Chapter 63 - A Seat At The Table

There were three tables, placed in a "U" shape.

That was the first thing I noticed when we sat down.

Not because it seemed unique or systematic—far from it, because what it represented was distance. That distance meant hierarchy here. Seats weren't chosen by anyone, but they were assigned by their role inside the family.

At the last seat of the left table, my place was assigned, and from there, I could almost see everyone, and the same went for the others.

And unfortunately, the seat beside me was taken by Miren. At least, he was quiet for now. The reason was obvious, though.

Raising my head, I looked at the middle table. It was smaller than the rest, but it was for a reason. Everyone at that table, was the owner of one of Kingsley's businesses, and in the middle sat Mrs. Kingsley.

And my eyes fell on Alina, cold as ever. Every part of her body spoke of hostility—unlike others, who were smiling and conversing happily.

No wonder she didn't have anyone on her side.
