Zainab was currently losing her mind because Hassan had returned to play the part of the patriarch. Hassan had Xavier's face, but he didn't have that soul. He didn't have that calm, king-like presence that could steady a room during a ruin. He was just arrogant, playful, and aloof—a cheap imitation of the man who could own a room just by the mention of his name.


I played the recording Xavier left me to calm my nerves. It worked for a minute, brightening my face just long enough for the gloom to hit harder when the silence returned.
