"Naruto: Ice God"Chapter 145: Summoning Contract
"I wonder if this kid has any talent."
Looking at the Slug Sage's massive true form, Tsunade casually found a rock to sit on, waiting for the Slug Sage's answer.
"Even if he doesn't have talent, for Lady Tsunade's sake, I'll still sign a contract with this little one~"
Lounging beside Tsunade, the slug clone looked quite content as it gazed at its enormous main body.
"It's been a long time since I've seen you worry so much about a young person, Lady Tsunade."
The slug teased playfully.
Recalling Hiruzen's earlier words, Tsunade gave a self-deprecating smile: "Maybe it's just like the old man said—people always have a soft spot for geniuses."
Another stretch of silence fell.
After waiting a long time without seeing Feng Bai expelled by the Slug Sage, Tsunade finally relaxed: "Looks like that kid's lucky—he can absorb sage chakra."
Standing up, Tsunade dusted herself off: "By the way, the mist here is as thick as ever, Slug."
"I think it's nice—adds a sense of mystery."
The slug didn't see anything wrong with it, raising its head to look at Tsunade: "Are you leaving?"
"Yeah, I have... things I must do." Disguising her gambling plans as important business, Tsunade maintained perfect composure as she turned and strode away stylishly.
After an unknown amount of time in the sticky darkness, Feng Bai finally opened his eyes.
"Ah, you're awake."
The moment he opened his eyes, Feng Bai heard the slug's voice and felt the slimy sensation on his face.
"..."
With a sudden sit-up, the sticky feeling on his face instantly vanished, replaced by the sound of something heavy hitting the ground.
"Ow, ow, ow..."
The little slug that had been flung away let out a pitiful whimper.
"Ah? I'm terribly sorry, Lady Slug!"
Only then did Feng Bai realize what had happened. He scrambled to his feet and rushed toward where the slug had fallen.
For some reason, he felt unusually light on his feet.
And there seemed to be something behind his head impeding his movement.
Picking up the slug, Feng Bai was full of remorse: "I had no idea that was you on my face, Lady Slug. I'm so sorry!"
"It's fine, I'm used to it anyway. Lady Tsunade treats me like this all the time."
The slug spoke pitifully, but its wiggling little antennae betrayed its current mood.
This little guy is so amusing—much more interesting than Lady Tsunade.
Hearing the slug's words and matching them with its tone and manner, Feng Bai's guilt nearly overwhelmed him. Ignoring any physiological discomfort, he cradled the slug in both hands and kept apologizing.
Only after the slug had had enough fun did it jump down from Feng Bai's hands and slowly lead him forward.
Feng Bai finally had time to check what was behind his head. Reaching back, he discovered it was actually his own hair.
His already long hair had grown to trail on the ground like a skirt.
No way—he'd only taken a nap, so how had his hair grown so long?
Looking questioningly at the slug, who seemed to anticipate Feng Bai's confusion, it spoke directly: "Let's go. I'll explain everything to you slowly."
Hearing this, Feng Bai drew a kunai and, going by feel, slashed through his long hair with one stroke. The severed locks fell to the ground as he followed the slug's leisurely pace.
"Ah, what a shame. You looked much cuter with long hair."
Glancing back at Feng Bai, the slug's tone was full of regret.
"Please don't tease me, Lady Slug."
Feng Bai smiled and scratched his head. He couldn't possibly travel with hair that long.
One person and one slug slowly approached the "mountain range."
Only now did Feng Bai realize that what lay before them wasn't a mountain range at all, but a slug so enormous its end couldn't be seen.
"They say the Slug Sage's true form is incredibly massive. Seeing it today, it's certainly true..."
Feng Bai was genuinely awed, his mouth slightly agape.
"Heave-ho, heave-ho." Two small slugs pushed a massive scroll in front of Feng Bai.
"Sign it. Once you sign this summoning contract, you'll be able to summon parts of me."
Summoning?
Hearing this word, Feng Bai seemed to remember something.
What about my Baku?
Dad, you said before the war started that you'd let me sign a summoning contract with Baku. The war's been over for ages—where is it?
Wait, what about Isobu?
[Isobu, Isobu, are you there?]
Feng Bai closed his eyes, entering his consciousness space.
[Isobu: ...turns away, ignoring Feng Bai.]
[What's wrong?]
Seeing Isobu clearly sulking, Feng Bai cautiously probed.
[Isobu: ...]
[Isobu, Isobu dear, my beloved comrade, good partner?]
After trying several different forms of address without getting a response, Feng Bai had no idea how he'd offended him and could only keep apologizing.
[Isobu, I'm sorry. Please talk to me. If you keep staying silent, I won't know what I did wrong.]
[Isobu: ...]
Annoyed to the point where he couldn't sleep, Isobu finally turned around to look Feng Bai in the eye.
[Isobu: Liar.]
[?]
[Isobu: Big liar. You said we'd be close partners, but when you woke up, you didn't come find me first.]
So it's because of this?
Just how old are you exactly?!
Though he really wanted to complain about this, seeing Isobu preparing to turn away again, Feng Bai quickly called out to stop him.
[I was wrong, Isobu! I really was wrong! I absolutely won't do it again—I promise!]
[Isobu: Really?]
[Really! I swear on Obito's life—I absolutely won't do this again!]
[Isobu: Fine then. Go sign the contract with the slug.]
Isobu flicked his tail, ejecting Feng Bai from the consciousness space. Feng Bai could only smile bitterly as he looked at the scroll before him.
"Mm-hmm, is little Feng Bai talking with the tailed beast inside him?"
A small slug had somehow climbed onto Feng Bai's shoulder.
"You know about Isobu?"
Feng Bai was somewhat surprised.
"I don't know him, but when you were inside my body, I sensed that ominous chakra." Mentioning tailed beasts, the slug showed some natural fear.
"However, the tailed beast inside you didn't reject natural energy, which is why you were able to successfully complete your Sage Mode training."
"Oh, really..." Feng Bai responded while biting his finger and pressing it down.
Only then did he realize the enormous amount of information in the slug's words: "Wait, you're saying I completed Sage Mode training?"
"Yes?"
Wiggling its antennae, the slug nodded: "Calm your mind and feel—can you sense the natural energy flowing in the air?"
Hearing the slug say this, Feng Bai quickly quieted his mind and felt everything around him.
Sure enough, he could sense a completely new energy surrounding him.
"This is Shikkotsu Forest's learning method. Inside my body, you can calm your mind and truly become one with nature." The slug spoke with some pride.
"Is it really that simple? No risk at all..."
Opening his eyes, Feng Bai felt this seemed somewhat frivolous.
"Risk, you say..."
The slug's voice suddenly turned sinister, becoming strangely familiar—rather like a character from an anime he'd watched in his previous life.
The voice was very similar to a character named Ai Enma.
"Little Feng Bai, do you know why my true form is so enormous..."
"Wh-why..." Feng Bai swallowed nervously, afraid the next second she'd say something like "This grudge shall be ferried to hell."
"Because I've digested all the failures..."
"Eek!" Feng Bai felt his hair stand on end. So Shikkotsu Forest was this dangerous?!
The slug was very satisfied with Feng Bai's expression, quietly chuckling where he couldn't see.
Just kidding. But failures really do have it rough.
This is also why Tsunade didn't leave immediately.
