Chapter 150: Resonance and Ruin
The world became sound and motion. The deep, grinding roar of the mountain's death throes swallowed Kaelen's shout. Dust plumed, choking and thick. Boulders the size of cottages tore free from the cliffs, crashing down around them in apocalyptic thunder.
Instinct took over. There was no forward, no back only away. The militia and Guild members scattered, diving for whatever meager cover existed shallow caves, overhangs, the lee of massive fallen slabs. Kaelen didn't think. He grabbed the poles of Elara's litter and ran, dragging her with a strength born of pure terror. Lyra was at his side, her eyes wide, not with fear, but with a frantic, calculating horror. She was mapping the avalanche in real-time, predicting collapse vectors, but the scale was too vast, the math too fast.
A shadow blotted out the dust-dimmed sun. Lyra looked up. A shelf of rock, half the cliff face, was peeling away, directly above them. They would not reach cover.
