Ameila fell into the hole. Her body slammed hard against the ground, and a sharp pain shot through her as she landed painfully on her butt.
"Ah—" she groaned, wincing as she rubbed the sore spot. Her breath came out shaky, but she was alive. That alone felt like a miracle.
She slowly pushed herself up and turned around. The moment she saw what lay behind her, her body froze.
Skulls and bones.
They were scattered across the floor, human skulls, animal bones, broken, cracked, piled endlessly like a sea of death. Ameila staggered back in horror, her foot hitting something solid. She looked down, her stomach twisting when she realized she was standing on bones.
Not just a few.
An endless ocean of skulls and skeletal remains stretched as far as her eyes could see.
Her breath hitched.
Huge, rusted chains hung in the air above, swaying slightly as if stirred by an unseen force. The sound of metal creaking echoed faintly through the space, making her tremble.
