Layana pushed the door to Zayden's room and she barged in. "Brother!" she exclaimed. Once again happy that she was seeing him after a while. But again, her smiles disappeared when she saw he was dressed to leave again.
"Where are you going?" she asked.
"Hi, Yana" he said instead.
"That is not the answer to my question. You're going to meet her again, right?"
"What's your problem?"
"I am jealous" she began to yell "You always go out and spend your whole time with that human, forgetting you have a baby sister here who needs attention. You're a really bad brother, I tell you"
"I thought you were busy spying?" Zayden asked her, and she frowned even more. She walked to the couch and sat on it.
"This human... I can see you love her." He stayed quiet, and she nodded. "Did you tell her how you feel?"
"Not yet" he answered .
"So you're going to tell her today eh? Goodluck"
"Thank you" he was quick to say and Layana twitched her lips.
"I brought some news."
"I'm listening"
"I spoke with general Mathias, and offered him a friendship hand"
"What? Why would you do that?"
"We need him" she simply said
"Yana, he's our enemy!"
"He's not. He's not a friend either, that why I decided to make him on our side. Imagine that, it would be a big game for us"
"You don't know this guy. What if he stabs you in the back?"
"He won't...."
"Don't be so confident, it's getting me sick. This man is the son of our enemy...."
"It doesn't make him an enemy"
"Seriously,Yana. You're now defending him? "
"I'm not. But we really need him on our side. He knows a lot that can be of help to us."
"Yana.... It's okay if you don't do anything. Just leave it to me I'll handle it"
"Leave it you?! You?! Your brain now is clouded with that human that you forgot your sister, and you're saying I should leave it to you? I know you won't do anything, rather than sneaking out from this world and meeting your human lover. So let me handle things. I really can't sit back and watch my brothers die"
"Wow..." Zayden breathed out, "Baby Yana's all grown up." he joked and she flipped her hair back. "But I'm just saying, I don't want you putting your trust in this guy. He might stab you in the back"
"Even if he does, I'm wearing thick armours. The weapon won't pass through"
"Whoa...!!! You're really grown. So I'll just leave, there's no need tending to grown up Yana now" he made his way to the door. But the next moment, a strong force pulled him back and flung him to the couch.
"Ouch!" he groaned out.
"I'm not done" Layana said "We still haven't talked about brother Ryan. When are going to see him anyway? I really miss him so much"
"You can go and let me be"
"Ah! You remember? Brother Ryan's birthday is next week. We should give him a surprise visit" she squealed, clapping her hands like a kid.
"Sounds nice. So if you would let me..." he made his way to the door again. Layana glared hard at him, her eyes turning red and her fangs elongating "Yana, I promise, if you let me go... we'll go see Ryan next week"
"Really?" she beamed.
"Yes, yes" he nodded "I promise you. You know you can't really go without my permission, so I'm promising we'll go"
"Okay. Get lost now" she stood up and pushed him out the door. Zayden scoffed. Seriously! But anyway, he left before she would change her mind.
*....*...*...*
Under the tinted orange sky, the duo walked slowly together. A gentle breeze blew passed them, sweeping Jana's hair to her face. Her scent found its way to his nostrils. She smells like mint. While he... Jana wondered what he smelt like. It was different, she couldn't decipher. Sometimes, he smells like earth. Other times, he smells like winter. Cold. And other times, he smells like summer. Warm and relaxing. He was mixed up, and she wondered why.
They were just talking about random things, and how the upcoming winter would be for them. This time, she could smell it. He now smells like winter.
They talked about a few things for a while before Zayden changed the topic to the second most important one right now.
"That demon...." he began "Does he still meet with you?"
"It's been a while since I saw him. He doesn't seem to bother me much anymore. It's a relief" she smiled.
"He would come back. This time with more things to make you give you in. That's how the devil works... demons" Zayden spoke.
Jana turned and looked his way. "You seem to know more about them. Can you teach me?"
"Ah... that. I...watched fantasy movies when I was younger, so I know a little" he lied, and then bit his lips.
"Still you can teach me. I want to be prepared incase he comes again" Jana said and he just nodded.
"But if things get hard, would you do it?" he asked.
"I rather die" she replied. "I won't give in and kill people I don't know. I wonder why he even chose me. It's not like I can kill a fly" Zayden laughed, showing a perfect set of white teeth. Ah... his laughs are pleasant to the ears.
"You told he seems very friendly. What if he likes you" he teased, and she frowned hard.
"What? I'm just stating a fact"
"Why would a demon like me?" Good question. "And why should I care? I would never be with a demon. Never!"
His smile faded, "So you mean...you would never love a demon?"
"Never! If the world was left the ugliest man and one beautiful demon, I'll choose the ugly man and live happily. I can't imagine my life with a demon"
Zayden caught his lower lip between his teeth, he bit on it hard. Stupid! He cursed at himself. What was he thinking? She would accept him? He's a demon!! A demon prince! She would never. Why did he even ask? He shouldn't have asked. He should have just went on with his...
"Why do you ask, anyway?" Jana broke his thoughts, and he released his lips slowly.
"I.. I don't know. I guess I was feeling a bit... insecure" he said.
"Why?"
"Uhm... well, because.... Demons are really beautiful and irresistible, so I felt ... since this beautiful demon always meets you... I felt...I felt I would be late when I tell you"
Jana stared at him. His gaze and words made her nervous. "T-tell me what?" she asked.
"Tell you that I..." he paused, biting his lower lip again that he could feel it bleed. He licked his lips and the bruise heeled immediately. "That I..." the words were heavy. His heart thudded against his chest. His breathing became shallow or maybe he wasn't even breathing. Jana waited, with her heart racing. What was he going to say?
"That, I love you, Kim Jana"
