Chapter 98 - Chapter 98: The Phoenix and the Fury

"What's the situation? Report the detailed findings immediately!" In the face of the emergency, Fury immediately left his two subordinates and returned to the command post.

"Super high energy readings have appeared near the solar Storm, and the magnetic field detection device is showing huge fluctuations. The temperature at the Storm's center has increased dramatically. Officer, this situation is very dangerous."

"I can see that!" Fury's face turned ashen as he stared intently at the satellite imagery. Before his eyes, an endless golden fluid began to churn wildly, intertwining with each other, desperately drilling towards the most scorching core in the center, as if possessing its own life force. And as these terrifying solar winds intertwined in such a way, a giant, fiery fireball directly formed in Earth's orbit. Its emitted light and heat were so intense that humans on the surface, tens of kilometers away, could clearly feel them. For a moment, it seemed as if there were two Suns in the sky.

"What on Earth is going on? Is Magneto responsible?" Fury asked loudly, but this time no one could answer him. All the technical personnel were stunned by the bizarre sight; this completely illogical situation made them feel as if all their knowledge had been for nothing.

"Damn it!" Fury could only wave his hand fiercely, then turned to his Deputy and ordered, "Contact Quicksilver, I need to speak with Magneto!"

"Officer! I think you should look at this first!" Cole pointed incredulously behind him, where the satellite imagery once again showed an unpredictable change. The giant fireball began to spontaneously collapse towards its center, countless golden hues converging into a single point, becoming a brilliant light impossible to look at directly with the naked eye. And in that light, a magnificent creature spread its wings.

Feathers, like countless blades, formed from the most dazzling red gold, were arranged on its body; just looking at it evoked an ineffable majesty. Its golden, glittering eyes were as dazzling as miniature Suns. Each flap of its enormous wings caused countless solar winds to swirl around its body. Three powerful talons were tucked behind it, with golden flames flowing over them.

"What is this... monster?" Fury exclaimed. That sense of majesty and power made him feel as if he were in a myth, directly looking at a Divine Beast from a myth. But in the end, he still made this definition. Myths no longer existed; for humans, anything incomprehensible could be labeled a monster. However, no one answered his question, partly because they didn't know how to answer, and partly because their minds were captivated by this beautiful and magnificent creature.

The golden Divine Bird flew in the endless Void Realm. It first circled a few times, gathering all the blazing solar Storms into its body, then suddenly dipped its head and plunged into Earth's vast atmosphere. Its speed was incredibly fast; in a mere flash of light, it completely disappeared from satellite surveillance. This speed, completely inconsistent with its massive size, astonished everyone who watched it.

"Quick, find its trace. We cannot let this creature run wild on Earth," Fury, who had recovered, ordered loudly. He clearly saw how the Divine Bird had devoured the nearly infinite solar Storm. If it appeared on Earth, he truly didn't know how it could be stopped. That was a creature condensed with the power of countless solar winds; when it appeared where it shouldn't, it would bring true destruction and ruin.

At this moment, Commander Hill suddenly spoke.

"Officer, Paris. I think it should be heading towards Paris. I believe there's a definite connection between it and Dawn Knight. If that's the case, it will definitely fly to Paris."

"Can you tell me your reason for this judgment, Commander Hill?" Fury asked. He couldn't commit strained manpower to one direction based on mere speculation; that might lead to greater losses. So he wanted to know his Deputy's reasoning; he needed this reason to convince himself.

"Intuition, Officer. This is my intuition!" Facing Fury's gaze, Commander Hill straightened up and answered calmly. However, her answer left Fury completely dissatisfied.

"Intuition, this is not a battlefield, Commander. You will have to pay for your intuition."

"I trust my intuition, Officer. And this is currently the only direction." Commander Hill never hesitated because of others' opinions, even if that formidable gaze came from a One-Eyed Dragon. Staring at his exceptionally resolute subordinate with his single eye, Fury finally gave the order.

"Point all satellites at Paris. I want to know everything happening in that city. Also, Commander Hill, you'd better hope everything happens according to your intuition, otherwise you can prepare to put your resignation letter on my desk."

"Yes, Officer!" Following Commander Hill's emotionally unchanged reply, all surveillance forces of the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division began to shift towards the city of Paris.

Meanwhile, in Paris, atop the Eiffel Tower, Magneto encountered another problem. As the perceived victor, he felt he had the right to claim the stakes of this battle, the Mutant Rogue. But clearly, someone disagreed; a woman stood in his way. For this, he could only patiently say, "Storm, you should know that your side lost this wager. As the losers, can't you just stand aside obediently and watch me take what the victor deserves?"

Ororo had clearly endured a difficult battle; her body bore many obvious scars, and her uniform was somewhat tattered. But being able to stand here indicated she had cleared all obstacles. However, at this moment, she felt no pride at all. On the contrary, guilt began to brew continuously in her heart. She frantically scanned her surroundings, almost as if she wanted to turn over every single corner. But in the end, she couldn't find what she was looking for. So she could only speak with a dry throat, in a voice completely unlike her usual one, "Where is he? Tell me, Magneto, where has he gone?"

"You mean Dawn Knight? I'm very sorry, Darling," Magneto Erik Lehnsherr lowered his eyelids slightly. "I'm afraid you won't find him anymore. He should be buried in the Sun's radiance by now. There probably isn't even a so-called body left."

"No, no..." Ororo's mind instantly reached a state close to collapse. "You're lying, you're deceiving me with lies!"

"I'm sorry, Child! This was a battle that couldn't be stopped. I admit he was a great warrior, but this is a warrior's fate. Clear the way, you can't stop me." Magneto stood in the Void Realm, answering her with a somewhat regretful tone. He had given Dawn Knight a chance, but that chance was not cherished. So naturally, someone had to pay the price, even if that price was too high to accept.

"No, Yi!" Ororo covered her face, tears streaming down her cheeks. Around her, Storms, lightning, and ice and snow surged forth, their frantic appearance fully reflecting her current state of mind: the sorrow of losing her loved one and the deep-seated pain. Magneto sighed and silently walked towards Rogue. He didn't feel he had done anything wrong, but he also didn't think Dawn Knight had done anything wrong. This was a tragic World; their positions had already destined their opposition, and in this opposition, sacrifice was always unavoidable. As an old man who had lived through a century, he had seen too many such tragedies, and his heart had long since become numb. His only goal now was to establish a perfect World that could accommodate all Mutants. He believed that in this World, such tragedies would no longer exist. At that time, all sacrifices would be acceptable. He slowly opened his palm towards Rogue. For him, this was the key to the door of a new World.

The moment he reached out, a bolt of lightning struck him. The winding electric snakes were instantly shattered by the magnetic field, and countless fragmented electric lights flickered, but it was meaningless. Following the direction of the electric light, Magneto Erik turned his gaze to Ororo.

"Don't you understand that doing this is meaningless? You have already failed, why are you still making such a move? Haven't enough sacrifices been made?" His answer was a howling Storm and even denser lightning. Ororo hovered in mid-air, the natural power transforming into wind, snow, ice, and frost, with lightning Storms reflecting around her. These terrifying forces now resembled countless drawn arrows, pointing directly at Magneto's body. And under Ororo's control, they surged forth like roaring beasts.

Pain had engulfed Ororo's heart; she now had only one thought: revenge, to avenge with the life of Magneto Erik Lehnsherr. Under this nearly insane belief, her abilities began to increase infinitely in power. The turbulent forces of these wind, frost, thunder, and Storms almost plunged the entire Eiffel Tower into an endless natural tempest, and even the nearby urban area began to be covered by this terrifying wind, frost, ice, and snow. But for Magneto, such power was not enough. Power that could not shake Earth itself was utterly incapable of touching his body. Ororo's power was indeed strong, but there was still a long way to go before it could shake Earth.

"Don't you people ever learn the price of obstructing me!" Magneto's face became ferocious; he had been completely enraged by being provoked again and again. "I am fighting for the future of Mutants. For this goal, I have sacrificed everything that can be sacrificed. Why do you people still stand in my way? Don't you know the purpose of what I'm doing? Are you truly not afraid of Death?"

He waved his hands, and countless metals transformed into sharp spears that rose from the Tower. These spears, with their fierce whistling, pierced into the sky surrounded by the Storm, quickly leaving no time for anyone to react. One after another, they finally formed a dense, crisscrossing cage, trapping Ororo in mid-air. Even when imprisoned by Magneto in this way, Ororo continued to control her power, launching futile attacks. She had completely let go of her life and Death; between love and life, she chose the former.

"I understand, Storm. Since you want to die so much, to find that deceased Knight, I will grant your wish!" Magneto closed his eyes, and the magnetic coils gathered a wild and terrifying thunderstorm. These terrifying lightning bolts were all under his control, ready to strike in the direction designated by their Master.

"Become part of this insignificant sacrifice, Storm. Your love is worthless in the face of the great cause of Mutants. Go to your Death." Countless thunderstorms converged, rushing towards the cage woven from steel spears. In the face of such terrifying lightning, everything was destined to be annihilated.
