That night,
Under the cold, pale moon
Three men walked shoulder-to-shoulder down the dimly lit road.
These three were none other than
Gabriel, Kuishan, and Momochi Zabuza the trio of Mist-nin who had become Qianye's "recruited missing-nin."
"Konoha really deserves its reputation as the leading village of the Five Great Shinobi Nations. The sake here is unbelievably smooth, and the women… tch, absolutely top-notch."
"Quack quack~ Let's sneak out and drink again tomorrow night!"
Kuishan was clearly drunk.
The strong stench of alcohol filled the air around him as he staggered unsteadily,
and with both thick arms he clung tightly onto Gabriel and Zabuza, swaying like a giant, intoxicated tree.
Gabriel looked helpless.
Zabuza, with his perpetually cold face, was doing everything he could not to slice off Kuishan's hands with the silent killing technique.
"That brat set rules for us before," Gabriel muttered.
"He said we're not allowed to leave the Uchiha district without permission."
"Aren't you afraid Qianye's going to catch us?"
Gabriel's concern was legitimate.
"Brother!" Kuishan snorted, slurring.
"We're missing-nin of our villages!"
"Have you ever seen missing-nin who follow rules honestly and obediently?"
"I've been cooped up in that district for over a month. If I stay any longer, I swear moss will start growing on my body."
"Going out once in a while to take a breath how is that too much?"
"And that little brat has probably gone to sleep already. No way he'd find us at this hour."
"So put your heart back in your stomach and relax."
Kuishan waved his hand dismissively, alcohol practically dripping from his words.
"Holy!!"
"Look ahead! I think we really have been discovered!"
Gabriel suddenly froze, eyes widening in shock as he stared toward the road ahead.
Kuishan rolled his eyes.
"Are you a child? Trying to scare me with this? Do you think I'm actually afraid of"
Gabriel didn't speak.
He only stared forward like he had seen a ghost.
Seeing this,
Kuishan's heart suddenly tightened.
He very slowly raised his eyes…
In the distance, under a flickering street lamp,
a lone figure stood silentlyarms folded.
The figure was slender, youthful, and unmistakably familiar.
It looked exactly like Qianye.
And considering this path led directly toward the Uchiha district…
Kuishan's scalp went numb instantly.
He almost knelt on the spot.
Damn it, he cursed internally.
He really was a crow's mouth!
Just moments ago, he boldly said they could sneak out tonight and absolutely wouldn't be discovered by Qianye.
He even reassured Gabriel to "put his heart back in his stomach."
And in the very next second
Reality slapped them in the face.
Retribution came a little too fast this time!
At this moment, the figure standing under the street lamp had already begun walking toward them.
Kuishan was just about to force a smile and say a few conciliatory words when he suddenly sensed something subtle in the ground his expression changed instantly!
Without hesitation, he grabbed Gabriel's arm and leapt upward.
The next second
Bang! Bang!
Several sharp earthen spikes
Doton: Moguragakure no Arashi–style earth lances shot out violently from the ground!
Had any of the three hesitated even half a second,
their bodies would've been skewered into hedgehogs.
After landing, the three turned sharply.
On the opposite side of the road, two burly figures were approaching steadily from the darkness.
One of them clicked his tongue impatiently.
"Tch. A little closer and we would've nailed them."
It turned out that while Kuishan and the others were distracted by the thin figure ahead,
the two attackers had taken the opportunity to launch a surprise strike.
Now, combined with the thin figure in front,
the three Root operatives had completely surrounded Gabriel, Kuishan, and Zabuza.
"You're not that little brat…
so who the hell are you?"
Kuishan narrowed his eyes at the thin silhouette, murderous intent pouring out like cold mist.
In front of students, he was a sometimes comical teacher but people often forgot his other identity:
A Tōnin missing-nin,
listed as extremely dangerous on multiple villages' wanted lists,
known for his mastery of violent Earth Release.
And now, besides himself,
there were two other assassins present.
"Simply put," the thin figure said calmly as he stepped out from beneath the flickering lamp,
"I'm the one who came to kill you."
The moment Kuishan saw the person's face clearly, he froze in shock.
"Wang Tu?! What are you doing here?!"
"What? You two know each other?" Gabriel asked, startled.
"She's my sister!" Kuishan replied immediately.
Then added with a guilty expression,
"Ever since I became a missing-nin, she was left behind in the village alone…"
Because of that,
seeing his younger sister appear here
in Konoha, of all places
was beyond shocking for him.
But at this moment
The operative pretending to be a Root member, "Wang Tu," was internally screaming:
???
What was happening?!
This information was WAY too much!
So the man in front of her was actually the brother of this Tōnin "spy"?
And not just a spy
but a Tōnin missing-nin?!
What made things even worse
This Tōnin missing-nin had been working as a teacher
for the Uchiha clan's brand-new academy?!
Did the Uchiha know about this?
Or worse
had the Uchiha secretly colluded with a Tōnin missing-nin
to plan some sort of conspiracy inside Konoha?
From her training under Danzo, she knew one thing:
If this was true, Lord Danzo needed to know. Immediately.
Which meant
The three in front of her…
could NOT be killed right now.
If she killed them,
and Danzo later interrogated the Uchiha and got nothing,
she'd never be able to prove a conspiracy existed.
Thinking quickly,
she signaled subtly to the two Root partners behind her, then said aloud:
"My current identity is that of an undercover spy, collecting intel inside Konoha."
Zabuza tightened his grip on his Kubikiribōchō, voice icy.
"Then why did you attack us?"
"Wang Tu" forced her voice to remain calm.
"I thought you three were drunk and careless.
I planned to capture you quietly and extract information."
She paused, then continued,
"Brother, my identity is extremely sensitive.
I can't explain too much.
I should leave for now.
Take care."
She and the two Root ninja turned to go
But suddenly
Doton: Doryūheki!
RUMBLE!!!
A thick earth wall shot up from the ground,
blocking their retreat.
"Wang Tu" froze.
Then slowly turned back.
And saw Kuishan's face darken.
"Sister," he said coldly,
"when did your natural stutter suddenly disappear?
And ever since I became a missing-nin,
you never called me 'brother' even once."
"Wang Tu's" face turned pale.
She realized instantly
She had slipped.
She'd been exposed.
