Saya Takagi POV
She was in her mother's room, and they were simply hugging... trying to comfort each other. Her mother kept murmuring apologies while she herself insisted that she had already forgiven her and didn't need to apologize anymore.
They had reconciled only a few minutes ago, but it seemed as if her mother had truly fallen into a quiet hysteria, still occasionally muttering words of forgiveness.
"I... forgive me, Saya... for being such a terrible mother to you..." Her voice trembled slightly as she spoke, and the sincerity mixed with remorse in her tone was palpable.
"Mom, I already said that..." She scoffed, trying to chase away the tears and calm down. "That I've already forgiven you. P-perhaps it will take time to fully do it... but I think we'll have plenty of time..."
"I don't think so... You want to leave with your friends, don't you? E-especially with that boy... Isao." Her mother stroked her back.
"Yes, I... I wanted to talk about that, Mom. We must leave. Not just me with his people, but you, Dad, and everyone you've found." Saya's voice was serious, and her mother had also more or less composed herself, wiping away her tears.
"Why? Did something happen?" She looked at Saya with concern, not understanding the reason for such seriousness.
"Mom, we encountered some kind of creature when we were driving to the hospital to pick up the fathers of two girls. There, we... we met a zombie that had evolved. It was strong and incredibly huge, and even at first glance, you could tell its skin was tough."
"More details?" Now, her mother was fully composed, looking at her seriously, listening attentively.
"I can't describe it in more detail. Isao dealt with it in a few seconds, but even before that, that giant sent him flying with one punch, using his body like a projectile and breaking the guard booth." Saya looked worriedly at her mother, who was deep in thought. "I don't even think your containment method will work. We haven't tried shooting it with the weapons we have, but I don't think it's worth checking; it's dangerous."
"I don't know, Saya. Your father won't leave this estate..."
"Mom! This is a matter of life and death! This is only one type of evo-zombie! What if there are more of them and their variety increases! Dad won't even be able to do anything! He'll just destroy all that wire and those walls like toys!"
"And what about your boyfriend?" Saya blushed when her mother mentioned Isao, but she wasn't embarrassed. Isao was her boyfriend, and she was his girlfriend, and everything was fine.
"What about him?" She raised an eyebrow, looking at her with flushed cheeks.
"Your father... he wants to recruit Isao. The people who were with me this morning have already told him that Isao can control Metal, after he completes one task, he will call Isao to his office to talk... But before that, he'll call..."
"Me." Saya froze, thinking furiously. Her father would definitely question her about how Isao's mysterious powers work. He would ask everything and anything, perhaps even want to know his weak points, and she would have to tell him.
But... she wouldn't tell. He could pray for that, but even so she wouldn't do that. She was Isao's girlfriend and would be loyal to him like his wife. Even though Souichiro Takagi was her father, she wouldn't answer his questions about Isao's powers.
"I see. That's how he wants to do it..." Saya nodded slightly, understanding her father's plan.
"Yes, first he's going to question you about his powers, and then he might try to persuade him. And you know how far your father is willing to go if Isao doesn't obey him." Her mother's voice was serious, but Saya scoffed at this.
"He wouldn't dare. Isao might only be finishing school this year, but he can also be firm. If it weren't for that, he would never have been able to save anyone."
"It seems there's a story here..." Her mother looked at her with interest.
"From the very beginning of the apocalypse, he was the one commanding everyone we met and saved. Everyone believes him implicitly, because he has already proven that he doesn't care what he has to do if it means saving his people." She remembered Yamada, his friend, and Shido. "When we were escaping the school, Shido tried to tag along..."
"Koichi Shido? Ichiro Shido's son?" Her mother looked at her with concern, as the Shido family was well-known to her family and their people.
"Yes, that bastard..." She remembered Saki's tormented gaze, the poor girl. "Isao... he knew what kind of person Shido was and..."
"Judging by the fact that he's not with all your people now... he most likely personally killed Shido. I... can respect him for staining his hands with crimson to get rid of a parasite before it latched onto the organism."
"That's not all. It turned out Shido had convinced the students with him that once they reached his father, they would be rewarded by having all the women become their slaves. Fortunately, only two of the older students believed him, and Isao kicked them off the bus on the way."
"That's... very strong of him. Not many high school students would have had the resolve to do something like that in his place." Her mother sounded shocked and slightly admiring.
[Made an excellent impression on Yuriko Takagi]
[Silver Ticket]
What the hell?
"So yes, he is also a good leader, and I trust him. So please, Mom, come with me. It will be easier with Isao."
"I... I will try to talk your father into it, Saya. Unfortunately, I have little influence." Her mother smiled sadly at her, making Saya bite her lower lip.
"I'll tell Isao. He wouldn't dare leave so many people behind..."
"It will be difficult for him to take so many people. We have over 50 people here. If he wants to do that, he'll have to find another bus to fit everyone, but... at least we already have transport to take all the supplies and weapons we have."
"That will be a problem for Isao... but he'll figure it out. I believe..."
"Ah, are you that in love with him?" Saya blushed.
Was she in love with Isao? Yes. Without a doubt. He was a caring and attentive man. He was handsome and strong; he was simply perfect. Maybe he was slightly perverted, as she saw how Saeko looked yesterday after their "outing," but... she didn't care. A man like Isao would inevitably have several women; after all, they needed to check if his powers would pass on to his children.
"Yes, he is incredible." Her voice probably sounded like a little lovesick girl right now... but she didn't mind.
"Oh, I saw, Saya. He looks quite daring!" Her mother gave her a conspiratorial smile that sent shivers down her spine.
"He's my boyfriend, Mom! You have Dad!" She backed away from her mother and pointed at her accusingly, which made her mother laugh.
"I don't think your father would worry about that, if it helps take control of Isao..." She smiled a wicked, perverse smile, causing Saya to open her eyes wide in horror.
"Mom! I'll get angry at you again!"
Her mother's laughter echoed in the room for a long time, making her fear for her boyfriend, as it seemed her mother had turned into a puma.
Isao Tsumugi POV
I watched the screen floating in front of me with some surprise. It was cool to get a Silver Ticket out of nowhere, but it was probably the work of Saya praising me to her mother.
The main thing was that she wasn't sharing anything too personal, but she was a smart girl, and she wouldn't do that. I believed in it.
[Do you wish to use all tickets?]
All tickets? Do I have more than one?
[1 Bronze Ticket, 1 Silver Ticket]
Oh, I don't even remember when I got the Bronze Ticket, but since I have it, use both! Give me something useful!
[Bountiful Harvest]
|Common Ability|
You are able to create ripe and tasty fruits and vegetables by expending your own energy.
[Novice Polearm Mastery]
|Common Skill|
You are reasonably talented in handling polearms such as spears, halberds or scythes. You know how to smack with the long stick, how to cut with the blade at the end of the long stick, you know how to tab people with the pointy end of the long stick, and that is enough for most people.
I was speechless with shock at the first ability I received from the Bronze Ticket.
I replaced Soul Reading, which was in the second slot, with Bountiful Harvest. I slightly held out my hand and concentrated, thinking of an apple.
Feeling a tiny, incredibly small part of my energy drain away, I watched in surprise as an apple appeared in my hand.
It was fresh, smelled incredibly delicious. I brought it closer and bit into it, my eyes widening at how sweet the apple was. I began to devour it with pleasure.
"Damn... there's no way I can avoid being called a Kami now..."
But was that so bad? After all, with time, with the growth of my followers, abilities, and traits, I would definitely become some kind of minor god. Wouldn't it be better to accelerate this event and gain more abilities by creating a cult that would definitely be considered an incredibly good Feat?
Most likely, I'd be given a Gold or even Platinum Ticket for founding a cult, and then I'd gradually receive tickets based on the growth rate of my followers... most likely.
But for that, there needed to be a person who would start pushing this idea to the masses, and it seemed I knew who would be quite good for this.
Taking control of a Crow sitting on the roof, I looked down, where Oegi was. Yes... from the very beginning, Oegi's eyes burned with fanaticism. I was sure he was ready to spread the word of my divinity to the masses.
But I remembered Mom and my little sister... perhaps it would sound terrible, but for their sake and their safety, I would create a cult in my honor and receive tickets from it.
I should also think about sleeping with several women to get tickets. With Saeko alone, I got 4-5 Silver Tickets, but if I slept with a few more—say, four—and introduced them all to each other? Then I'd likely get over 20 Silver Tickets and 1 Gold Ticket for creating a small harem.
It was awful to think that... it wasn't just awful; it was repulsive... but looking at the new, fresh apple in my hand? Maybe it would be worth it.
I was tired of being reactive. I was tired of waiting for something to happen and then having to work on solving the problem.
It's better to take the initiative, to acquire more abilities, to gain more traits, and in this way, work on creating a safer place, somewhere these damned zombies won't reach. And I just remembered one thing.
I shouldn't only think about my mother and sister, but also about a bunch of other people, two of whom were especially important: Saya and the mother of my children, Saeko. In seven or nine months, I'd have small versions of me and Saeko who would call us "Dad" and "Mom," and for them, I had to do everything.
And remaining reactive is a very stupid thing to do. That doesn't mean I'll immediately go rape women and create a dozen cults, but it's better to quickly create several important plans and put them into action.
So... hmm?
I was distracted. Several vehicles started arriving from the street: one jeep and one sedan, both with tinted windows, several bikes, one medium-sized cargo truck, and a tanker truck, which most likely held either fuel or water.
And a man stepped out of the jeep. He was tall by Japanese standards, but shorter than me, dressed in a black uniform and holding a sword. His face looked like he hadn't taken a dump in several days, and he was suffering from constipation right now.
That man was Souichiro, fucking, Takagi.
And the way his people were setting up a stage in front of the flag standing before the mansion didn't sit well with me. He was about to do some stupid shit that would scare away the civilians. I was damn sure of it, this damn cretin.
The civilians started coming out of the tents. Seeing the children, I realized it would be better for their mothers to move their little ones away from there. The civilians began gathering in front of the stage, next to the truck.
And I was right about Souichiro doing some shit. Using equipment from the truck, they pulled out a damn cage with a zombie inside.
Fuck. Let this cretin not do what I think he's going to do. Ordinary people still weren't used to the fact that a fucked-up zombie apocalypse had happened. They still couldn't believe it, and if Souichiro showed them a zombie and then killed it, he would simply be considered a crazy bastard, even if he was popular in Japan.
"Isao!" I heard someone rush into the room with my human ear, but I continued to sit with my eyes closed. "Saya's father..."
"I know, Takashi. Don't interrupt. Right now, I'm watching all of this from a bird's-eye view."
"Oh... okay..."
"Gather our people. Tell them to be ready. We leave in half an hour or an hour, if I can't convince this guy to come with us." I might not like Souichiro Takagi, but he could be useful—not him personally, of course, but his equipment, his people, and their discipline would be incredibly beneficial, especially since I'd most likely create my own community that would slowly grow.
I saw Souichiro start walking onto the stage and prepared to watch him scare away all the people he himself had saved. What a cretin.
