Suddenly, Jeor looked around and realized that no one was shocked or even surprised, as if they hadn't heard the conversation between him and the wizard.
"They can't hear, it's a very useful spell." Cadmus, seeing his reaction, commented in a casual tone, as if it were nothing. Which, in his eyes, it truly wasn't. It was just a minor and insignificant spell compared to true magic.
However, in Jeor's eyes, it was an extremely useful magic, as it could prevent spies from overhearing private conversations.
"Besides the dragonglass weapons, I will send people, as well as materials to reinforce the castle and food." Cadmus said in a calm tone. Castle Black was too fragile, and if anything happened to the Wall, he wanted the castle to last at least a few months so he would have time to try to solve the problems.
Jeor looked at Cadmus and felt that the boy was giving more attention to the Night's Watch than the king himself or the Lord of House Stark, both of whom should be supporting the Night's Watch. "I thank you again, we really needed more people, weapons, to reinforce the castle, and a lot of food."
"Don't thank me, I'm only doing this to use you as a shield, all to have a little time to advance the troops if something happens to the Wall." Cadmus did not lie and spoke directly. He didn't deserve thanks, as he was doing all this to use Castle Black and the Night's Watch as shields.
Jeor didn't mind Cadmus's direct and rude words; castles were made to resist for months or years during a siege, so there was nothing wrong with Cadmus's words. Although some might not think that way.
However, seeing Cadmus's expression, Jeor shook his head and remained silent. In his eyes, Cadmus was still very young and had a soft heart that had not been hardened over the years.
"Are you done talking?" Cadmus saw Daenerys sit down next to him and ask with a happy smile; obviously, the conversation with Aemon was quite satisfactory.
"Yes, we will stay for a few days, I hope you don't mind." Cadmus held Daenerys's hand and said in a gentle tone.
"It's fine, the Night's Watch is quite interesting." Daenerys said with a smile; Aemon's presence only made things more interesting. She heard some interesting stories, especially some scandals during the reign of Maekar I Targaryen, Aemon's father.
Cadmus nodded and laughed; seeing Daenerys so happy just to meet another relative was quite satisfying. The girl might be a little crazy with other people, but for her own family, she was a true angel.
The wizard looked around and saw a fat young man eating with an elegance that only noble birth would afford. Samwell Tarly, the eldest son of Lord Randyll Tarly of Horn Hill. Honestly, he was a good boy and would make a good lord.
Unfortunately, Randyll was a terrible father; just because his son liked to study, he almost murdered his own son. He harbored a little contempt for the Lord of Horn Hill; after all, a father who doesn't take responsibility was worse than trash.
The boy, perhaps noticing his gaze, nodded with a nervous smile and lowered his head, returning to his meal.
"He might be useful..." Cadmus murmured, looking at the boy with an appreciative gaze; he needed a steward to deal with his affairs. A loyal, brave steward who liked to study was quite suitable for the role.
Cadmus shook his head and dropped the subject. Not to mention if the boy wanted to, he couldn't force Samwell to leave the Night's Watch.
Lunch continued normally, but with Cadmus and Daenerys's presence, the atmosphere was a little strange. Some looks were full of hostility towards both guests. Which was not at all surprising, since most of these people were the nobles who rebelled along with Robert Baratheon, Hoster Tully, and Jon Arryn.
So, after learning Cadmus and Daenerys's identity, it was normal for them to show so much hostility. No one would be happy to be thrown into this frozen hell for almost twenty years.
"They seem to hate me." Daenerys took Cadmus's cup of beer and took a sip of the drink, curious about the taste. The next moment, a look of disgust was reflected on her face, and she didn't touch the cup of beer again. She really preferred wine instead of such a bad drink.
"Your brother threw them into this cold place for almost twenty years; the fact that they haven't advanced against you with the intention of killing you already shows that they are quite calm." Cadmus said with a laugh.
"They chose the wrong side; it's only natural that they bear the consequences of their actions." Daenerys said with a calm look, looking at these people with a sarcastic gaze. She felt no pity for these people. Traitors are not worthy of pity.
Cadmus nodded and agreed with Daenerys's words; every action has a consequence, it was the most basic law of the universe.
After lunch, at Jeor's request, Samwell guided Cadmus and Daenerys to a room.
"Have you adapted to life in this place?" Cadmus asked the fat boy with a friendly smile.
Samwell seemed surprised that Cadmus had started the conversation, and although he was nervous, he nodded and spoke in a low tone. "I'm still getting used to it, but my brothers are not bad people."
"You probably haven't taken your vows yet; if you want, come to Harrenhal, my castle needs a chaplain." Cadmus said with a smile; he really wanted the young man as his steward, so he wouldn't have to be busy all the time.
Samwell was truly flattered by Cadmus's request; the wizard was a member of the Small Council and the king's own advisor, something he never thought he would have the luxury of seeing in his life. However, when the words were about to leave his mouth, they couldn't be pronounced.
The memory of his father's cold eyes prevented him from accepting such a good offer.
Seeing Samwell silent, Cadmus just laughed and didn't force it. He felt that if he showed some magic and knowledge, the young man would leave this trauma behind and come to work for him.
"I'm a good boss; you'll receive a hundred gold dragons a month." Cadmus said with a joking tone, making Daenerys roll her eyes and find her fiancé's offer incredibly good. Not to mention a hundred gold dragons, even a Silver Stag was enough to help a family of three live well for a month.
In Samwell's eyes, the enormous amount simply showed how rich the wizard was; he was really tempted to accept. Even the fear of his father didn't stop him from being tempted by such benefits.
However, he still hesitated and looked nervously at Cadmus; he didn't dare to look at the princess beside him. He had never seen such a beautiful girl before; she looked like an angel the Septon spoke of, just being near her made him feel extremely nervous.
Cadmus noticed this and just smiled and regretted that the boy had never experienced the pleasure of a woman. Thinking about it, he discovered a way to corrupt this naive young man. What is the best way to make a young man gain confidence? Sleeping with a woman!
Letting out an evil laugh, Cadmus felt that he was truly a good boss. What boss would give a dozen prostitutes to an employee to have fun all night? He doubted there was a better boss than him in this world...
Wait... Rhaegar really gave him his sister, a kingdom, and even intends to give him a daughter... Cadmus felt that Rhaegar was truly the best boss!
"Stop laughing, you look like a villain." Daenerys commented with a laugh. She didn't know what was going on in her fiancé's mind, but she felt it wasn't a good thing, especially after seeing the malicious smile on his lips.
Cadmus pretended to cough and regained his calm and deep expression, as if the deplorable expression he had just made hadn't happened.
Without knowing that he would have the best night of his life, Samwell led Cadmus and Daenerys to the largest room in the place, where only important nobles and the royal family used when staying some time at Castle Black. As far as he knew, even the Good Queen (Alysanne I Targaryen) slept in that room.
"Have a good afternoon, My Lord, Princess." Samwell bowed and left the room with slightly hurried steps.
