"Every time a Digimon performs an Armor Digivolution into a different form, it's actually rewriting and replacing its internal data. Modern-spec Digimon can't withstand that many data rewrites. If you force it, their core will collapse, and the Digimon will die completely, without even a chance to be reborn in Primary Village." Tai warned them.
"Primary Village? What's that place?" Yolei asked again.
"That's where Digimon are born. Every Digimon that dies will be reborn there." Joe answered for Tai.
"But if they're all Armor-level, why is Darcmon so much stronger than Flamedramon, Digmon, Halsemon and Pegasusmon?" Izzy finally voiced the question that had been bothering him.
"Even among Armor forms, how much power you can draw out depends on how the Digimon uses that armor."
"But Gatomon just Armor Digivolved for the first time too." Davis hurried to say.
"Each Digi-Egg is different, and the power it can unleash is different too. A powerful Digi-Egg and the right Digimon can draw out strength not inferior to, or even surpassing, Mega level. The material the Digi-Egg is made from also affects how much power it can output.
The Digi-Egg of Light is made from Huanglong Ore, the companion mineral of the legendary Huanglongmon. It's the strongest material recorded in the history of the Digital World. That's why Gatomon can fight at such a high level. Once she gets used to the power of the Digi-Armor of Light, drawing out Ultimate-level strength will be easy for her. As for reaching true Mega-level power… that won't be so simple."
"What? Why does Kari's Digi-Egg get made from such a powerful material? And Tai, how do you even know all this?" Davis grumbled at the unfairness first, then immediately caught the key point. Yolei and Cody also stared at Tai, clearly hoping for an answer.
"Oh, that? Because I made it. Of course Kari's Digi-Egg had to be the best." Tai replied like it was the most natural thing in the world.
"What? You made her Digi-Egg? Then why didn't you use Huanglong Ore for ours too?" Davis asked, unwilling to accept it.
"After Huanglongmon was sealed away by the ancient angels, Huanglong Ore basically vanished from the Digital World. The little bit I used to forge Kari's Crest of Light came from a small amount the Four Holy Beasts kindly donated. That was all of it, and it's long gone now.
So Davis, stop obsessing over it and just focus on training Veemon. Once he really gets used to using the Digi-Eggs, he'll be able to draw out a lot more power." Tai comforted him.
"The Four Holy Beasts?" Cody asked curiously.
Izzy thought for a moment, then said, "We've never actually met the Four Holy Beasts, but we've heard of them. They used to be the Digital World's guardian deities, protecting the four quarters of the world. They're all Mega-level Digimon, and far stronger than regular Megas. That's about all I know."
"The Four Holy Beasts really were the guardians of the Digital World once," Tai took over again, "but they aren't anymore. These days, what keeps the Digital World stable are the Holy Stones."
"Holy Stones?" Everyone was hearing the name for the first time.
"Yeah. There are seven Holy Stones in total, guarding the Digital World's sky, plains, mountains, oceans, canyons, and cities—and the last one is responsible for the world's light."
"That sounds amazing. I wonder if we'll ever get to see them." Yolei sighed.
"The Holy Stones don't appear in the Digital World under normal circumstances, unless the world's stability is threatened. Izzy, why don't you tell them our story." Tai said at last, turning to Izzy.
"Right. Our story really starts with that unforgettable summer camp three years ago.
That day, it suddenly started snowing. After the snow came the aurora, and our Digivices appeared along with that aurora. After that, we went to File Island in the Digital World. That's where we met Tentomon and the others and defeated Devimon, who was controlling File Island.
Then, following Gennai's instructions, we went to the Server Continent to find the Crests and Tags that allowed further evolution, and we defeated Etemon there. After that, we followed Myotismon back to the Human World to find Kari, and in Odaiba we teamed up to defeat VenomMyotismon."
"Odaiba? You mean that time three years ago when all those monsters took over Odaiba?" Davis suddenly blurted out.
Everyone stared at him in surprise.
"I was there back then too. I was herded into a stadium with a whole bunch of ghost-like Digimon and tons of kids. The adults tried to work together to find a way to escape, but then a huge dinosaur started fighting a cactus, and the cactus digivolved into a small humanoid and beat that black dinosaur. After that, a gigantic firebird showed up.
I don't remember anything after that. When I woke up, the news said Tokyo Bay had practically turned into ruins." Davis recalled.
"That cactus was Mimi's Togemon. She then digivolved further into her Ultimate form, Lillymon. That firebird was my Birdramon." Sora explained gently for Davis.
"And Tokyo Bay ended up a wasteland because of the battle between VenomMyotismon, Tai's WarGreymon, and my MetalGarurumon. A clash between three Mega-level Digimon has a ridiculous blast radius." Matt added.
"At this point, I really have to ask—what exactly are 'Ultimate' and 'Mega'?" Cody interjected from the side.
"Ultimate is the form beyond Champion, and Mega is a further evolution beyond Ultimate. Back on the Server Continent, the Tags and Crests we found were to let Tentomon and the others evolve further." Izzy explained.
T.K. also told Davis and the others, "Back then, our enemies were way stronger than what you're facing now. Even just at Mega level there were VenomMyotismon, the Dark Masters, MetalEtemon, and our final enemy, Apocalymon."
"Yeah. Our team of eight kids was really strong back then. We had two Megas, and six Ultimates… but now…" Kari trailed off and fell silent. Everyone's expressions dimmed with her.
"Uh… uh…" Davis looked around, not understanding why the room had suddenly gone so quiet. "So why don't you have them anymore?"
"Davis!" Yolei snapped, scolding him for his complete lack of tact.
"It's not that complicated," Izzy said, trying to smooth things over. "Do you remember the battle on the internet three years ago? A Digimon appeared online and started devouring data, evolving like crazy.
Agumon and Tentomon went out first, but instead of defeating it, their attacks were absorbed and used as energy so it could evolve. After that, WarGreymon, MetalGarurumon, Angewomon, MegaKabuterimon, Garudamon and MagnaAngemon all attacked together and still couldn't destroy it.
The enemy evolved into a Mega and started mass-producing more copies of itself. Even when Omnimon appeared, he still couldn't erase over several hundred thousand Diaboromon." Izzy said, still clearly shaken by the memory.
"I know that battle! Not only was Omnimon insanely strong, he looked super cool too. But after that, another Digimon showed up who looked even cooler than Omnimon." Yolei said excitedly.
Everyone's gaze turned to Tai.
"Sorry, but that 'other Digimon' you saw was me." Tai said expressionlessly.
"No way." Yolei, who had seen that battle, stared at him, jaw dropping wide enough to fit an egg. "Tai, you… you were that… that…" She couldn't even find the words.
"No wonder you could block those Digimon's attacks by yourself that day, and even open a gate to the Digital World." Davis said, like everything finally made sense.
Yolei pressed both hands to her forehead, as if she really couldn't handle this.
"But that battle burned through a terrifying amount of energy. And afterwards, repairing the Digital World consumed the last of our Crest power. So I'm nowhere near as strong as I was back then. Even just blocking those attacks earlier already pushed me really hard."
Davis, however, was still as fired up as ever. "Tai, where are the rest of the Digi-Eggs? Come on, hand them over! I can't wait to see what other Armor forms Veemon can get!"
Tai chuckled. "You're just as full of energy as always, Davis. The Digi-Eggs of Friendship, Sincerity and Reliability are somewhere in the Digital World. As for the Digi-Eggs of Destiny, Kindness and Darkness, no one knows when they'll show up.
But the Digi-Egg of Miracles is with me right now."
"Then hurry up and give it to me!" Davis leaned in, unable to wait.
Tai could only give him a helpless look. "Even if I handed it over right now, do you really think Veemon could control it? You haven't even fully drawn out the power of the Digi-Egg of Courage yet.
And on top of that, the Digi-Egg of Miracles is still being repaired. It was badly damaged in the fight against Diaboromon. Once it's fully restored, I'll pass it on to you."
"Aw, come on, seriously?" Davis slumped like he'd just been defeated.
"Honestly, Davis…" Kari couldn't help but laugh, and the others soon followed her lead.
Warm laughter filled the whole apartment and drifted out into the night.
Meanwhile, in a dark room somewhere else, the glow of a computer screen lit up Ken's face, twisted with malice as he ground his teeth.
"Those annoying brats… just you wait. I'll control Perfect-level Digimon and crush every last one of you pests."
On the monitor, a Dark Ring icon was displayed, surrounded by line after line of analysis data. Ken's fingers kept hammering the keyboard as he continued his work, obsessively plotting to conquer the Digital World.
