The red eyes remained hidden in the darkness as Ira and Elara slowly climbed the glowing staircase. Every step echoed through the silent passage, making the underground world feel even larger. Although neither of them could see the figure watching them, Ira couldn't shake the strange feeling that someone was following their every move.
The staircase finally ended before an enormous stone gate. It was twice the height of the academy walls and covered with ancient golden runes that pulsed like a heartbeat. Strange blue flames burned on both sides of the entrance, lighting the room with an eerie glow. Elara stared at the gate in amazement while Ira felt an invisible force pulling him closer.
"This place..." Elara whispered.
"It's even older than the chamber we came from."
Ira nodded slowly. "And I don't think anyone has entered it for a very long time."
As soon as he stepped within a few meters of the gate, the runes burst into brilliant light. The entire chamber trembled as a loud voice echoed from every direction.
"Identity confirmed."
Ira and Elara exchanged confused looks.
"Successor of the Bound Star... welcome home."
Ira frowned.
"Successor? They're talking about me?"
Before either of them could understand what was happening, the giant stone gate began to open. A powerful wave of energy rushed out, forcing them to shield their eyes. When the light faded, an entirely different world appeared beyond the gate.
Green mountains stretched toward the sky while rivers of glowing blue water flowed peacefully through endless forests. Floating islands drifted high above the clouds, connected by bridges made of crystal. It looked more like a forgotten kingdom than a battlefield.
"It's beautiful," Elara said with a smile.
But Ira didn't smile.
His instincts told him something was wrong.
The peaceful wind suddenly stopped. The sky darkened within seconds, and black cracks spread across the clouds. A loud roar shook the land as dozens of creatures climbed out of the darkness. Some looked like giant wolves covered in black armor, while others had wings, horns, and glowing red eyes. At the center of them all stood a giant warrior holding an enormous black axe.
The warrior slowly raised his weapon and pointed it directly at Ira.
"So..." he said with a deep laugh. "The heir has finally arrived."
Ira stepped in front of Elara as blue energy gathered around his fists.
"Who are you?" he asked.
The warrior smiled.
"I am General Kael, commander of the Shadow Legion. The Void Shade has waited many years for your return."
Elara's expression became serious.
"The Void Shade..."
Kael nodded slowly.
"Your power was never meant to belong to you. It belongs to our master."
Ira clenched his fists.
"My power belongs to no one."
Kael laughed so loudly that the ground shook beneath their feet.
"Then prove it."
With one swing of his axe, the monsters behind him charged forward like a dark wave. Their roars echoed across the battlefield as they rushed toward Ira and Elara from every direction.
Elara lifted both hands, creating a wall of brilliant light that stopped the first group of wolves. The impact sent cracks across the shield, but it held. Ira dashed through the opening, striking the nearest beast with a powerful punch that sent it crashing into several others.
More monsters surrounded them.
"There are too many!" Elara shouted.
Ira looked around as dozens more continued pouring out of the cracks in the sky. If they stayed where they were, they would eventually be overwhelmed.
His bond mark suddenly began to glow.
Elara's mark answered immediately.
A warm current of energy flowed between them, making both of them stronger.
Their movements became faster, and they could sense each other's thoughts without speaking.
Elara smiled confidently.
"Our bond..."
"It's growing stronger," Ira finished.
Kael watched them with interest instead of attacking.
"So the legends were true,"
he said quietly.
"The Bound Star awakens through trust."
Ira ignored him and took a fighting stance.
"Whatever you're planning..."
"...we'll stop you together," Elara finished.
The ground exploded beneath their feet as they rushed toward the Shadow Legion.
And the battle that would decide the fate of the Bound Star had finally begun.
