Chapter 83: The Unexpected Megatron
"Master Megatron, our advanced reconnaissance team has sent another report: they were just attacked by an Autobot force led by Starscream! It even appears they've built a space station to store all kinds of supplies!"
Well then. Perhaps due to Starscream's absence, the Decepticon Air Force Commander had temporarily been replaced by that fool Noisy. Unfortunately, this so-called commander seemed to possess no real skill beyond exaggerating reports and boasting about false intelligence.
"Ignore the nonsense from those idiots no doubt it's Optimus Prime bluffing. But these Autobots are already at their limit; they can't do much damage! What we need to do now is reach that mysterious planet, seize all its resources, and every secret it hides shall belong to me Megatron!"
Though Megatron despised Optimus Prime, he knew catching him wouldn't be easy. Besides, those two troublemakers, Dinobot Salas and Scorponok, were constantly stirring up chaos. So rather than waste time on such trivialities, why not pay a visit to his elusive subordinate, Starscream, who had been wandering around the Milky Way? That treacherous jet must have discovered something extraordinary on the planet known as Hunger otherwise, he wouldn't be so reluctant to leave.
"Congratulations, Megatron, on finding such a magnificent world! Although we haven't visited it ourselves, our remote observation systems confirm that the planet's core is remarkably active possibly containing tens of millions of times more energy than that primitive substance called oil. If we can obtain its core, Cybertron could regain its ancient vitality!"
It seemed the Decepticons had already decided the planet's fate long before arriving. Such was the true nature of power in the universe: unless someone could stop them, any weak civilization discovered would inevitably be conquered and enslaved.
And the most chilling part Megatron was utterly reckless. He didn't even trust his supposedly most loyal subordinate, Starscream. Without a word, he uploaded the planet's coordinates and immediately set off in that direction.
Still, Megatron was the leader of the Decepticons. He would never travel unprepared. In fact, his arrogance was immense bringing only the AllSpark with him to Hunger, intending to transform all organic life there into cold, mechanical beings.
"Soundwave, issue my command: unless I say otherwise, none of you are to interfere with my game. That planet will become Megatron's playground!"
It appeared this Decepticon leader held himself in very high regard. If only he knew the true secret that planet concealed, he would certainly regret his decision.
But as the saying goes, ignorance is bliss. At least until he encountered real trouble, Megatron had no concept of fear.
"Understood, Master. We will follow from a distance. According to the plan, we will deploy more than 300 Decepticon warriors throughout the galaxy ready to respond to your command at any time!"
Gazing at the confident Megatron, Soundwave replied in his usual monotone. The fire of ambition within him was far from extinguished; after all, Cybertron was on the brink of revival, and Soundwave and his comrades would be both its creators and its witnesses.
Time meant little to the Decepticons millions or even tens of millions of years were merely a few cycles of renewal to them. For instance, the actual distance between Cybertron and that planet was at least several days of travel but only with perfectly precise navigation.
Without exact planetary coordinates, even with Transformer technology, it could take hundreds or even thousands of years to locate such a speck of dust in the vast universe. That was one reason the Fallen himself had managed to reach that world a millennium ago.
"Starscream, my dear little friend your big brother has come to visit! I hope you haven't been treating that planet like one of your toys… or I might just turn you into one!"
Once all preparations were complete, Megatron leapt into his personal shuttle. It was a narrow craft, yet several times faster than the standard bulky starships. A ruthless perfectionist, Megatron demanded the best from himself this meant reaching the planet as quickly as possible.
"My lord, based on rough calculations, you will reach the planet's atmosphere in approximately a week and a half. Our escort team, so as not to disturb your 'game,' will depart again in three days. These are the landing coordinates for all deployed soldiers. When you call for us, our brave warriors will respond immediately!"
Soundwave's precision was extraordinary. Having such capable and loyal subordinates was undoubtedly key to Megatron's supremacy though this arrogant giant likely hadn't realized just how much he depended on them.
"Excellent, Soundwave! You've done a remarkable job. I may have given you a lower rank than Starscream in name, but know this you are my true second-in-command. During my absence from Cybertron, I leave the Decepticons under your full command. If that fool Sachs or that Dinobot Salas cause any trouble, make sure to teach them a lesson!"
Megatron seemed quite disillusioned with Cybertron itself. The mechanical planet, drained of energy, remained a prize coveted by many factions. At times, Megatron even regretted having stolen it from the Autobots in the first place.
Had it not been for that endless war, Cybertron's energy reserves might have lasted for hundreds or even thousands of years more.
Still, some things were better done sooner than later lest the Decepticons grow restless. Especially someone like Megatron.
