The gravel of the driveway crunched under my shoes as I stormed away from Cassian's villa.
The morning air was sharp, biting straight through my jacket, but it was nothing compared to the absolute, suffocating fire tearing through my chest.
I wanted to scream. I wanted to tear my own hair out. I wanted to crawl into a hole and die of sheer, unadulterated embarrassment.
'What the fuck was wrong with me?'
I kept walking, my pace turning into a fast, frantic stomp as I cursed myself out loud, my voice shaking in the empty street.
'What is wrong with you?' I screamed at my own reflection in a parked car's window. 'What kind of pathetic, masochistic idiot are you?'
I could have gone home. After leaving the hotel room, after waking up to a man who actually looked at me like I hung the stars, a man who had kissed my forehead and asked me out on a second date, I could have gone straight back to my apartment.
