He stood beside me, watching my face with the quiet intensity of a man who had planned this moment for weeks and was now holding his breath to see if it landed.
"I thought you might want to come back here," he said softly.
I blushed, immediately thinking of what had happened here.
A chirping sound came from somewhere near my feet.
I looked down to find a sif sitting in the grass, and looking directly up at us. It chirped again, then pranced forward and pressed its tiny nose against my ankle.
I had never seen them come out of the willow forest like this.
I smiled, crouching down to carry it. It nuzzled against my arm.
I looked up at Rowan. "It's beautiful. Thank you."
His face immediately brightened, and it made me so happy. His lips widened in a boyish grin, and he grabbed my face to plant a kiss on my lips before heading back to the carriage.
The sif hopped out of my grasp at the sudden movement.
