They left their meal and started moving towards me, their gait awkward but fast as they closed the distance with terrifying speed.
Darnel turned and ran.
No hesitation. No attempt to fight. Just pure survival instinct sending him bolting in the opposite direction.
Rage flooded through me.
I wasn't going to die here. Especially not alone!
I lashed out with my wounded arm and reached for Darnel's retreating form. I didn't know how I moved that fast or even closed the distance between us, but my hands were suddenly locked around his hind leg, gripping with a strength that wasn't there before.
The gnawing pain of my flesh dangling off the bone in chunks fuelled a desperate strength that made me latch onto him.
I would not let him go!
He tried to jerk away, tried to shake me off, but I held on.
Blood sprayed from my severed arm with the effort, coating us both, but I refused to let the rotten bastard go.
