Chapter 956 - Chapter 390: The Eagle Chosen by the Divine Conquers All

Dumbledore said, Harry truly believed.

Because Dumbledore is indeed not very keen on fame and fortune, and this is verified by history.

If he wanted to be the Minister of Magic, he probably would have risen to the position long ago.

Fudge didn't see this insight, so he's always had significant opinions about Dumbledore.

Even Ron, who doesn't have a very keen political sense, can see the problem with Fudge, but only Fudge himself doesn't understand.

Perhaps this is inevitably why he will step down.

In fact, Gellert was also not keen on power; he and Dumbledore were somewhat similar in certain ways—Gellert pursued what he saw as greater interests.

At least, that's how Gellert saw it, and his followers among the Saints thought the same.

"What about you?" Cassandra looked at Vivi, "Are you keen on power?"

"Of course." Vivi unabashedly grinned, "Power is the best beauty elixir for women. Do you remember what's written in my notebook?"

Cassandra thought about it but couldn't recall.

"A.E.I.O.U., right?" Harry suddenly said,

"The five vowel letters?" Cassandra sneered, "Riddler nonsense... very annoying."

"Aquia Electa Iovis Omnia Vincit." Vivi said, "The eagle chosen by the gods conquers all."

"Huh." Cassandra squinted, "That's truly unbridled ambition... but I must admit, Grindelwald, your ability matches your ambition... So, why do you seek power? To change the world, or what?"

"I simply like power." Vivi crossed her arms, "Don't you think a wizard like me should wield supreme power?"

"Narcissism." Cassandra pursed her lips, offering a precise description.

But Vivi didn't care about Cassandra; she just chuckled.

"Do you think Voldemort would believe what Dumbledore just said?"

Harry looked at Voldemort, finding him nodding silently and sipping his wine.

Dumbledore didn't break the silence between them but instead, with a joyful expression, awaited Voldemort to speak first.

"I've returned," Voldemort said after a moment, "perhaps later than Professor Dipet expected... but I'm back to reapply for the position he said I was too young for. I am here to ask for your permission to teach at this castle. You must know that since leaving here, I've seen much, and done much, I can teach your students things other wizards cannot."

Dumbledore studied Voldemort over his glass for a moment before speaking.

"Yes, I know since you left us you've seen much, and done much," he said calmly, "rumors of your deeds have reached your alma mater, Tom. If they are even half true, I will be very regretful."

Voldemort still remained expressionless, saying, "Greatness breeds jealousy, jealousy breeds resentment, and resentment breeds lies. You must understand that, Dumbledore."

"You call your deeds 'greatness', do you?" Dumbledore elegantly asked.

"Of course," Voldemort said, his eyes seemingly burning, "I've experimented, possibly advancing magic to an unprecedented—"

"Certain magics," Dumbledore calmly corrected him, "Certain. But in others, you are still... forgive my candor... woefully ignorant."

Voldemort laughed for the first time, a disdainful sneer, an evil expression more terrifying than rage.

"An old maxim," he said softly, "but, Dumbledore, nothing I've seen in the world verifies your famous point: love is more powerful than the magic I wield."

"Perhaps you're looking in the wrong places." Dumbledore reminded.

"Then, where else is better than here—Hogwarts—to begin my new research?" Voldemort said, "Will you let me return? Will you let me share my knowledge with your students? I offer my talents and myself to you, to be commanded..."

From this point on, Harry noticed Voldemort's subtle gestures.

He reached into his pocket, though didn't pull out his magic wand, still making some small moves.

Dumbledore seemingly didn't notice Voldemort's gestures; he continued to berate Voldemort with words.

But in truth, Voldemort didn't seem to expect to pass the hurdle with Dumbledore during this visit to Hogwarts; he had other intentions.

And this intention was very obvious.

That is, to cast a curse on the position of Professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts.

"He's really bad." Harry remarked, "He can't get what he wants, and doesn't want others to have it either. How can there be such a person?"

"That's the reason he's Voldemort, Harry." Cassandra smiled and said, "You grew up in love—though your uncle and aunt don't love you very much, you possess your parents' greatest selfless love, so you can't understand Voldemort's actions."

"Not to mention the love from a prideful young lady." Vivi teased from the side, "That young lady approached you since first year, initially just because you were a time traveler, but still ended up being..."

"Shut up!" Cassandra angrily shouted.

"I won't." Vivi playfully winked, "That prideful young lady was attracted to Scarhead Enchantress—that nickname, who coined it? It's damn fitting for Harry..."
