Moments after Shizuo walked out of the convenience store, Dai, who was leaning against the wall outside, started hurling a barrage of questions towards Shizuo.
"Wow, Shizuo, you have become quiet the catch, huh?" Dai started teasing. "Come on tell me what happened."
Shizuo stayed quiet for a few moments before taking a deep sigh. "Last week, I was being a Douch bag and I overheard her talking behind my back, that's all," Shizuo calmly explained.
"Still, you must have caught her eye if she was this apologetic," Dai deviously grinned.
"I'M TIRED OF YOUR BS," screamed Shizuo, gently hurling the bag of laundry at Dai. After they got home, Shizuo cooked breakfast and they ate together as they laughed and bantered.
Their day was filled with jokes, laughter, and unserious arguments. Before they noticed, the sun had set in and the moon was in full glow. "Man, it was a fun day, eh?" asked Dai with a soft voice.
"It sure was," replied Shizuo, putting the controller down. "Well, get your ass up, I'm not walking a grown man home," joked Shizuo.
"I hear you, I hear you," said Dai, walking to the door. "See you on Monday." "See you too," kindly replied Shizuo. As Dai closed the door behind him, Shizuo couldn't help but let out a sigh.
"I'm so tired I can barely move," he thought, as he sluggishly walked to his bedroom. Although Shizuo felt an overwhelming amount of loneliness as his bare apartment echoed his voice alone, he wasn't sad.
He kindly reminisced on the day's event. Before he dosed off, a new thought crossed his mind. "What if I live like this?" The next day was as blurry as it was uneventful. His day was filled with him staring at the screen and casually getting mad at a videogame. Before Shizuo had noticed, it was already Monday morning.
That morning, he woke up before his alarm could ring. As he opened the curtains, the soft morning sun casted its gentle rays over his face. He walked to his sink and thoroughly washed his face and brushed his teeth.
He put on his uniform and quickly headed out of his apartment. The spring wind carried the fallen petals beneath his feet.
But this time was different; he smiled and avoided stepping on the beautiful cherry petals. After Shizuo turned left at an intersection, he saw a familiar figure walking a few steps ahead of him.
"What do I do?" he started to panic. He took a deep breath before walking faster to match the pace of the person in front of him.
"H-Hey, Misaki," he said quietly. "Oh, good morning, Shizuo," replied Misaki, her reply accompanied by a warm smile. "How was your weekend?" he said, striking up a casual conversation.
While he was having small talk with Misaki, a singular thought kept circling his head. Again and again, he thought, but all the paths led to rejection. But then, he caught sight of Misaki's fair skin, her subtle confidence, and her ever so enduring warmth.
Once their small talk was over, Shizuo stood still. "Hey Misaki, would you mind if we walked to school together?"
Misaki fell silent. Moments went by without a word being shared. "It's just that I'm trying to impro—" his rambling was cut short by Misaki.
"Sure, why not… the mornings have been very lonely recently," she expressed, with an unexplainable sorrow in her eyes. She hastily looked up at Shizuo and asked.
"While we're on the topic… you're not in any clubs right, Shizuo?" "Yeah why?" he responded, struck with confusion.
Her beautiful almond-shaped eyes averted his gaze as started speaking again. "Then… would you mind if we walked home too?" Shizuo's eyes widened as he tried to process what had just happened.
He saw as all the scenarios he had meticulously constructed fall apart. He was snapped back to earth as he heard her voice again. "Umm… Shizuo, what do you say?"
"Ohh, I-I'd love to…" before he could say another word, Misaki interrupted again. "So why don't we swap numbers… I could text you when I leave?" she said flashing her cellphone.
Shizuo took a second to quietly process what she said before pulling out his phone and writing her number down. "Nice, now I can give you a heads up when I leave… you better not be late either," she said, her hands on her hips.
"Don't worry, I won't anymore," he replied with a smile
