Amelia stood frozen. Her feet felt rooted to the floor as she stared at the scene before her.
Emily was kissing another woman.
For a moment, Amelia thought her eyes were playing tricks on her. Her chest tightened painfully as she raised both hands and rubbed her eyes hard, as if wiping away an illusion.
When she looked again, they were still there. Still kissing.
Maybe it's better if Emily doesn't see me, Amelia thought. I shouldn't be here.
She turned slowly, careful not to draw attention, ready to slip away quietly…
"Ameila?"
Emily's voice cut through the noise.
Amelia stopped in her tracks.
Her shoulders stiffened as she turned back nervously, forcing a smile onto her lips.
"Oh" she said softly, her voice shaking despite her effort to sound casual. "You girls can continue. I didn't mean to interrupt."
