Chapter 15 - The Journey (5)

Jasen moved quickly through his room, his thoughts precise and he was calm and cold as he moved,.

He retrieved the emergency food stash he had hidden in the ventilation shaft in his room. The vent in his room were too narrow for his frame, but still wide enough to conceal supplies. He packed the nutrient bars, hydration packs, and a small vial of the high-proof alcohol into a compact waterproof carry bag.

Next, he tore a long strip of toilet paper from the dispenser, rolled it tightly, and soaked one end with the alcohol. This was a make shift fuse. It will burn slowly but he had to set up another one, in order to cause a big enough distraction.

He took one last look around the room before lighting the fuse. This place had never been his home. It was his prison. With no nostalgia Jasen didn't hesitate. He ignited ignited the soaked paper with a small biotic spark and set it inside the bottle. The paper stretched from the door to the bathroom where he placed it. He placed the improvised flammable materials in a stack.

Then he slipped out his room into the hallway. The alarms shouldn't sound for at least 3 to 4 minutes. He would use that time to make it to the cafeteria and then the roof.

Security patrols passed through the halls in the distance. Jasen hugged the walls, timing his movements with precision. His omni-tool flickered faintly as he disrupted camera feeds for just a few seconds at a time, never long enough to raise suspicion, only long enough for him to pass unseen.

He reached the blind-spot corridor, or the "love hallway," as he'd mentally named it. As he turned the corner, two familiar figures stood there in the heat of passion

A man and a woman, once their eyes met mine, they both struggling to straighten their uniforms, their voices hushed and irritated.

"Oh… Subject 13?" the woman said, adjusting her jacket. "What are you doing out so late?"

Jasen didn't panic. He recognized the two, they were the slut's of this facility. Bring people to this secluded area, and getting hot and heavy. Lord knows what would show up if someone shown a black light here.

Jasen needed to get rid of them quick, 1 minute and 45 seconds have already passed. I'm not sorry with what I'm about to do.

"Officer Derren," he said calmly. "I didn't expect to see you with Officer Holmes tonight. I thought you were with Researcher Bons. Or was it Researcher Black? And you, Officer Holmes, I'm surprised you're not with Researcher Stewart. Or Officer Chase."

The corridor went silent. The woman's eyes widened, while the man stiffened.

"You bring other woman here?" she snapped.

"Don't give me that, you been sleeping with Bons... Bons, of all the people, that idiot!" he fired back.

"Well that idiot has a big head if you know what I mean. Plus he knows how to please a woman. I can't believe your sleeping with Chase. She's my best friend."

The man scoffed. "You talk shit about her all the time, and she knows how to suck and swallow like a proper lady."

Their kept argument escalated, voices rising as they stormed off in opposite directions, leaving the corridor empty.

Jasen exhaled and sighed. Bloody Hell.

Then he jumped, grabbed the wall ledge, and pulled himself into the vents. He crawled upward through the familiar network, stopping to retrieve his hidden supply bags. The facility's hum echoed through the metal shafts, but his movements were silent.

At the cafeteria access vent, he stopped again. Jasen carefully placed his improvised fire device near the storage crates of the high proof alcohol. When the bottle shattered and the flame spreads, the alcohol would spread and ignite.

Then BOOM.

A perfect. Loud and chaotic distraction.

He climbed higher, toward the rooftop access level, with thirty seconds to spare. Then a loud explosion could be heard in the distance.

Then the alarms screamed. Red emergency lights flooded the corridors below.

Across the facility. Jasen eye's were cold and focused. Now things were gonna get alot harder.

In Korgath office he snatched up a blaster as armored security units entered his room. Automated turrets rotated into active positions outside the facility. Drones lifted from their charging bays, and began to fly around the island.

Far above, rain hammered against the transport ship as Matriarch Yelara, Sula, and Ela lifted off from the island. As they notice the Island on heightened alert.

Ela looked back once, her eyes gleaming with unreadable intent.

Sula clenched her jaw. "Get out alive, kid," she whispered.

Yelara simply stared ahead, swirling a liquid in her champagne glass. Her expression cold and distant.

Jasen dropped from the vent into a stairwell and sprinted upward. When he turned around the corner, to hallway leading to the stairwell he say them. "Subject 13, stop!" a guard shouted.

But Jasen didn't slow down , he actually ran forward. His adrenal glands surged at will, his perception sharpening as the world slowed around him. He saw the guards' movements slowly down significantly, his thoughts raced fast, as he the guards probable movements before they made them. The shift in their stance, the tightening fingers on triggers of their pistols.

Purple biotic energy exploded around his body, as he thrust one hand forward.

A biotic shockwave hurled the two guards into the walls with bone-crushing force. Jasen snatched a fallen pistol from the floor without breaking stride and continued up the stairs.

Soon another squad rounded the corner.

Jasen created a biotic shield and charged straight through the roof exit door, shattering it outward in a burst of kinetic force.

As Jasen reached the outside roof of the facility. Rain slammed into him the moment he stepped outside. Dark clouds rolled overhead, as the wind howled. The roof turrets rotated toward him, and Drone lights shined on him.

Adrenaline still surging through his body. He sprinted and jump for the fenced edge. With biotic energy surged again as turret fire slammed into his shield. The impacts rattled his bones, but the barrier held.

Jasen launched himself off the roof as he glided through the air for a brief moment. He hit the sand near the shoreline soft, with purple eezo energy breaking his fall, he rolled forward in the sand, and kept sprinting to the water.

The Alarm of the facility was loud , as the sound of the rushing waves hit his ears. The rain did not blind or hinder Jasen sights. He knew off memory, and the glint of lights in the far off distance where he was going.

Gunfire thundered behind him.

He didn't look back. With one final biotic charge, he hurled himself into the ocean.

Lunging and diving deep into the cold salty water. It swallowed him instantly. Jasen's lungs were steady, and his muscles no were near tired, he felt like they were barley even warmed up, as he swam toward the distant glow of the mainland.

Above the surface, drones swept the waves with searchlights. They found nothing.

On the island, Captain Stone stood in the rain as reports streamed in.

"Doctor Kline, Subject 13 has escaped. We're deploying aerial drones for marine scans, but the ocean conditions are unfavorable."

Dr. Kline didn't look up from her desk. "What about Korgath?"

"Killed. Took ten men to do it."

"And Vorath?"

"Still missing. Likely already off the island."

Kline's lips curved slightly as she lifted her glass of blue liquor to her lips. She type a message on her terminal, and sent the message. The receiver, the Illusive Man.

Subject 13 has escaped the facility.

The reply came back within seconds.

Phase Two has officially commences.

Hours later, Jasen dragged himself onto a rocky shoreline. His body was soaked, his muscles screaming, and his breathing was heavy, considering he held his breath under water while swimming for two and half hours. That was a small price, he reached into his water proof bag and began chewing on one nutrient bar and one protein bar.

As the food entered his body, feeding his body, and curving his appetite. His vision began to scan the unfamiliar terrain. the streets, lights, towering structures. It was al familiar in a sense, very Earth style, but with a twist of more technology in some areas.

Jasen noticed a small group of people gathering around the area. They were human and wore typical human fashion, with a mix of clothes he remembered from the games.

As people stared at the boy in the white facility uniform who had emerged from the sea. Alot of people began to murmur, and question what was going on.

Jasen began to run again, following the road until a massive structure loomed into view. He recognized it anywhere. It was the Elizabeth Tower or Big Ben, some people like to call it.

Which means only one thing. I'm in London. Which means I'm on Earth. Oh God I'm on Earth. Jasen began to breathe in and out slow and hard. His chest untightened with a sense of relieve. But Jasen didn't stop, no he couldn't stop, not yet.

He kept running full speed. He was free and he was gonna make sure no one ever stole his freedom again.

Jasen slipped into the alleyways, vanishing into the city's shadows. He knew had three new priorities. Finding shelter. Finding some new clothes. And finding a library the fountain of Information.

Now his new life on this world is truly about to begin. Then he has to prepare for the reapers.
