At Wald Pictures, Zane, Kevin Fitch, Zack Snyder, and all the main bosses for the 300 movie gathered for one last big meeting.
"Zack, you're the film's director, so why don't you go first?" Zane said. He took a sip from a cup of tea filled with goji berries. (Goji berries are a healthy fruit!)
Even though Zane was only 21, he had been feeling a little tired. He'd been "resting" for two months, which really meant he'd been having too much fun. So, he was drinking the healthy tea to feel better.
"Since Mr. Blackwood has spoken, let me begin," Zack Snyder said. He was never shy. "Everyone, we need to be clear on one thing about 300 Spartans. We are not filming a true history story. We are making a movie based on a comic book by the master, Frank Miller."
Everyone in the room nodded. This was a very important point. A real history story would be complicated. But a comic book story was different.
"In the comic book," Zack said, his voice serious, "there have to be good guys and bad guys. It's simple. So, when we film 300, we must make the Spartans the heroes and the Persians the villains. If we don't, the audience won't like it. The story must be simple, clear, and exciting. This is the main theme."
Zane strongly agreed. He remembered watching the movie in his old life. The movie was exciting, but it had made the Persians look like weird, evil monsters. And the Persian king, Xerxes, was portrayed as a silly, arrogant guy who only wore... underwear.
Darn, Zane thought, that was just an insult to my brain!
He thought, "Can you imagine a great king or emperor going to battle wearing only underpants? That's just crazy! It would look so silly."
When he first watched the movie, Zane had complained about it. He didn't understand why the director, Zack Snyder, would make such a low-level mistake.
But after living in this new life for two years, Zane finally understood.
"The United States and Western countries practice 'happy education,'" he thought. "They make a lot of smart leaders, but they also make even more regular guys who just want a simple story."
"If you make the story too complicated, how can those regular guys understand it?"
"So," he realized, "you need to have clear good guys and bad guys, just like in the comic. You can't expect to make a lot of money if you don't!"
Zane also knew this would make some people angry. Some people from Middle Eastern countries might feel like the movie was being mean to them.
But, he thought, the movie's main audience is in America and Europe.
He knew that even though people say they want "equality," they still want to see heroes that look like them. It was a sad truth.
"So," Director Zack Snyder said, "how can we make an exciting movie without making everyone mad? We need to get the audience's attention. The more people who argue about the movie, the more people will want to buy a ticket to see what all the fuss is about."
Kevin Fitch, the vice president, nodded. "Yes. We are a business. We need to make a profit. Our job is to earn more money at the box office."
Zane nodded, too. He wasn't really worried about all that. He just wanted to make a great movie... and make a lot of money.
At the end of the meeting, Kevin brought up one more important topic: Muscles!
"To make 300 Spartans exciting," Kevin said, "and to get female audiences interested... all the actors have to be muscular. I'm talking about the main stars, the supporting actors, and all the extras. We need to highlight those muscles. We need at least 100 to 300 muscular men."
The team had two ideas for this. First, only hire actors who already had big muscles. Second, hire good actors and then send them to the gym for six months.
"Haha!" At that moment, Zane, the boss, just laughed.
"Guys, guys, don't make it so complicated," Zane said with a big, charming smile. "You've all been so busy planning the movie that you haven't seen the news from my TV network, UPN."
"We're about to launch a brand-new show. We're bringing WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) to our channel. And you know what those guys are? They're all a bunch of giant, muscular monsters with amazing bodies!"
Zack and Kevin just stared at him. They were stunned. They never thought the problem they were worried about could be solved so simply!
Finding hundreds of muscular men who also looked good on camera was not easy.
Of course, the main actors would still need to be real actors with skills, and they would still need to go to the gym. But for all the 300 soldiers... this was perfect! It would save them so much time and money.
Zane smiled. "See? We just have to work smart."
