" Stewie's eyebrows twitched, and he looked at Chris meaningfully.
From the few pieces of information Chris had just mentioned, he already had an initial theory about this so-called fate.
Now, hearing the term "Kill List," he even thought of the Shinigami from the Death Note universe.
And Chris, hearing Stewie's murmur, also froze for a moment, and he too made some connections.
"Damn, could the fate of this world really have something to do with that Death God!"
