Chapter 110 - 《Naruto: Ice God》Chapter 110: Playing Awkward with Dad

"Naruto: Ice God"Chapter 110: Playing Awkward with Dad

Hearing his father indeed intended to move against the Akatsuki organization, Feng Bai quickly spoke up to stop him: "I believe that's inadvisable."

Seeing his son oppose him, Danzō didn't get angry. He remained seated calmly, watching Feng Bai with interest: "Let's hear it."

"Currently, Konoha is in wartime, yet Hanzō's Amegakure hasn't directly joined the conflict. Instead, they're allowing Iwagakure ninja passage to achieve their goal of using borrowed blades—proving the two sides don't fully trust each other yet."

"In the short term, Hanzō won't truly cooperate with Akatsuki. Conversely, we can exploit this. Before Hanzō makes his decision, we could contact them ourselves—see if we can make this organization serve Konoha, or support them in controlling Amegakure to stabilize the Land of Rain."

"A peaceful, controlled Land of Rain would be far more useful than a chaotic one, wouldn't it?"

Unable to convey all his thoughts to Danzō immediately, Feng Bai somewhat clumsily tried to communicate his general objectives.

"How can you guarantee that after Akatsuki controls Amegakure, they'll act according to your expectations rather than becoming another enemy like the other great nations?"

Danzō's tone was flat, revealing nothing of his true thoughts.

Feng Bai was stumped by Danzō's question.

Right—what made him so certain Akatsuki wouldn't oppose Konoha?

Wait, let me fabricate something...

As Feng Bai pondered how to answer Danzō's question, inspiration suddenly struck, and he blurted out: "Akatsuki's leader is very likely Jiraiya's student. Jiraiya told me this before assigning me this mission."

"I see. So you're relying on the tenuous bond of teacher and student?"

Danzō nodded, unsurprised that Feng Bai had brought up Jiraiya.

"But you should know—and can see—that in this so-called shinobi world, bonds aren't important. Ninja are driven by various reasons: profit, hatred. Most ninja are pragmatic. How can you be certain this so-called Akatsuki organization isn't the same?"

"Or perhaps Jiraiya's student does harbor goodwill toward Konoha because of Jiraiya—but what about those Rain ninja who've suffered attacks from Konoha ninja? What about civilians who've lost family members? Won't they use public opinion to force Jiraiya's student to change?"

Danzō's voice was unhurried, calmly describing all possibilities.

Feng Bai fell silent.

Danzō's words were realistic—everything he described could indeed happen, while Feng Bai was relying solely on his previous life's knowledge of the plot.

He truly had no solid grounds to refute Danzō's thinking.

Seeing Feng Bai stop speaking, Danzō didn't press him, instead watching his son, lost in thought.

His father seemed to be waiting for something...

Observing the silent Danzō, Feng Bai also realized something—this entire conversation felt deliberately arranged by his father, aimed at extracting something from him.

Damn, my head's itchy—am I about to grow a brain?

Feng Bai, who couldn't even be bothered with strategy during combat, naturally couldn't fathom Danzō's purpose. He could only frantically work his brain, trying to devise his next move.

"Because I believe. I believe in Jiraiya, Jiraiya believes in his student, and you believe in me. So I hope you'll hold off for now and let me make contact with them."

After struggling for ages, his face flushed from mental strain, Feng Bai managed only this response.

Seeing his son's cheeks redden from cognitive overload, Danzō nearly couldn't resist slapping him.

If anyone else had given such an idealistic answer in his presence, Danzō would definitely invite them to spend a few days in his special isolation chamber.

[Sigh, he has strength but his intelligence hasn't kept pace? Or has he spent too much time with Hiruzen, infected by that indecisive fool's habits?]

Rubbing his temples with a headache, Danzō increasingly regretted entrusting his son's education to Hiruzen.

Recalling how Hiruzen had once told him to believe in everyone in the village, Danzō ultimately dismissed the notion that his son lacked intelligence, placing all blame squarely on Hiruzen alone.

Hiruzen: Why does my back feel heavy all of a sudden?

Still, the power of belief...

Anyway, if problems arose, he as the father would handle the consequences. Might as well let him try.

Danzō decided to trust his son this once, allowing him to make contact with Akatsuki.

"Then go."

"Huh?"

Having prepared himself for one of Danzō's signature slaps after saying all that, Feng Bai was caught off guard by Danzō's calm response and instinctively looked up.

What had his father just said?

"I said, since you've decided to believe in them, go ahead and make contact."

Danzō replied irritably—why did his foolish son seem genuinely intellectually deficient?

"Dad..."

Never expecting his clumsy answer would actually gain Danzō's approval, Feng Bai was momentarily speechless.

Did this father truly love him?

Setting aside the prejudiced filter Danzō's original story role had given him, Feng Bai felt he could sense genuine paternal love from the man.

Suddenly rushing to Danzō, Feng Bai grabbed his head and hugged him fiercely, saying happily: "Thank you, Dad!"

Before Danzō could react, Feng Bai released him and bounded out of the cave.

"Hmph, no proper behavior. How will he ever achieve greatness?"

Watching Feng Bai run off, Danzō stood and brushed off his clothes with apparent disdain, but the slight upward curve of his lips betrayed his true emotions.

After controlling his expression and confirming Feng Bai had gone far enough, Danzō summoned Ding San from the cave entrance and gave him stern instructions: "Suspend contact with Hanzō and cease friction with the Iwa ninja. Take your squad and follow Feng Bai. If Akatsuki dares harm Feng Bai, notify me immediately. Understood?"

"Yes!"

Ding San accepted the order without question. Seeing Danzō had no other arrangements, he immediately used the Body Flicker Technique to depart.

"Akatsuki..."

Turning to stare intently at Akatsuki's territory on the map, Danzō drew the ninja blade from his back and stabbed down viciously—the tip sinking deep into the hard stone table: "I hope you'll treasure this opportunity. Otherwise..."

"How are you, Feng Bai? Are you all right?"

Outside the cave, Kakashi and the others—who had been under tight surveillance by Root ninja—finally saw Feng Bai and rushed forward to surround him.

"I'm fine. ANBU mission—don't ask unnecessary questions. Let's continue with our assignment."

Smiling to reassure everyone he was unharmed, Feng Bai had no intention of explaining in detail why Root ninja had gathered here. Instead, he led the group to resume their mission.
