Chapter 100: Differences Between Worlds
Brian's complaints dissipated like the breeze outside the window, vanishing in the blink of an eye.
As Chris had mentally prepared himself, Flynn, who was leading the way, indeed encountered a problem.
On the secluded back road, an SUV loaded with camping gear was parked sideways across the path, directly blocking Flynn's continued progress.
He slowly reduced his speed and stopped in front of the SUV.
"Hey, does anyone need help?"
Flynn got out of the car and called out. He could see that the SUV's tire had blown out, and there was no one inside the vehicle.
After Flynn's loud shout, rustling sounds came from the nearby woods, and then several young men and women emerged from the hillside.
"Oh thank God! Finally, someone came by!"
The leader of the group quickly walked up to Flynn, enthusiastically preparing to greet him.
However, Flynn cautiously took a step back and then called out to Chris and the others who were approaching: "They seem to be in trouble. Can you come take a look?"
Stewie, sitting on Chris's shoulder, laughed and said, "Hahaha, looks like you were right. This scene is way too classic."
However, unlike Stewie, who saw an opportunity for entertainment, Chris looked at the SUV with the blown tire in confusion, realizing that the vehicle seemed to have genuinely broken down due to an accident, and not been deliberately sabotaged by backwoods cannibals like in the movies.
Recalling the plot from the films, Chris extended his senses and indeed detected several creatures with unusual life signatures in this mountain forest.
Although their life essence was very similar to ogres, they lacked the cruel aura of those monsters. Instead, they were somewhat similar to Ruby after she'd stopped eating people.
Regardless, this group of people in front of him clearly needed help, so Chris decided to help them fix their vehicle first.
He walked up to the SUV, set Stewie down, and inspected the car, finding that only the tire had blown out with no other issues.
Chris looked at the group of young travelers and then asked quietly, "Do you have a spare tire in your car?"
However, the several people exchanged awkward glances, and Chris immediately understood.
It turned out these guys hadn't prepared properly and had just boldly set out on their trip.
Seeing this, Chris was at a loss. The Hummer's tires were too large and couldn't be used on this kind of ordinary SUV.
And even if Flynn's sedan had a spare tire, it couldn't get this SUV running—that kind of spare would be way too small.
"Sorry, we can't help you," Chris said, then moved the SUV to the side of the road, clearing enough space for passage.
Chris's astonishing strength stunned everyone present, causing the young people who'd wanted to say something else to quickly shut their mouths.
Although Flynn was equally shocked, he knew about some of the special effects of the dragon's blood supplement, and coupled with Chris's powerful build, he quickly accepted this extraordinary display of strength.
He watched the boy who shared his first name leave, scratching his head with a troubled expression, but not uttering any demands about forcing Chris to help.
After all, Chris's willingness to come and look showed that he'd wanted to help these young people.
It was just unfortunate that due to their own lack of preparation, Chris couldn't assist them further, so there was no point in asking more of him.
After a brief moment of consideration, Flynn invited the young men and women, saying, "Why don't you leave your car here for now and come with me to the nearest town to figure out your next move?"
The leading guy looked at a girl in the group and confirmed, "Jessie, what do you think?"
The blonde girl thought for a moment, then grabbed a black backpack from the SUV and thanked Flynn, saying, "Thank you for being willing to help us. Like you said, let's head to the nearest town to find some assistance first."
However, after the girl agreed, two people in their group objected, saying, "Wait, Jessie."
"What's wrong, Evan?" Jessie turned to look at her laid-back companion.
"You guys go to town by car. Francine and I will stay here. We still have a ton of our stuff in the vehicle."
Seeing this, Jessie looked at another guy in the team, "Scott, what about you and Carly?"
Scott looked at Evan, who was preparing to stay behind, and saw his friend wink at him, immediately understanding his intention.
"Carly and I will go with you. That way we can all fit."
After they'd settled their plans, Flynn got into his car, and the three who were heading to town climbed in as well.
"I'm Chris Flynn, on my way to a job interview." Looking at the attractive young woman who sat next to him, Flynn swallowed and introduced himself.
"Jessie Burlingame. Out with friends trying to clear my head." Looking at the kind and handsome man, Jessie, who had recently gone through a breakup, felt a spark of interest.
Scott and his fiancée Carly, sitting in the back seat, exchanged glances and shared a knowing smile.
Just as the young man and woman were about to get better acquainted, Brian drove up alongside them, and Chris turned to Flynn and said, "Hey man, we might have to part ways here. We're going to explore this forest."
Hearing Chris's words, Flynn said with a hint of regret, "Alright, friend. I hope we meet again sometime."
Chris nodded in response, then had Brian accelerate and drive off.
By now, Chris had confirmed that this was the plot from Wrong Turn, but what surprised Chris was how different the development of this scenario was from the movie.
Not to mention that the gas station owner earlier had no malicious intentions—even these originally doomed travelers now genuinely had vehicle problems due to an accident, rather than falling into a trap set by backwoods cannibals.
Furthermore, in Chris's perception, the mountain dwellers showed no intention of hunting these people.
What made Chris even more curious was that he detected the scent of a wendigo here.
He wanted to see what the Family Guy version of the local wendigo looked like.
Under Chris's guidance, Brian drove the truck into a secluded valley, where dilapidated vehicles—all appearing to have been in accidents—were parked everywhere.
"Is this it? I'm picking up three humanoid life signatures inside. God, they reek."
Brian looked at the run-down wooden cabin in the center of the abandoned vehicles, covering his nose and muttering.
Then Stewie exclaimed, "Oh my God! They're eating people! Look at the red stains on their faces!"
Following Stewie's pointing finger, Brian also saw the scene he described, but after a moment's hesitation, Brian said uncertainly, "That liquid doesn't look like blood. Human blood isn't that thick."
Chris also looked, and with his enhanced vision, he could see even more clearly and could smell the scent of the red liquid.
However, after detecting a sweet and tangy tomato smell, Chris looked at Stewie with an exasperated expression, then got out of the truck on his own.
He'd confirmed that the Family Guy version of these mountain people wasn't as brutal as the original film. The red liquid on their faces was just ketchup.
